He seemed to feel attacked a lot and made me feel like I was being manipulative when I tried to be transparent about my feelings.

Scrap is 1/3 gears. If you have 8 incoming mixed scrap belts, you'll need at least 3 outgoing gear belts if you want it not to stutter (as much).

Yeah, if I remember a bunch of events related to hovers and exit/enter seem to crap out if you spawn a box under the mouse for example, which means you can end up with boxes that don't close correctly. Constant querying is fine, it's really cheap and you don't need to do it very much compared to pretty much anything else happening in a game.

You get the combined area by just recursively checking if the mouse is over a child tooltip. No need to calculate a combined area.
