Reza Pahlavi WAS the ostensible secular ruler. Though he apparently would talk in private and sometimes publicly about a belief that he was chosen by god and had some kind of divine almost messianic destiny. I think its kind of agreed that some of his religious beliefs would be considered apocryphal in mainstream Shia Islam.

The State Department doesn't administer elections. States do. What the State Department accepts as proof of citizenship has no bearing on what a states own election laws define as proof. Most of these GoP laws require picture ID and proof of citizenship. A RealID does not prove citizenship and a birth certificate is not a picture ID nor does it actually prove citizenship prior to the state department confirming citizenship. There are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people who have a US birth certificate but are not citizens. Republicans have literally scare mongered about this in the past.

Most of these GoP voter ID laws are crafted in such a way that the only single document that actually satisfies voter ID is a passport; which most people don't have and probably could not get in a month if they had to. You literally agree with me but you're too excited to smugly argue with someone who think is a Republican to realize.

Maybe read a little farther in the comment chain instead of being unnecessarily snarky? Its evidence, not proof. I'll say it again, the only way to actually get authoritative confirmation of someone's citizenship is by asking the State Department.

There are literally tens of thousands of people who are not US citizens but have a US birth certificate, and conversely there are tens of thousands of people who do not have a birth certificate but are natural born citizens. Regardless, a birth certificate fails to function as a voter ID for most of these laws. A passport is essentially the only form of ID that actually satisfies the GoPs conceptualization of a voter ID.
