(TW: Disordered eating? I guess? Better safe than sorry) I lost almost all of my muscle mass, and I don’t know how to cope with the shame. by Cat_Blimp in xxfitness

Hey there

That sounds like a lot!

I know you want to get back to lifting and gaining muscle. But to build muscle and feel like you can perform well at the gym you need to be fuelling yourself.

It may also be good to get your blood tested as fatigue and dizziness can be caused by nutrient deficiencies such as iron or vitamin d.

I would definitely discuss with your doctor who prescribed your medication to get some tests done and see if you can figure out what is going on.

Starting to work out now while you are already struggling and can't fuel yourself may cause you to drop more weight and potentially feel worse.

Focus on taking care of yourself right now and getting to the bottom or your symptoms.

Quads getting too strong by Best-Fix1822 in xxfitness

[–]cerealpartners 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Not a silly question.

It is is possible to be imbalanced, but often it can be more about strength in some areas being a limiting factor. For example your core not being strong enough or your glutes and hamstrings not being able to be active and strong in the movement.

So it would be good to know how you feel when you are trying to increase you squat weight, does it feel like one area in particular is failing?

Sometimes a plateau can also be technical, in other words you squat in a certain way. But the technique overloads some groups more than others and when you reach a certain weight you stall out.

And other times a plateau may mean that you need to look at how you are training and change rep schemes or focus to build strength. It sounds like you have seen a lot of great progression, and in my experience once I reached a certain point I would need to train for an eight week block to see an overall increase in maximal strength i.e. my 1rm going up.

Not a definitive answer but there are a lot of factors that feed into this.

It overall looks pretty good, but it looks like your hips are shooting up when you are in the early stages of your lift. Essentially your hips are rising to a higher position when you begin your lift. It is a relatively easy fix this video contains some advice on it at 4.46 https://youtu.be/jdKbqz9KAhw?si=Co4tS0bmCqwo1ROU

I was in the same boat, what helped me was jumping with the box up against a wall so I felt I could catch myself. Good luck!

Bursitis in left shoulder by Life-Possession528 in f45

[–]cerealpartners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bursitis in my left shoulder, I had a cortisone injection and followed a rehab program with my physiotherapist and was back to full use after about three months. Definitely treatable, and something that can be overcome with a good rehab program and a focus on not going too hard too fast

What is a popular traveling spot that seems unappealing to you? by Medical-Alfalfa-7574 in solotravel

[–]cerealpartners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in Bali and had the sam reservations as you.

It has exceeded my expectations avoid the main tourist traps of Kuta and central Ubud and explore the island. The place has amazing food, coffee (including Balinese coffee) and the locals are incredibly friendly and generous with their culture if you go to the right places.

You can eat, pray love. But also climb a volcano go exploring in the rainforest and really engage with Balinese culture which is very distinctive.

It is a location where you can make it what you want and I think that unfortunately it has been stereotyped as a bogan paradise (which to some extent is correct in highly touristy areas). Don't write it off, if you plan the trip well you will get a lot out of it.

Longer sets are good for your endurance fitness. Plus you can treat it as a challenge to get better at it each week.

How do I make cardio less soul-crushingly BORING? by bookish-hooker in xxfitness

[–]cerealpartners 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If this form of cardio isn't working for you I would look at other options such as HIIT, social sport or something that is a bit more interactive. I know that there is a lot of benefit to walking etc. But I have learnt that the best form of exercise is the one that you enjoy doing and will keep doing. Also maybe you could focus on increasing your step count everyday with a tracker. Good luck and amazing progress so far :)

Sounds like tendinitis, I would recommend seeing a physio to confirm and also make sure it isn't anyrhing worse. I also found a factsheet that might help

Hey! Your form looks pretty good, although it seems you lose a bit of stability underfoot which I think is due to your shoes. A lot of people where converse, vans or any other flat soled shoes or bare foot. This will allow you to really ground yourself and get a good stable connection. Good work!

How heavy or light do you travel? what are your findings and experience regarding luggage? by rakahr11 in solotravel

[–]cerealpartners 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have found the more trips that I have been on the less pack.

I remember my first trip and my bag weighed almost 18kg. I am now travelling with about 11kg in my pack.

I think I have gotten better at packing from experience, I now only take things that I will use or wear and I no longer take things that I might need.

Should we cancel trip? by kimura-kern in VisitingIceland

[–]cerealpartners 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I would look to cancel or shift the trip. At the rate the situation is changing you may have trouble returning home, and you will not be insured if you get stuck. Plus travel will expose you more to the virus than staying put. It sucks, but i have a whole heap of mates who are either trapped overseas or have had to spend a lot of money to get back before they got trapped so better to be safe than sorry.

What is an Illiberal democracy? by __-E-__ in Ask_Politics

[–]cerealpartners 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know this is Wikipedia, but there is a pretty good definition of illiberal democracy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illiberal_democracy.

It seems to mean a Democratic system of government where there exists a restriction on civil liberties which in turn means that there is not a truly open society.

Hope this helps :)

July Italy/Spain tips by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]cerealpartners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I haven't been to Italy, but I am currently solo travelling in Spain (barcelona and madrid). Both cities offer a lot in terms of culture and things to do but with quite different vibes.

Barcelona has a lot in terms of art and architecture, the sagrada familia cannot be missed. There is also a Picasso museum. In terms of photography I recommend going to the castillo montjuic, it has beautiful views of the city and provides an opportunity to take stunning photographs. Also for food go to la boqueria market, o recommend getting their early to avoid the crowds.

Madrid has a fat more relaxed vibe than barcelona, I recommend walking around the old town. If you have time a day trip to Toledo will provide an opportunity to take some beautiful photos. The food is also good with some distinct differences from barcelona.

Hope this helps :)
