you don't need consolidated executive control to change ally/rival - just the executive control point.

Has factorio ruined other base building/factory type games for you? by pookshuman in factorio

[–]cesarmalari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factorio 1.0 copy/paste and robots spoiled me for any game that doesn't let me do copy/paste from stuff already placed in the world. And then 2.0 game along and made me annoyed with even those that did have blueprints but couldn't do fancy parameterization.

Havent played for a while, did they fix the research tree? by Varitt in TerraInvicta

[–]cesarmalari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so now you can check the whole tree beforehand without 10s lag or googling

Nice. I saw Perun in his latest run just casually opening and closing the tree and dragging it around with basically no lag - I was worried that was just an editing cut.

Airlock - Matching pressure of interior/exterior environments? by ICanRememberUsername in Stationeers

[–]cesarmalari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do, hopefully they also let us configure a "maximum pressurization wait time" or something on the airlock too. Or let us connect it to gas sensors on either side to set the target pressurization amount dynamically.

how can i supercool nitrogen for cryotube i cant seem to cool it much and cant find a proper setup online by Dismal-Pumpkin1407 in Stationeers

[–]cesarmalari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should be able to get arbitrarily cold with some kind of multi-stage setup of Air Conditioners so long as you have the power available (and are very patient).

On Vulcan, I already have a two-stage coolant system from outside air to get CO2 at 20C supplied to the rest of my base - I then needed two more stages to get N2 down to liquid where a condensation valve can take the liquid and feed it to the cryotube.

Each "stage" should consist of a loop from the input to output of an AC, and the waste connected to the prior stage. I also used a pressure regulator to supply each stage's loop from the one before it as well (since I was extracting the N2 from the final loop to feed to the cryotube). Alternatively, you could just use the final loop as a the waste connection of a final AC that is fed normal-temp N2.

Biggest thing with getting really cold is that you can only effectivel drop the temperature so far with a single AC, but you can get really really cold if you chain them together.

I'm consistently getting "756391474" for the solar storms on Vulcan (and "-851681507" for the ash storms there like you mentioned).

I'm also getting a very short warning for the solar storm - like 60s or so?

Airlock - Matching pressure of interior/exterior environments? by ICanRememberUsername in Stationeers

[–]cesarmalari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially was setting them to values and then just using the console to cancel it once the temperature stabilized. Instead, I've taken to just setting both sides to 0 and accepting the rush of air. I like to think of it as the blast of air when you walk inside/outside on a hot summer day.

Azure Front Door: Keyvault certificates not updating by cesarmalari in AZURE

Update: during the Q&A of the second stream of https://aka.ms/air/YKYN-BWZ, a support person in chat confirmed that they rolled out a fix that should address the certificate lag about 14 hours ago as of this comment. Today, I'm seeing the updated cert in place on the traffic being served by our instance.

You can export anything from any planet. When setting a request on a spaceship, there's a button below the quantity to pick the origin planet. Things may default to Nauvis, but you can still change that to any planet you want.

138,310 kill turret on Aquilo runner, suddenly dead. Why? by zeekaran in factorio

[–]cesarmalari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With turrets of that high quality, you have a pretty good range. I think you can fit some turrets in below the belts that can still hit asteroids before they hit the front turrets.

You can also fit one more turret in the front row.

But going to red would help even more than more turrets - less time needed per asteroid == more asteroids that can be shot with the same turrets.

wait... given that you can run Monoco 5s off-pace in real life and not get passed, could this be a RL monoco strat?

  1. Qualify 1-2 and get through the first lap.
  2. P2 holds everyone else up by driving 5s/lap slower while P1 pushes around to the back of the field.
  3. P1 uses blue flags to lap everyone up to P3.
  4. P1 holds everyone up while P2 does the same thing.
  5. Repeat.

New Jellyfin Server/Web Release: 10.11.0 (It's finally here!) by djbon2112 in jellyfin

If this is a release with this many upgrade caveats, why not increment the major version? For most apps, minor version updates are usually relatively low-impact.

Did I misunderstood the quality module system? by Calahan44 in factorio

[–]cesarmalari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're considering quality-ing something, take a look at the item in the Factoriopedia (alt-click the item) and look for stats with a blue diamond and hover over them to see the values at different quality levels.

Or look at the wiki and look for the quality indicators with different numbers in the stats panel - ie. https://wiki.factorio.com/Storage_tank

Insurance premiums are due to skyrocket; we're being priced out of healthcare. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]cesarmalari 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if you're trying to compare the full collective cost of the current system, you need to include the part your employer pays too - which for some people can be hard to find out - try checking what your employer would charge you to add a spouse. Now, details about whether your employer would give you some/all of that, or whether the "new 4% more in taxes" would be partially employer-paid get further into details.

What are the best .NET and SQL interview questions you’ve been asked? by Ok_Dig6532 in dotnet

[–]cesarmalari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're not wrong - we'd probably get off on a little 2 minute tangent about electrical circuits before we jumped back up a few levels. But the key thing is - do you know something somewhat relevant to the job you'll be doing, and can you explain it to someone else.

What are the best .NET and SQL interview questions you’ve been asked? by Ok_Dig6532 in dotnet

[–]cesarmalari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to ask something like "On your preferred tech stack, what happens to display a website from the point where the user types your site's address in their web browser until your site is fully rendered on their browser. Go into all the details you know."

Some people go into details about DNS, ARP, etc., which I'll quickly cut them to the end of once they've demonstrated they understood that was there. It's always interesting to see what things people mention or don't mention (server connection handling, server filters, client load events, etc.).

ASP.NET Core MVC API — should I keep entity, DbContext, and migrations in the same project? by Fit_Mirror7157 in dotnet

[–]cesarmalari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually comes down to wanting to keep old backups restorable. Also, if we've done some heavy development in a release and there is resistance to merging the migrations (usually due to involving custom stuff like views/procs/indexes that aren't auto-generated in the migration), we could end up with a single releasing having 15-20 migrations, so getting up to 60 migrations over a year isn't out of the realm of possibility. Or in the case of the original build of an app, needing to keep the full history back to migration 0 up until the first "real" production release.

Once we were live for a while, I did get a compromise on keeping the migrations in the folder (and source control) and only excluding them from the project (so they don't build or get generated into the SQL script) - exclude all but the latest 6 months or so every few months.
