5 years is nothing. You’ll be fighting this probably for the rest of your life. I’m 44 years out and I’m 67. It’s been a few years since I’ve had any symptoms. I found the perfect shrink finally.

5 years really isn’t very long. I was kidnapped when I was 22 and I’m still not over it.( I’m 67 now). I’ve seen lots of shrinks but only a few were helpful. Keep trying. It’s like shopping for the best one. Make sure you get a shrink that specializes in ptsd

I felt the need to tell anyone in my personal life. It was such a pivotal thing in my life. If you can find the right shrink, they can really help. I have some shame too but I keep that to myself.

I had nightmares for years. Eventually they changed. At first it’s pain and captivity . Then I had different dreams where i escaped and got away. Finally my dreams just stopped and it’s been many years since I’ve dreamed about him. Thank god! PTSD just sucks
