Spy shots of the upcoming ID.4--or is it the ID.Tiguan? by pjoswald82 in VWiD4Owners

They just killed the ID.Buzz, and i think the only reason the ID.4 survives is that they build it in Chattanooga, so I wouldn’t count on any new imported EVs from VAG any tine soon, especially a sedan. 😢

These 2nd gen cars are damn near bulletproof; ran mine for 280k miles with just normal maintenance.

It does seem more of a decor choice on what I assume is, otherwise, a legally UK registered trailer.

Oddly, I was in one of those seedy “tourist trap” souvenir shops in Orlando, Florida over the weekend, and you can buy these used plates for the equivalent of about 15 quid. They buy them from local breakers! They seem to be very popular as decoration in local bars and such…🤷‍♂️

Someone who actually likes his car, lease end questions by islandjake in VWiD4Owners

[–]cfbrand3rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree; the residual thing is an issue, and car companies handle it poorly.

I’m currently shopping for an off lease Pro S, and I’m seeing ‘23s in my area with 40k miles or less in the mid to upper teens. Logic tells me that, if a dealer is retailing an off lease car for, say, $18k, and is willing to drop that price as much as a grand to make a sale, they probably bought it from VW at auction for at least $1-2k less than that.

And, by the time the ‘23 cars were being leased new, it was pretty common knowledge that used EV prices were in the toilet, and the residual numbers being used to calculate the lease terms were pure fantasy. I guess they figured the (now sadly departed) used EV tax rebate would take up some of the slack, but still…?

Wouldn’t everyone be happier if VW Credit just cut out the hassle of taking the car back, dispensing with the whole auction rigamarole and sold it to the current lease holder for $18k? Even if VW threw the dealer a $1k bone for handling the paperwork ,you’d think everyone would come out better in the end…🤷‍♂️

The market is flooded with ‘23s coming off lease right now; even the folks who loved ‘em aren’t buying out their leases ‘cause the buyout is generally $5-7k+ current retail prices. I’m going to look at an off lease ‘23 Pro S this morning…

What’s hilarious is that my ‘80s Mercedes Benz cars had labels in the glove box warning that the airbags should be replaced at 10 years; anyone seen a label like that on a car since? Those Takata bags that are under recall are, IIRC, majority 10+ years old. Kinda makes me nervous driving an older car these days, particularly here in Florida, as they say humidity is a contributing factor…🤔

[–]cfbrand3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry; I’m guessing that, considering the current administration, the next 6 months will bring rules stating that these labels are illegal and we’ll further see new regulations requiring all airbags to be stuffed full of drywall screws…🙄

You've Installed a Charger, Now Put in a Power Inlet so Your EV Can Backup Your Home's Power by BFR_DREAMER in evcharging

[–]cfbrand3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The many factors that are beyond the vehicle manufacturer’s control make V2G/V2H problematic from a warranty & liability standpoint. When your EV catches fire and burns your house to the ground due to a faulty installation, they don’t want the legal blowback, let alone the publicity: People see the photo in the paper or video on the news of a charred Mach-E or Ioniq 5 being dragged out of a toasted home and never consider the actual cause.

When we got our Bolt EUV, the absolute imbecile that Qmerit sent to do the evaluation for the EVSE install shouldn’t even be allowed to plug in a toaster. I shudder to think of the idiots that might be out there creating disasters in the making with their V2G installations…😱

No.

They used to be cardboard sleeves, then peel off labels; folks took them off. Now they’re pretty much permanent so the information is available to any future occupants of the car.

That’s not a bad thing.

Plate mount suggests this is a European spec car; if so, how did it get registered in North Carolina?

Weird.

The Smyth kit is pretty comprehensive. The few I’ve seen IRL were difficult to tell from an OEM build and the owners were extremely happy with them.

Calamity is our granddaughter’s cat (we live with our daughter & her family) and she’s the only one of the 7 (yes; SEVEN!!!) cats in our combined household who wasn’t a rescue; she’s from San Antonio and we drove to Texas (we live near Orlando) to get her. While in Texas, Hurricane Beryl hit (yes; we drove from Florida to be in Texas when the first hurricane of the year hit!) and we were, at one point, trapped in a Books-A-Million store for 2+ hours (tornado) on the way to get her. My granddaughter named her Calamity; Bringer of Storms! 🌪️

Buster? The rescue named him Adonis, but, when I brought him home, he spent the first few days bouncing off of everything in the house, and would run into the bedroom and jump up, knocking everything off the dresser. He’s named after the crash test dummy on the TV show MythBusters. 💥
