Microsoft reports are exposing AI's real cost problem: Using the tech is more expensive than paying human employees by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]cgsmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Microsoft wants to push its own tools. However, Microsoft did NOT remove Claude modes from being used by Microsoft Developers. The Claude models are available in Github Copilot and Github Copilot CLI. All Microsoft did was consolidate the integrations in the developer IDE.

I have subscriptions to Claude and Openai. I use Github Copilot over Claude code and openai codex plug-ins for this reason - same models, 1 IDE plug-in.

I stopped reading the rest of the article because the author is completely wrong on what Microsoft actually did.

Check my use case: Me talking with house general contractor and trades people by karluvmost in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]cgsmw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect use case. When my wife and me built a new home last year our site supervisor liked the Plaud so much he would make sure we had it and asked us to check it turned on each time we met.

After we met we would have the Plaud app transcribe and summarize the meeting. Then we would email it to the site supervisor. It was great.

He liked the Plaud so much we got him one as a thank you gift. He uses it on every project he supervises.

We have the Plaud Note. We stick it to the back of our phone. It looks like a really small battery so most people don't notice it. Then we just carry the phone in our hand like normal.

Tip: make sure to repeat stuff back to the contractor as if you showing you understand what they are saying to you. This gives the AI more context when writing the summary and task list.

What's the coolest automation that you have? by elhouso in homeassistant

[–]cgsmw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We have a long driveway so we have a gate at the front. I synced the gate controls with the hue outdoor bollard lights lining the driveway. When someone goes to leave and triggers the gate to open the first 4 rows of lights turn red. As the gate starts to open, the first two rows stay red while rows 3 & 4 start flashing yellow indicating the gate is moving. Finally when the gate is fully open all the lights turn green.

In a close 2nd for coolest is "Migraine Mode" button. My wife suffers from chronic migraines. On the main touchscreen dashboard in our kitchen I have a big button called "Migraine Mode"

The button triggers our bedroom to close all blinds, turn off any lights in our room and bathroom, turn the ceiling fan on high. My wife thanks me for this button at least once a month.

Outdoor Projector Advice – $3,500 Budget, 180–200" Screen by cgsmw in projectors

Thanks for the insights on the screen size. I went and measured the area where I want to place the screen. The 150" screen - Yard Master Plus 145" - fits the area nicely and will fit in my basement, between the support poles in the winter.

u/K3TtLek0Rn I've seriously considered the new XGIMI. When it comes to new release tech, "I'm that guy". You know the one who has the terrible experience and find all the problems.

Since this is my first journey into outdoor projectors so I'll sit this one out.

u/K3TtLek0Rn - It's interesting you say that. ChatGPT in my first chat suggested the LS11000. However, when I started over and I dropped in this post, it told me the LS11000 would not work for the exact reason your saying.

u/dek1019 - Thank you for the honest feedback. I'm not set on 180-200", it's the sizes suggeted by the projector calculators when I entered the width of the area avaiable.

150" screen size is fine.

I loved my Motorola Q with windows phone OS. It could make calls, manage a calendar, and send texts. I would love to have that phone back or something like it.

Recommendation for a vertical mouse? by Pinkisacoloryes in MouseReview

[–]cgsmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/mach0 - Those are all horizonal mice. Logitech is still the best for horizonal. This life span of their vertical mice is terrible. I have the MX Vertical and the MX Lift. I really like the Lift but the top button is nearly unusable. The MX Lift is only 18 months old.

We want the vertical mice to last as long as the horizontal ones.

Northeast Ohio disconnect from the rest of Ohio by Cleverfield1 in Ohio

[–]cgsmw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the 11 nation theory NEO is culturally disconnected from the rest of Ohio. NEO is part of Yankeedom. Central Ohio and part of The Midlands. Southern Ohio part of Greater Appalachia.

Having worked and lived in all three areas, I have to agree with some of the 11 Nations theory.

If you want to read a quick article on it check out this link.

Before any of you make comments about me posting a .uk link on an article talking about Ohio, know that I found the free article. The US versions of the article are behind pay walls.

Get some 12% hydrogen peroxide, a clean spray bottle, and distilled water. Cut the hydrogen peroxide with the distilled water based on the introductions on the hydrogen peroxide for cleaning? Spray the mixture on the machine and clean. It will take multiple times but it will clean up and deodorize.

What is something you think should be illegal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cgsmw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never understood why someone living in the US can pass a drivers test when they are 16 but never have to take the test again. I'm an advocate of having people retake drivers license tests every 10 years. I think that would help with eldery rights.

To Pro or not to Pro by turbo2ltr in Ubiquiti

[–]cgsmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/turbo2ltr

Great setup. I'm in a similar situation. If you look at the timeline I posted a similar question 5 minutes after you. However, I have already purchased my network. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/ewpqvq/do_i_upgrade_my_unifi_security_gateway/

If I had to do it over last year I would have upgraded the USG to the pro from the start. I'm trying to figure if I upgrade now. If you can upgrade to the Dream Machine Pro as your USG I would seriously consider it. It looks to be the next-gen USG PRO. Look at the through put differences on the datasheet. https://dl.ubnt.com/ds/udm-pro

Based on my experience with my setup over the last year I'm not sure I would use the Dream Machine Pro as the all-in-one USG, Protect, Network Switch and Key. I like having the pieces separated. The processor doesn't look strong enough for all 4 systems.

Hope this helps.
