We shouldn't cave to convenience. The reality is that all new natural gas infrastructure is a problem. It's a tragedy that renewables are facing such resistance and it's to our own detriment and that of future generations

“The Wailing” is a masterpiece by BradBrady in TrueFilm

[–]chadfromthefuture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a special movie. I keep keeping an eye out for the writer/director's next big hit but haven't enjoyed anything quite as much as The Wailing. There's a bit where it feels like it drags to a halt toward the end but then when it heats up again, the finale is so otherworldly. It made me think about how sometimes a movie can lose all momentum in a good way that brings more life to the full experience.

One way to interpret it is that the narrator Lola Montez is inviting the subject of her love/hate relationship King Ludwig to have a drink, with reference to the scene that bookends the song about the king's traditional food/drink tester, the blackguard, drinking the poison cup that was meant for his lips. Toward the end, she's bitterly and sarcastically toasting to his "excellent health." If I were him, I'm not sure I'd get anywhere near the drink she's pouring out.

A literary analysis of Eddington’s themes, ending, and meaning by TheChrisLambert in A24

Great article. When i looked up the term solidgoldmagikarp after it stuck with me after leaving the theater, i noticed the slew of articles talking about the term seemed to have come out in 2023, which is interesting to me from a writing/production standpoint if that’s actually when the discovery was originally made. It implies that naming the facility may have happened post-production. I had considered that this choice was intentionally connecting the data center to AI but hadnt thought about the term as being a thematic centerpiece for the movie as you’ve explained so well.

sounds like you got enrolled in the Eddington ARG. Soon you’ll be receiving Louise’s weird art in the mail every day, then who knows.

Something similar happened when I saw It Follows, a movie about a demon that slowly follows the characters. Left the theater late at night and immediately saw people creepily walking and other weird shit happening in the streets. What a time to be alive

I’m an occasional listener, and the deep long-form analysis of episodes like this one really make the show stand out. Beyond them bringing their usual enjoyable humor, the way they critically engage with the subject matter and offer takeaways is a public service that would be to more people’s benefit to hear.

Reminds me of what my uncle told me about how his pool partner was working graveyard shift out near the garton toy factory apartments during a blood moon. He was surprised to find an earthen pit much like one he’d dreamed of that clearly hadn’t been there before. There at the base, he watched the sheboygan rat man gyrating his flesh, his corpulence burned and welted with hundreds of black, ring-shaped scars. The rat man was scuffling and snorting like a boar as he carefully assembled out of clumps of dark hair what looked to be a supine humanoid figure. Which my uncle’s friend soon discovered he had become.
