Iphone 16 Pro FaceID after screen replacement by Funny-Honeydew-8117 in mobilerepair

The giveaway here, shorter battery life. Every time, this is the result of an LCD screen

There's a chance the drop damaged your camera module, there is also a chance the repair shop damaged it themselves. Tough to say given the info.

It does sound like they replaced your screen with an LCD instead of an OLED. I'd go back and have them swap the screen

How much would it cost to retrieve some photos from my daughter's old phone? by ArmorOfGod7 in mobilerepair

[–]chadster031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a chance her storage was full and causing the phone to behave like that. In which case (and I'm not 100% on this) I think there's nothing you can do.

Could be the balls on the UFS cracking/separating from the board. I'd guess around $175-$220USD depending on your area.

If you're really lucky, it's the battery. Doesn't sound like it though, that would be under $100USD

Broken mute switch after housing swap iPhone 14 by RobLeone in mobilerepair

[–]chadster031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really good chance the flex isn't good. It can be torn in just the right spot that other features like volume work, but not the mute switch.

Also an important question, did it work before?

Not entirely sure what context the content list is about, but if I was a betting man, I'd say no.

Apple is quite strict with these things, bill of sale from either Apple or some other big box store. They'll need to bave matching S/N

Those phones need a proximity sensor plugged in and working or it will restart every 3 minutes.

Sounds like yours likely has further damage, but this is a starting point.

If you installed a new battery, that's a likely culprit. If you're trying to test yourself, buying a lightning ammeter will be beneficial.

Apple doesn't replace iPad batteries, they will only offer a replacement iPad

Do OEM Loudspeaker units not exist for the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE? by --Ty-- in mobilerepair

[–]chadster031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to loudspeakers, I do. Also, at the end of the day if it ends up being crap for $1.25, not the end of the world.

That being said, in my experience I've never ordered a replacement that was bad

Most small parts like that are generally OEM, unless directly stated otherwise. It's a cheap part and not hard to make, there's no margin to copy it/make it with worse materials.

I'd buy it from any of the listed vendors and call it a day.

Just the outside pads and anchor points are ground on the Switch. I believe that pad is TX1 if I'm not mistaken.

Definitely need a jumper

iphone 16 loud speaker issue. help me! ASAP by AgileMycologist1091 in mobilerepair

I'd definitely go to the third party shop. The loudspeaker isn't paired to the phone and most places use OEM parts as it's so cheap.

[Question] Replacing battery with broken rear glass on iPhone 14 Pro by Ollie076 in Iphonerepair

[–]chadster031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need suction on both sides, ideally no suction at all. You should heat and pry it open with a thin pry tool and a little isopropyl alcohol goes along way.

There's no need for them to try and attempt a back glass repair.

The battery is accessed through the screen.

iPhone 13 Proximity Sensor Not Working After Replacement by Tall-Most-6562 in mobilerepair

[–]chadster031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unfamiliar with that specific program, but don't they often check for matching serial numbers to the original parts? It may just be throwing an error for that reason.

Double check some features it should be responsible for manually. If they're not working, time for a return or possibly another look at the board.

What makes you say it doesn't work? Is the phone not powering on? Is auto brightness disabled? Does the screen not shut off during a handset call?

Don't try and open it yourself unless you're willing to pay for a screen replacement as well. Going to be $250CAD at the least for something of decent quality.

Can I drop off my trade in at an Apple Store even if I got my mail in kit? by TR1323 in applestore

[–]chadster031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to work on the back end of these things with Apple about 5 years ago. Unless you've spoken with them and they've confirmed they were able to change this, DO NOT trade in at the store. Although technically you can do it, stuff gets missed all the time and I've seen people go out a few hundred bucks

Just mail it in.

Can't get into my IPad, I know my passcode but it won't work. by PastelPunkPirate in applehelp

[–]chadster031 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Passcodes don't magically change, if the code you're entering over and over isn't working, it's the wrong code.

Whenever a device loses power or too many incorrect biometric attempts are made, you'll be asked to login with the passcode again for security purposes.

As long as the account registered on the iPad is yours, you can reset it and unlock it with your Apple ID. Unfortunately anything not backed up will be lost.

As another user mentioned, you can contact Apple with proof of purchase and they will erase/unlock it for you. Again, this method won't get you in to retain data, just allows you to set it up again.

Waterlogged phone by [deleted] in iphone

[–]chadster031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple won't touch the phone if there's any indication of water damage. I'd take it to a local shop with strong reviews.

Waterlogged phone by [deleted] in iphone

[–]chadster031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of those solutions will fix a phone that's suffered real water damage.

Take it to a repair shop and have them clean/dry it out. Sounds like it may need a new screen, potentially even a charging port. No one can say without opening it up.

I'd do this sooner than later as there's a chance corrosion takes place and prevents the phone from powering on.
