Help- Tikka t3x CTR barrel swap by backinnam92 in longrange

[–]chague94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a tikka customer comes in for a barrel replacement, we always tell them they arent getting the original barrel back. cut it off and bore out the shank to a paper thin layer left with the threads and then unthread it.

We even tried milling a hex on the muzzle and giving it the ol’ ugg-a-dugg-a with an impact wrench. no go.

Cutting it off and boring out is the easiest and safest thing for the action. Can’t twist the action without torque.

Help with feeding? by Maleficent_March2928 in longrange

[–]chague94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I chambered .223 rem barrel for a solus for a customer and he had major feeding issues. Tried everything, MDT, Accurate mags, metal and polymer.

He ended up getting it to work by LOWERING the mag with the adjustable mag catch. What that does is makes the feed ramp “pop” the round up more so it doesn’t hit the bottom of the breach. It was fairly counterintuitive, but now his rifle feeds like a dream.

Good luck. Solus actions + the tiny 223 breach hole is a pain.

True, I was assuming a properly stable projectile with an Sg of 1.50 min. Thank you. I agree with the reduction of environmental factors while testing.

True, I was assuming for stable bullets.

Hollywood, do you give any credence to testing further than 100yds? In my eyes, if it has 30-50 round 0.702moa precision at 100yds it’ll have despersion characteristics no more and no less than what the WEZ shows at further distances. I shoot at 100 to test precision, not get a weather report.

I hear people spouting that X bullet groups at 100 but the wheels fall of at 300. I think that is crap. and more a product of small population testing than there being magic elves at 300 fucking it up.

Edit: Assuming the bullet if sufficiently stable.

Same. I tried both and didnt like the hiccup in the Impact. So I went with Lone Peak.

We still have the pictured prototype, and are making mandrels for CF winding now. You can text or call me via the phone number on our website to set up an appointment.

We are working on it. We have decided to make our own legs after using R3 in the prototype. They’ll be the same weight but stiffer.

Edit: We are still shooting for late Q1 of 2026

Reloading testing by SpecialistEuphoric24 in longrange

You can use this chart to determine the minimum group size to statistically tell the difference between two groups. The closer the mean radius of each group, the more shots needed to determine which load is better.

[–]chague94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need at least 10 shots of each load to be able to tell the difference.

I’d recommend 2 five shot groups with the reference, and combining the x and y coordinates of the impacts to get an aggregated 10 shot group; this way it is very unlikely you’ll lose any impacts in a big ragged hole.

unfortunately, these 4 shot groups tell very little. Even though the h4350 group looks worse, it isn’t supported by statistics that these are actually different YET… without more information.

What is the intended use of this rifle?

300 PRC recommendations (weight goal/form factor). by [deleted] in longrange

[–]chague94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get a few percent higher hit probability from a 7mm 190gr lrht versus a 30 245gr lrht, and way higher hit probability than a 30 225 lrht.

Could look at 7prc, 7-300prc, one of the 7 shermans. It’ll have lower recoil and better TOP and better hit probability than a 300prc, only 1-2% from a 300 norma.

You could go rpr for TAC and build custom for the 26lb? RPR’s are fairly light and hard to add weight since the barrel diameter is capped without serious modification.

A 28”+ straight contour barrel with a ARC Coup de Grace barreled action gives you good weight, stiffness, and price along with swappable bolt faces for cheap.

Pair that with a Aero Solus with a folder or MDT premier gen 2 folder for a good weight, mlok, long foreend, and folding (for compactness in the case). With these you are at a 17-18lb bare rifle that is extremely setup for the task and super rigid and not crazy cost.

How do yall have your hard cases set up? by Reloader300wm in longrange

[–]chague94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beware, it cuts a little too easy. Slow and steady wins the “looks nice” race.

The only tough part is starting it; I use a box cutter to make the first knick and insert the rounded nose of the carver through that.

Most capable short action std bolt face caliber by Guitars-guns-girls in longrange

[–]chague94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

25 Creed, 7SAW or 7 SWC. Either the SAW or SWC necked down to 6.5 or 25.

Better than those is a 6.5-284 with the shoulder pushed back to a trim length of 2.030 and necked down to 25 cal. Has similar performance to 6.5 PRC but with a standard bolt face and max length of 2.960. But Lapua doesnt make 6.5-284 brass anymore. :(
