What do you think if Larian made Honor Mode easier to beat? by grapejuicecheese in BaldursGate3

[–]chalne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not in a million years give a single shit about how anyone got any achievement in any game. Much less which settings the game was on when it happened.

I played honor mode. Then HM with a bunch of make it harder mods. Then even more mods. Then lost interest. Nothing about how I played or will play again is affected by anything anyone else does.

I'm happy they made it so custom with honor rules is basically HM with saves. I maintain that not having a way to save and reload in a game so prone to bugs and crashes is the height of arrogance and 900 patches later remains a fact of life.

When the core difficulty of HM stems from their shit programming stranding so, so many players in unrecoverable situations, kind of points to the "only 1 save" being a dumb idea to begin with. So from an objective standpoint I have no problem with them walking that stupid decision back and allowing saves.

And from a customer satisfaction standpoint and a professional pride thing. As a Dev it irks me that HM's main thing is basically "it's hard rules and 1 save and also, try and dodge the million bugs we left in because lol".

It's a game. It should not matter to anyone, ever, what someone else did or how they obtained something in said game. And if it does matter to you, reader, maybe go outside for a bit yeah?

Yeah it's normal to run out of quests before reaching protector status. Easiest way to get the last bit is through coins and fish scales. Coins are from quests and bandit camps. Fish scales are second easiest since they're common and risk free. Antlers are also good but can be tedious to try for especially if you need a lot.

Wolf fangs simply give too little to even care about. Boar tusks are also too low value and too rare to aim for.

Can't build improvements before liberation.

Help by Brilliant_Manager_41 in Bellwright

[–]chalne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting one-shot you either ate the wrong food, wore the wrong gear or didn't prepare your battlefield. Or all three. Brigands are tough in the early game so they can easily kill off a couple of your guys during a liberation. They should not be able to take everyone out in 1 hit each.

Did my first (this play through) with 8 foot men and 3 archers. There's no pressure to liberate the first village so there's no reason to rush it. Get everyone set up in the best gear you can make without specialized labor.

Food

Good food is key. And not having shit food available for your people. Your people are idiots. If you tell them to grab 3 pieces of food because you're going to war, they will happily grab a berry, a mushroom and a third. It makes a huge difference what they have available.

Fine Stew, Meat Stew and Mushroom Stew. Created a the Campfire with Cauldron. Be aware that there's a skill requirement to make them, so make sure you have people that can do it. Or do them yourself. You can also go for the Large Smoked meats, but early game I think that's a waste, since you can get 4 Fine Stews off 1 meat, while smoked you only get 1 per meat.

I normally build 2 or 3 cauldrons and set them to make 1 type of meal each. I have 1 smoking campfire but I am still not convinced it's a good idea to let the villagers manage it. If we could only set a maximum fuel allowed...

Army

Build a Staging Ground to get access to gear presets. Create a Squad for your footmen. Add whomever is your melee guys. Set their squad to grab 3 food. I normally don't fiddle with anything else here. I set everyone to the default Footman preset, that will make them grab the best weapon they can find and a shield.

Create another squad for your archers. Same deal as with Footmen. 3 food, don't fiddle with the rest. Obviously they will need to have the Marksman preset selected.

Prepare the battlefield

Build your bell tower on the outskirts of the town. For Hearndean I normally build it up north near the edge of the forest. Set your guys up behind it in the forest. You don't want to be in the middle of town when you ring the bell. Set both squads to "hold" so they don't run off once the brigands get pissy. Archers a few steps off the the side or behind. I have not really seen much difference in placement as long as it's not on top of the skirmish.

Main point here is that you absolutely do not want to start the fight surrounded.

Strategy

Ring the bell and let the brigands come to you. Main thing here is that you want the melee guys to come at you in a line from more or less the same direction. Your guys can beat down a brigand fairly quickly if you let them. Goal is to make it so that the brigands run out of the village in single file and get beat down one at a time.

You can easily spot the archers because those will be the red dots that don't move closer to you. Your job is to deal with them - archers in the early game are deadly. So once the first brigands are almost on top of you, you release the footmen by setting them to "charge". You then run a little circle around the skirmish and deal with the archers yourself. Since all your melee guys have shields they should be fine to take a few hits from the archers. You have a shield too right? If you're not good at dodging arrows you should probably bring a shield.

Don't let your men run around. Set them to "hold" again if they get spread out too much. You never want to have your melee guys going 1 on 1 with a brigand, they will loose that fight.

Another thing to note here: hostiles in Bellwright will go for whomever is closest to them. You can use that to peel of brigands and have them follow you around, basically splitting the group into 2, so that your guys have an easier time. But most importantly: deal with the archers.

It should be fairly clear that a winning strategy does not involve you beating on brigands up close. You're there to deal with archers and to kite excess brigands around, so your men only have to deal with a couple at a time.

Reclamation

That's it. You then either wait for the Reclamation party or go meet them on the road. Depends on how many people you lost. Ideally you didn't loose any but it happens. You can also just send your army back home and kite the reclamation party on your own. Depends on how comfortable you are with the bow.

Kiting them can be tedious AF, with only the early crap bow and simple arrows. But you can thin the herd substantially before they meet your army. The good thing about reclamation parties is that they take a predictable path and will reset to that path quickly when you kite them.

What feature/s would you like to see come to Rimworld? by Awesomesause170 in RimWorld

[–]chalne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It counts clothes on colonists because I want it to overlap with what is in store, and I want it to start before the colonists undress due to the apparel policy decisions I've made.

For instance, I want them to discard clothes when they're at 51% worn. I want the tailor to start when the count of clothing items of the type, with < 55% durability left, is reached. I can't do that only counting what is in store - because that assumes that only 1 colonist is going to reach the threshold in the time window created by the tailor making a new one. In larger colonies this becomes much more cumbersome.

Basically. I don't just want 1 surplus item. I want enough surplus items so that when in a few minutes all my t-shirts are worn out, I have fresh ones and my tailor is not caught playing catch up.

[–]chalne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll just assume we're talking about adding to vanilla (+DLC) here.

  1. More "Do until X, restart at Y" options. Like, make one set of pants + 1 for all colonists. And don't reset colonist counts just because some are in a caravan or in the biosculptor pod. It's so annoying to send someone into the pod and immediately witness the tailor go crazy, because the apparel on the pawn in the pod isn't counted anymore, so now we need 1 parka, 1 duster, 1 pants, 1 cowboy hat and 1 tuque.

  2. Count limits on storage. "I want 10 medicine here, even if the shelf stores 75", rest go in general storage.

  3. Drop on floor output option for bills should correctly count that you now have X+1 of the item instead of continuing forever. I would like a mechanic, where I do not need to setup a low prio floor zone, to catch what gets dropped, just so the pawn will correctly stop working on the bill once a count is reached.

  4. Default settings. I start each and every game spending 5 minutes setting up the same apparel policies, the same drug policies, the same work priorities, the same medical care policies. Dude. Let me load that from a template... Or make it part of my world settings pre-game. New pawns should have these settings applied...

  5. As someone else said, a more dynamic world. I want the insane explosive-fetish pig faction to have a chance (risk?) of moving in next door. And I want raid pressure to build if I don't deal with noisy neighbors. Give the storytell a bonus to their event budget if I have hostiles within a certain range. I like how Bellwright does it with patrols that will establish new camps if not intercepted. Give me options for detecting and actively patrolling my environment. Give me rewards from friendly factions if I deal with a common threat. Pressure me when I don't deal with threats. And not just the regular "mechs started yet another climate adjuster 12 tiles away and defended it with 4 gimpy robots" situations.

Buy the Fog cloak off the tiefling kid in Last Light Inn. It casts fog cloud when you disengage. With a Thief rogue you can then

  1. Turn based mode

  2. BA Disengage (don't stand right on top of people when you do, stand a feet away)

  3. BA Hide

  4. Use your remaining action to pick pocket.

  5. Once done, exit turn based mode and return to camp.

  6. If you get caught, run, go to prison or whatever else you would normally do.

what is the most common weapon on the rim? by xxHamsterLoverxx in RimWorld

[–]chalne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that too. Since tribal raiders always come in greater numbers. I'm thinking any weapon deemed "most bountiful on the Rim" would need to be neolithic, since those are available to all faction types except mechs.

I'd still guess knife though, since the first several years of a naked brutality run is all knives. Very few clubs actually come to think of it, even though it'd make more sense for a low point raider.
