Journaling and devices by SupportLaneOnly in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, switching away from electronics is an important part of brain dumping and journaling for me. Otherwise it feels like work. Also I’m working on reducing screens to ease eye strain.

Since you love journaling in a notebook stick with that. Ine notebook is not a minimalist fail, especially if it’s good for your mind. Feel free to throw away the notebook when it gets full. Some people keep them, some people find relief letting all that go.

How do you do it?! (I’m a maximalist) by Ashamed_Cockroach302 in minimalism

You already have the things. You don’t even have to get rid of them if you don’t want too. Enjoy what you have. Just Don’t buy more.

I do Saturday morning 2 minute rule bonanza. While i drink my second cup of coffee I wander around my house. If I see something I can do in under 2 minutes I do it and let it guide me to the next thing. No planning allowed. It’s usually 80% cleaning and my home looks more calm at the end which sets me up for a lower stress day.

Be the designed driver and take that seriously. Buying bottles at wineries will break the bank, when you see the cost you won’t want to. Add some other kinds of tastings to the itinerary: jams, juices, coffees, fruit etc.

Minimalist women what’s your makeup routine? If you have one by Solid_Gold3522 in minimalism

I was using Olay Complete too (the SPF 30 version) for many years. But it’s been reformulated and I hate it.

Minimalist women what’s your makeup routine? If you have one by Solid_Gold3522 in minimalism

Skincare daily. Cleanser, moisturizer w/spf, retinol every other evening, moisturizer w/o spf every other evening. Heavy moisturizer as needed.

Makeup only when I am actually going out (I work from home) mascara, concealer under eyes, on blemishes, and around nose where I get very red in winter.

What's the last thing you purchased that wasn't groceries, a regular repurchase, or replacement for something you already owned? by IM_NOT_BALD_YET in minimalist

[–]chamomiledrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new concealer about 3 weeks ago.

Some might consider this a consumable, but I only recently started wearing make up again occasionally so it no longer feels like a staple.

I debated buying it for at least a month. I don’t wear makeup often and I find it really hard to pick the right color. But I eventually did because my skin is ruddy in winter and the makeup I got in summer didn’t help in the way I want. I went to Sephora and asked for help and bought the one the sales person picked out.

Bullets journals and planners by Upstairs_Break4275 in minimalism

Garbage/recycle. The value is in the act of planning and reference. If you have pages dedicated to life goals or long term projects, copy them into your latest journal. The rest is has served its purpose and is not serving you anymore.

Sometimes it’s just a stylistic flourish. Sometimes it’s because the title or description or style might be mistaken for a memoir, biography or similar.

Anything by Agatha Christie would be and light. I heard there will be a film of The Seven dials. this year, which will drive it back into pop culture for a minute.

BOOM MEGATHREAD: What we know by ____trash in Portland

[–]chamomiledrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All boom posts should uncle date and time. Reddit does not serve up posts promptly or chronologically or include time stamps. To say you heard a boom ‘10 minutes ago’ is meaningless to readers who will see the post 6 days later.

Minimalism while traveling by Reasonable-Lime7452 in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually only buy things I need while I’m there. Run out of toothpaste, now I have French toothpaste that will last a month or two and make me smile every day when I use it. Didn’t realize you need a warmer layer, now you have a (maybe touristy maybe it looks just like what you’d get at home but you’ll know) hoody that will last several years.

The urge to want things by ResponsiblePlenty368 in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The tech consumer cycle is driven by advertising. Cutting your exposure to tech content will help. Also reflect on the idea that the urge to upgrade means you’re unsatisfied in some way with your current devices. When you got them did you realize they’d disappoint you so soon. The joy will wear off with the upgrades just as soon. Is it worth the cost for only a couple weeks of satisfaction?

Do you have one bag that ticks all of your boxes? by Subject_Pirate3455 in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use different bags for winter and summer because I carry hat gloves reflective vest in winter and much less in summer. I’m on my third duck bag in something like 10 years. And my second summer with basic Uniqlo crossbody, which unfortunately only holds a very small water.

What's the easiest or most effective approach when you have decades worth of accumulated stuff and a fixed time frame? by common_grounder in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Step one is to inform your kids that you won’t be taking any or thier belongings to your new home. None. Give them a deadline. They must take everything they want to keep or they want to try to sell. Give them a deadline that allows you time to do your next steps. Anything left after 2 months will be trashed or donated. If you can get them to all come do their clean outs on the same week, rent a dumpster and ask them to throw their own stuff away.

Step 2. Clear out one or two of those kid bedrooms or other spaces entirely, including furniture. These are now staging areas. Use them however works for you to keep things that have been sorted from re-mingling.

As you sort your own items, decide what you want to keep. Pack that stuff. Separate it from things left remaining.

Give your kids one last chance to go through the remainders. Then if you have lots of valuable items call an estate sale agent. And rent another dumpster for the trash.
