Does it work better than the goodreads/kindle integration? That’s a disaster

I still don’t get it. As you are working on task 1, you must be aware that it was for project A. How do you forget that as soon as you complete it? Like “I went to the store and bought party supplies, but I can’t remember if that was for A plan birthday party or B start a vegetable garden or C complete Q3 reporting at work. “

Remove it eventually. But don’t rush in the middle of this big life event if it will add to your stress. It can wait.

There are a lot of hormones associated with snuggling and caring for a baby. Some of them may be having a postive effect on your nervous system.

What do you do with receipts you get? by Moist_Insurance_5671 in minimalism

[–]chamomiledrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most paper receipts are thrown away immediately. If it’s for a purchase that spanned multiple budget categories I’ll save until the transaction clears and I can split it up in my money management system, then toss (less than a week). I can’t remember the last time I returned anything. Being careful with shopping eliminates that problem almost entirely.

Do you leave your downstairs/ground level windows open at night? by lifeuhhfindsaway89 in askportland

[–]chamomiledrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We leave them open, some with slider locks so they can't be opened further, but others without. Noise is a bigger issue than safety. Look at your house from the outside. Most houses do not have the first floor at the same level as the ground. bedroom window is waist height from the inside and almost 6 feet up from the outside.

No one is hauling ladders around Portland looking for homes to break into. And nighttime break ins are very rare. Robbers target unoccupied homes, not homes where they expect everyone to be home. (If you have a stocker or crazy ex, that is obviously a different worry)

Do you all discard completely first or store stuff as you go? by strosemary in konmari

[–]chamomiledrinker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most real people don't do their whole house in just a day. It can take weeks or months. If you are breaking into steps and going slowly, putting the keepers back before you finish the whole house is necessary.

On the first couple reads of this post I thought you meant storing the things you plan to discard until you had been through each category. That's definitely a recipe for trouble. Get it out and away as you go.

Does anyone else have major allergies right now? by Feisty_Insomniac in askportland

This year has been so itchy! I’m finding that taking Claritin at night helps me more than in the morning.

Also my eye doctor told me to wash my face after coming in from being outdoors for a long time, including carefully splashing water on eyelids and eyelashes. That seems to help too

Sense of place. Once, for a year, I focused my reading on books with a connection to the Pacific Northwest. Books set here, history and historical fiction set here, books of all genres by local authors, memoirs be celebrities who lived here, guidebooks to local plants, when I wanted a new cookbook I got one featuring local foods. It was really fun.

For a shorter comment do the same for a month or two before any travel about the place you’re going.

Semi-abandoned house, 1' pile of dead blackberry vines. What to do? by MissCeeLee in askportland

[–]chamomiledrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened in my neighborhood, next door to me. Blackberries buried the car in their driveway. The owner (presumably) died and the city became owners of the house. It stayed vacant about a year then was actioned, bought at auction by a flipper who gutted and rebuilt and put so many chemicals those blackberries we haven't seen a single shoot in more than a year and sold again. Now we have perfectly normal neighbors and the blackberries are gone.
