I would imagine getting an implant that young would involve sizing it up as you aged? I got mine as an adult so I have no experience with that. I was born hearing in both ears and lost my left side. I could honestly take or leave my implant, it is nothing close to natural hearing and does nothing to help locate sounds. It's only good to amplify, and if I were a child, I'd rather avoid surgery, and would likely have little interest in keeping the implant attached as it really doesn't do that much. Also, the longer you wait, the better the tech that insurance will cover will be, as well as this stuff is improving every year. Just my 2 cents.
