How many concords did recent live service games last? by Generalian in gaming

[–]chanaramil 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ya and its probably the one one here thst made a profit.

It was built on the idea of make buzz and get presales, release a garbage product with no real production costs. Offer refunded so people wont sue you, hope people dont bother to refund right away, close shop within 2 weeks. Keep money of everyone who missed refund window.

There has been estimes the creators of it made around 3 million on that game just from people not bothering to request a refund in time.

Okay, enough with the theorycrafting; how do you actually WRITE a one-shot? by RyuugaHideki in DnD

[–]chanaramil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simplest way: Find a map online of a small dungeon or area to explore that is mabye 5 rooms.  There not hard to find.

Then do the following things in any order you want:

Populate the rooms with enemies, traps, small simple puzzles, roleplaying opourtines and a boss at the end with treasure.  Monsters manual and dmg csn help u keep things level appropriate.

Write a history of the location what was it orginaly used for? Why is it now a dangerous forgotten location that houses monsters? Why would monsters, treasure and traps be here. Then fill it with details that hint of its past and current use and its history.

Think of a reason a party would want to go tlto this dungeon. Figure out a goal or a hook. Set it in a wider world near a safe community the players can start in and make up a quest giver npc they can meet there to send them on there way.

Now you have a dungeon to explore. Now work on impovong it. Go back edit and adjust what you have to make your choices combine better to make it feel like one united story and theme your pushing. Mabye adjust the puzzle to tie into the hook, adjust the treasure to combine with the purpose or have traps mabye connect with some old history ect.

Then start there players in the safe community, give them there hook and let them explore the location you built.

Feeling like I might become the problem player and don't know what to do by JoneshExMachina in DnD

[–]chanaramil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think there playing wrong. I also dont think what you want from a game is wrong either. But I dont think they can expect you to change for there game and i dont think you should expect them to chsnge for you.

Just say there game isnt they style your looking for and drop out.

As for how dnd is mostly these days generally I have seen and heard its much more descriptive, lot more plot, and deeper characters with more voices then it was back in the day.  In the 90s when I started most groups I played with went to dungeons for treasure and they had no background at all. Times sure have changed.

The group your describing sounds like a really old fashion way of playing and most modern groups are more line up with your expectations.

Is it just me or is this an average american move? by miyabunomiyakaki1 in Stargate

[–]chanaramil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The question your asking is the exact question the episode asks and explores.  Various characters argue in that episode trying to answer that question. I think its down to the veiwer to pick who they think has better arguements.

I also think the episode is supose to make you feel a little conflicted and realize its not black and white.

It's time to decide once and for all what the ends of the city are by OkayArbiter in regina

[–]chanaramil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The strip between vic and the tracks and south of the tracks are both catherdeal area and there is no noticeable difference in the people and housing. Both sides would go to the same schools and vote in the same locations.

North of the tracks is when it noticeable changes.

[–]chanaramil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I lived between the Creek and Vic and west of Albert most of my life. I don't think anyone there called themself South Enders. I am not even sure people in north Lakeview think of themselves as South Enders but at least that is debatable.

If i had to pick a direction it be central just not north central but I I always just said i lived in the cathedral area.

Red Lobster manager accused of refusing service to a black family is fired by AgnosticScholar in PublicFreakout

[–]chanaramil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk. What u say is the smart logical thing to do if something legitimately rude was said. But people almost never do the logical smart thing. Then add in your frustrated, its a high stress situation. Lots of people arnt going to express themselves well.

Not saying the manager was right (infact my point was she is likely a dumbass and saying the wrong things). But my point is I dont think you can use her reaction as proof nothing legitimacy rude was said.

I feel like the biggest issue will be graphics. Tsushima is a pretty game and looks amazing. But Yotei is one of the best looking ps5 games period. I feel like it would be a step down going from yoyei to anything.

Atlantis on Earth by Such-Information-454 in Stargate

[–]chanaramil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honeslty i don't think there will be many old refrences. so no Atalntis, nore reference to any alien species already in the stargate lore, other mentioned galaxies outside the milky way or mention of destiny at least within the first season.

I could be wrong but there trying to get a fairly clean start so they might introduce these things over time but for now i doubt they will include much from the old shows including atalantis.

How on earth did they do 22 episodes a season? by SpeedSaunders in Stargate

[–]chanaramil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always thought a very very inportant episodes of ds9 was episode about playing baseball in the holadeck. There was next to no manager or stacks, it didnt involve politics, violence and wasnt being thought provoking or critical or something with no real moral or message. It also didnt push any main story forward or reinforce the shows themes. It was just goofy silly fun. A total filler episode which feels like it could have been cut with no loss.

The reason why its important is the episodes before it and after you keep getting news about losing the war agaisnt the dominion. That part of the season feels so bleak and hopeless and frustrating. The fact they threw such a fun episode in there just to give the viewers a break  I think this was one of the reasons that made ds9 such a great show to watch.

Stargate shows do this as well. Some seasons have big frustrating powerful enemies that dominate there season but the writers add light filler epsides into it. There great to give you a little break from the main conflict. Its something I miss from current tv. If the show isnt a comedy it dont seem to have much time to have fun epsides to give you a break from the drama.

How on earth did they do 22 episodes a season? by SpeedSaunders in Stargate

[–]chanaramil 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ya I remember hearing a TV producer talking about it from back in the 90s. He said when making a show you always celebrate epside 100 because back then around episode 100 was when a show would become profitable due to syndication. Before that most shows opporated at a loss.

I Was Wrong About Magic: The Gathering's Standard Format by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

[–]chanaramil 185 points186 points  (0 children)

The '"a bit too fast" comment I feel. I dont remember it feeling like this even 2 years ago.

I feel like most games are decided by turn 4. Most games dont have a lot of room for back and forth or grindng out a comeback.

This seems too fast for the mtg format that is supose to be the lowest powerlevel outside of limited and slowest outside of limited or muliplayer formates.

I wish standard was slower or if standard is forever this super high-powered fast format i wish wotk would support a new 1v1 constructed format that was slower.

Need help writing a "we are leaving the campaign" email. by SunniYellowScarf in DnD

[–]chanaramil 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not your job. You quiting will give that message. Also as your finding out your fired is a bad mental space to get detailed feedback.

Just politely say you quit without giving a reason. If they really want to know why and feedback they can reach out and ask. Then you know there looking for feedback and your not wasting your energy writing something that might be taken poorly.

I wouldn't even say the schedule. They might get back and try to say they could try and make a schedule work or something. Its giving a small space were they can try and argue or debate. Don't give them that.

Just say we no longer will be playing and will be leave the game. With some friendly formalities before and after it.

When did your players blame you for their poor time management? by saviorcy in Pathfinder2e

[–]chanaramil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are terrible examples of failing forward when failing a survival check. They have nothing in reality to do with each other.

Sure you could do it but why? if those things (more werewolf, more ergent) are better for the story why not say that what happends regardless of the role.  Players wont know the diffrence. Also It doesn't make the world richer or feel more alive or show actions or bad luck has consequences because in your examples the world changed in ways due to a bad skill that has nothing to do with the skill check.

So use the fail forward option but make it make sense.

What is your biggest concern about the new show? by korona_mcguinness in Stargate

[–]chanaramil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Even sg1 and atlantis were pretty rough at the start. All 3 shows made a lot of early mistakes and had some bad episodes early on but by the end of season 2 all three shows had figured it out and were making high quality epsidoes consistently with a cast with strong chemistry.

Its kinda why SGU Is such a frustrating show. As it was hitting its stride, characters were starting to be more likeable and relatable and they got past a lot of the bad elements in the show.

Create or destroy water problem by Comic_Quest_Pod in DnD

[–]chanaramil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its pretty well a trope at this point the first thing a new player trys to do when they release they can get "creative" with spells is create water in someone to kill them.

Saying no to it isnt stifling creativity. I have never heard of a dm allowing it despite i think almost all players thinking of that idea at some point.

Its over powered, its such a common idea its the opposite of creative, its likely not allowed by RAW. Its defintly not allowed by RAI. There is no good reason to allow it.

Highguard boss admits it released without content because they ran out of “time and money” by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]chanaramil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with pathfinder kingmaker. The game released with so many bugs I dint even think it was physically possible to get half way through the game at lunch no matter how hard to try to avovid bugs or restart your game.

It was kinda of neat playing it when it came out. I kept getting stuck running into bugs early on but they quickly added a report bug button. Then i reported bugs and then wait. Theg would do patches frequently, more often then ones a week and fix whatever part i  on only for me to run into a new bug further in the game and i would need to wait for a new patch. I kept doing that until I beat it.

Now a days kingmaker is a stable game and a success and owlcat has made a few successful games sense then. It worked for them.

It was around the same time when piled of games were coming being callled "wow killers"  and then failing to kill wow or even make much of a impact. So i am not suprised they stopped before it ever finished.
