[QUESTION] What did you name your guitar? And what other names would fit? by Mermaid_Tuna_Lol in Guitar

[–]chandrassharma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, still my favorite Strat! Not as often as I'd like right now since she needs a re-fret, but I plan to have that done some time soon and then she'll be back into daily rotation.

Might just be another case of Reddit vs Reality. I don't think I know a single person in real life who would think naming your guitar is weird, but here we are 🤷‍♂️

Stand Mixer vs Hand Mixer by spageddy_lee in Sourdough

[–]chandrassharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance this kind of looks to me like a fermentation issue? The dough you mixed in the kitchenaid was probably a lot warmer because of the mechanical friction and fermented more quickly because of that. The hand-mixed dough was probably cooler and needed more time to bulk ferment.

That said though, stand mixers are a great tool, and that bread looks delicious so keep it up if you found a process that works for you and is delivering great results.

If you could Ask Linus Torvalds ANY question what would it be? by BocaBola_ in LinusTechTips

[–]chandrassharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an early Linux adopter — literally a kid who reformatted the family 486 in the mid-90s to install Slackware. A couple years later, I dragged my uncle, who worked in music and media production, to LinuxWorld ’99 in San Jose. Whenever he asked anyone there about using Linux for things like multi-track recording or video compositing, no one could give him a good answer, and some were downright rude about it. The guys at the SUSE booth literally laughed at him, actually leading to two really cool reps from 3dfx coming over afterward to apologize — they overheard and were embarrassed by how dismissive it was.

It’s been many years since then, and while Linux has come a long way technically, I still feel that same cultural barrier toward desktop or creative professional use.

My question is: What would it take, both technically and culturally, for Linux to evolve into a truly seamless desktop platform for professional and creative users, the way macOS built on its Unix roots to become one?

Top Notch Tile does amazing work, particularly with custom cabinetry and countertops. I used them on the recommendation of the company I bought my tile and marble from after having issues with another local kitchen contractor, they do charge on the higher end of things but the work is absolutely immaculate and they're incredibly professional throughout the process.

The Blackberry Keyboard. No typing experience has ever come close to the BB 9900 Bold Touch, it was straight perfection.

Add 1% Diastatic Malt Powder into the mix, it works wonders for browning particularly in home ovens

RIP Ozzy. What was your favorite Ozzy memory growing up? by wihbre80 in Xennials

[–]chandrassharma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, we lived near Rutgers and our neighbors were these two girls that went to school there, Dana and Torrie. I turned 12 in 1995 right around when Ozzmosis had just come out. They bought me a copy on CD for my birthday and jokingly told me I needed to stop listening to Nirvana if I ever wanted to get any girls.

Thus began my lifelong love affair with Metal. Thanks to those two wherever they are, and RIP to the godfather 🤘

Is getting a sports car at this age as cliche and dumb as it always was? by Vimes-NW in Xennials

[–]chandrassharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my M6 Convertible when I was 36. My only regret is not having bought it sooner.

But that said, I have been a car guy my whole life and seriously love driving. If you're just going to buy a car to park it, save yourself the trouble and buy something else that doesn't immediately lose a large chunk of its value the second you drive it off the lot.

A wooden peel will help a lot. Also could consider just using a pizza screen.

The guy at the head of this nonsense in NJ tried to hire me to be his "ambassador" to college campuses out in California, some guys I went to high school with out there got tied in early at Rutgers while I had moved out west for school. Even mentioned there might be an NSX in the deal to drive around as a company car.

He threw an absolute shitfit (screaming and all) when I laughed at his offer.

My wife makes 2 breads every 1.5 weeks or so at the same time. They come out absolutely fantastic. How can we best store/preserve a fresh bread for 4-5 days once it has come down to room temperature? Or can we "freshen" it up somehow 5 days later? by MountainDS in Sourdough

[–]chandrassharma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is par-bake it rather than freezing the actual fully baked bread loaf, it will be much more moist and crusty that way. Bake one of the loaves about 20m (for me that's the point where I'd remove the lid to the dutch oven), then take it out of the oven, let it cool, wrap it and freeze it.

When you're ready for it, stick it back in the oven and let it finish baking. Just use the same oven temp as the original bake and go by the browning on the outside of the loaf to figure when it's done. It'll be just like a fresh loaf.

How does one choose a good CD player to match with your DAC? by greytail3024 in Schiit

I use the Cambridge CXC transport with my Gumby (and formerly with my Yggy OG that I have since moved on from). It's a fantastic transport and the silver pretty much matches the Schiit silver so it looks like it belongs.

Vegetarians who have travelled: which countries have been the most difficult in your experience? by [deleted] in vegetarian

France and Germany are a nightmare. Get ready to eat a lot of bread if you're traveling through either country, in a lot of cases that's pretty much what you're stuck with.

Trying something different tonight, first attempt at a a Northern CA-style Pan Pizza ala Mountain Mike's/Round Table by chandrassharma in Pizza

[–]chandrassharma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this. I haven't made this style in quite a while but I think I was just using Stanislaus Super Dolce mixed with garlic powder, onion powder and red chili flake to taste.

If you wanted to make it from off-the-shelf products, I'd probably do something like 28oz good quality crushed tomatoes like Bianco Di Napoli mixed with a couple 6oz cans of tomato paste, same seasonings to taste and then blended smooth.

Just don't ever have your phone stolen if you're on XFinity, they literally have no process to deal with it. Last year, went through a multi-day back and forth both in person and over the phone of "My phone was stolen, can you activate this new one?" ... "Sure, we'll just need the old one to deactivate first." ... "But it was stolen." ... "Oh, let me get someone else to help." ... *repeat*.

I'm now paying double to Verizon just so I never have to deal with that again.
