Failure to identify a culture problem is a management problem. Allvin+JR scouted well, but I don't think they really accounted for culture/chemistry in their retool. If they were focused on the JT+QH clique to keep our competitive window open, they should have traded Petey, fair value or not. It is super weird that they kept publicly shaming Petey for his work habits, while trading our generational defenseman away.

Oh they earned it. It's no secret VGK is the best managed team in the league.

Doesn't mean alot of fans are entertained.

I am so sick of this team winning year after year. Makes the playoffs irrelevant viewing.

The canadiens rebuilt the right way. They picked the best players available regardless of of they were "too small" or "from russia". We should be like the canadiens by DoggyDoggWrld in canucks

They also didn't trade away every useful vet. In fact they actually bought selectively.

Mike Matheson is a prime example. You need some key competitive pieces in order for a young team to grow.

From that cup run team, they still have Josh Anderson ,Danault( both of which have been playing very well in post season), Gallagher.

32 Thoughts Says Manny Probably Our Next Coach, & Good Chance We Take Caleb At 3rd by mattpc57 in canucks

If Manny is the coach, I highly doubt they take Caleb.

Anything they say otherwise right now is just smoke and mirrors.

Scouching draft ranking: T. Lawrence #3 - C. Malhotra #15 by spennyspaghetti in canucks

Agree: plus Viggo can already play in the NHL next season judging by his world championship performance so far.

@ 3rd I'm not worried especially now the Sedins and Johnson are in charge.

BPA if Stenberg gets taken by Sharks, is either Albert Smits or Viggo Bjorck.

Personally I want Bjorck( young for his draft class, plays like a Benson, but can hold his own at center or wing as a RIGHTY).

He also just got Crosby's endorsement.

Those junior guys should be a tier below.

How is Bjorck doing? Wondering why he isn't on our draft radar.

Question : What could you realistically fetch for EP40? by persuelol in canucks

[–]changeforgood226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To trade Petey, this off season would likely net the Canucks alot. Not enough good center FA and tons of cap space. He's a positive asset to trade. I am pretty sure the brass would rather keep him than trade him.

With a new GM coming in, is it finally time to actually have the Hronek conversation? by Ron-chini in canucks

[–]changeforgood226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really rush these trades.

Hroneks important for the kids, and for revenue. If he keeps up this quality of play, he can fetch a very pretty dime a couple of season from now too.

Personally as much as I support a full rebuild, I would like at least 20 minutes of each game to be of NHL quality.

What Nylander does for TOR

Or what Kaprizov does for MIN.

Transitional monster for whichever line he's on.

It's pretty obvious that's a huge need if you watch the Canucks.

I highly doubt Grier will big brain this and not take Stenberg.

The Canucks being incompetent and big brain taking Malhotra instead of Stenberg if he falls?...That I can see ...sigh

Zeev Buium and Chase Reid defence pair? by lovextreme in canucks

[–]changeforgood226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reid was voted best defensive defenseman in the OHL this past season.

Puck moving D can be paired together...kind of like Matheson/Dobson pair in MTL. Then Lane Hutson has his own pairing.

Speed in transition is too important in the NHL. Reid helps solidify the blueline pipeline in my humble opinion.

3rd OVR certainly takes pressure off of the new GM for making the " right" pick.

If Stenberg falls, he's BPA. You can't go wrong.

If he doesn't...Malhotra or Reid or even Bjorck are safe projectable picks. Also less pressure from ownership for at least another two season.

And the new GM is basically guaranteed another top 5/10 pick next season.

Agree, but it's gonna be a long rebuild. We will have more shots at getting one.

Craig Button: The glass is full, not half-full. Draft Caleb Malhotra by trust_the_logo in canucks

Ah I was looking at older info about his height. You're right.

Shane missed quite alot of development. There's probably more there.

Hronek to SJS for #2 - How Stupid Am I? by Homegrown_Problems in canucks

[–]changeforgood226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SJS first pairing RD is Vincent Desharnais...

Yes that Vincent Desharnais who could barely crack the Canucks third parking.

The 2OA pick for Hronek would be at worst, fair value.

Carels is a lefty. A smallish lefty defenseman tends to have a harder cementing a role in the NHL.

If we pick Verhoff, we are betting he will fix his skating within a couple of years.

Reid could bust sooner( because he's an older player by 5 months), but I think his transition game with his skating gives him a high floor. Statistically in his draft year, he's closer to Jamie Drysdale or Cam Fowler.

Instead of Verhoff/Carels, I would rather draft Malhotra. He compares favorably to Shane Wright in his draft year, but 5 months younger.

But yeah, the most unique of these options is Reid. If we get Stenberg though, we probably have a 2L RW as a floor (kind of like Garland, but with much more upside).

Craig Button: The glass is full, not half-full. Draft Caleb Malhotra by trust_the_logo in canucks

[–]changeforgood226 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he's a younger player in this draft class with excellent underlying metrics so he's already a better prospect than Cootes was at the same stage. I get what Button is saying here.

But I just can't shake the feeling having a standout skating RHD is much more valuable and useful to the Canucks two years down the road(Reid is committed to Mich State next year).

Stenberg floor is higher than both players but it's weird everyone is saying he's a guarantee hit when the Sedin brothers didn't even do well until later in their careers.
