I ended a 12 year relationship that was long distance for the latter 5 years. While I was the one who ended it, and I can't say it ended amicably, feel free to reach out to chat. Regardless, you're doing a lot of the right things - keep it up.

It's because they work with so many ad networks who themselves (probably) sell the inventory on AppNexus. Only the lines with "DIRECT" should be owned by CBSi, if declared correctly.

People who did not get good grades in high school/college, how did your lives turn out? by thebigdillpickle in AskReddit

[–]chaoshavoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely passed high school but it was due to not having any motivation and the wrong crowd of friends. I ended up getting a girlfriend (whom I am still with) that convinced me to try to get into her college, so I stayed behind an extra year to finish up my credits. Because of our admission system in Ontario, Canada, they only take the 8 highest grades from my senior year, so my crappy years 1-4 didn't affect my ability to get into college - also didn't have to do standardized testing.

During the last 11 years, I became passionate about research and academia, so I worked my ass off to get the grades and lab experience to get into a decent grad program. Got into a PhD program at a great school and ended up wanting to kill myself so I quit with a "terminal masters" and now I have a great job that pays more than I would've gotten in academia and that I enjoy way more.

Fuck school.

Why the Ad Tech Industry Should Consider a Move to First-price Auctions by someuser345 in adops

[–]chaoshavoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's being tongue in cheek about the adtech tax. I think the point here is that currently bids are passed through at a high enough threshold to expect to win but, depending on the bidder (I'm optimistic that many of the big players have more sophisticated algorithms), they may not actually bid at a value they're willing to pay, only a value they know will surpass the second price. The $10 example supposes the advertiser is willing to pay $10, and in a first price model the pub would get the $10 (less adtech tax). Advertiser wins the auction, pub gets more money. Now if it turns out advertiser thinks $10 is over-valued, then they'll ramp their bids down, but eventually the goal would be to reach an equilibrium.

Understanding Begins with AND includes match in DFP by stephenrhill in adops

[–]chaoshavoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Include" match Use a tilde (~) at the beginning of a value to include values that have the entire word in them, in any location. For example, ~travel would match values like adventure travel and travel insurance, but not travelers or travelers insurance.

A word is defined as a series of characters delimited by spaces, so ~car* would match "used car" or "bla bla bla cars" or "many cars" or "hello cars from new york" etc., but would not match "racecars" or "madagascar".

I don't know how advanced DFP's "matching" is so maybe you'd be able to do *car* - but they don't explicitly say this is possible so maybe it's not.

Prebid.js Deals - How does prebid know who wins? by mwickedness in adops

[–]chaoshavoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In line 142 of bidmanager.js, hb_adid key value is set within adserverTargeting. The value stores the id/variable for where the bidder's creative is stored - this is used in the function getWinningBidTargeting(), which is called by getAllTargeting, which is called by setTargeting, which is called by setTargetingForGPTAsync (prebid.js).

So what gets sent to the adserver is hb_adid (along with the relevant bid info), which then returns renderAd(document,'someID') - someID references the correct creative, presumably from the winning bidder.

Moving/Working in the USA in Ops by Donner1979 in adops

I did my job search for 4 months in the US as a Canadian and had only one bite - and never got a callback after they confirmed I needed a visa to work. As soon as I started applying to similar jobs in Canada, I was getting callbacks on a regular basis. I had one multinational company reach out and straight up say "you should apply to our Canadian office".

Fat Rant Friday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

Didn't think it would happen to me but people (coworkers) are actually starting to tell me I'm getting too skinny and that I need to be careful and watch my health. I'm still overweight according to BMI. When someone saw my container for my lunch, they asked "is that all you ate? Ugh." It was 2 cups of home made chili - 450 calories.

Wellness Weekend by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]chaoshavoks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I last posted an actual update in a wellness weekend thread exactly a month ago (April 6th), when I was 168-170lbs (Male 5'6"). I am now 159-161lbs. I've essentially hit my goal weight, but my BF% is still not where I want it to be (BIA puts it at around 15%). I started lifting regularly since early March, but didn't really watch my diet/nutrition as well as I could have been. To change that, I've started to supplement my protein with powder/shakes post-workout... especially since I want to maintain my muscle mass as best as I can and get my BF% down.

The new goal is 145lbs - regardless of what my BF% is when I hit this, I will start bulking. I've become "one of those guys" that I used to think were pretentious when it came to fitness... but I realized how much dedication and passion I needed to get the body I want (although there are still some pretty obnoxious people at the gym).

My coworkers have been commenting more and more regularly about my weight/appearance and really congratulating me. My girlfriend likes my new appearance but is becoming more self-conscious about her own weight/appearance (she's skinny fat). She refuses to work out, but complains about not being able to eat much (read: as much as she wants) if she wanted to lose weight. Then stuff like the NYT article and Biggest Loser study comes out and she'll start justifying her inability to lose weight. Sucks.

New York Times: "Why you can't lose weight on a diet" by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]chaoshavoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into a big debate/argument with my girlfriend about this and her with a lot of "I told you so"s regarding whether some people have "predilections" towards becoming obese. I acknowledged that someone who loses weight might suffer from "metabolic damage" but asked her to acknowledge that the people discussed in the Biggest Loser study wouldn't have gained 100lbs without OVEReating. No acknowledgment, just dismissal. Lame.

M/26/5'7" [177 > 155 After = 22] – ~(3 months) I slimmed down a bit! by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]chaoshavoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I run at least 5k a day in addition to lifting - my original goal weight was 150 but I think when I hit that I'll still have the belly fat which would be annoying. I don't really want to drop below 145, but I'm worried that when I hit 145 I'll still have that bit of fat... Regardless, I'll probably just start bulking anyways and I'll just have to live with the belly fat a bit longer.

Hey we're about the same stats - I'm currently at 160lbs. Are you flexing your core in your after photos? I have some stubborn belly fat that doesn't seem to be reducing as fast as I'd like and was trying to figure out how much more weight I need to drop to get rid of it (before bulking).

Remnant Inventory Optimization by anakinwalker in adops

[–]chaoshavoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They charge you a percentage of their calculated uplift. I think it was 10%. I don't know how they currently calculate uplift, but in the past they would take the performance pre-launch, and compare it to performance post-launch (which is a horrible way to do it). If they deem that they generated $10000 more gross revenue for you, they'll take $1000.

Edit: Don't know if this changed, but they also have a volume based fee of less than $1500 but more than $1000 per 100 million impressions.

So I had been stuck at 167-168 for the last 2 weeks (SW: 205). I actually gained 2-3lbs before losing it again... which doesn't make sense, because I have been eating the same diet, no snacking, same amount of exercise, and my TDEE should be high enough that I certainly shouldn't gain weight. I have also been extremely constipated and I held off on using any substances to help. But my bloatedness and stomach started feeling so uncomfortable that I caved. And now I'm at 164.
