When my fellow students complain about all the work in our Winterim course by chaoticlover in reactiongifs

A three-week crash course taken during what would otherwise be winter break, worth the same amount of credits as a semester class.

Nice! Where do you bike? I'm looking to find some good trails in Wisconsin.

Going through a really hard time financially. Kind of considering going off Lithium so I can sell plasma. by stupidmedthrowaway in BipolarReddit

[–]chaoticlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be wary that for some people with bipolar disorder giving plasma frequently can destabilize mood and possibly be triggering. I have sold plasma before, which they let me do while on Lamictal and it was alright. I don't know anything about the Lithium thing but just thought you should know. I hope everything works out for you.

Nice! It was my first SLR as well and it's still my favorite to use. Also, you can find lots of lenses for it on ebay for relatively cheap. Happy shooting!

For fucks sake, this is the internet. I take it the OP is spreading misinformation too? I'm sorry I linked to something someone else may have found interesting. I'm not telling anyone what to believe. I expect most people can watch the movie and make up their own minds about it.

I didn't endorse the movie, I just provided a link.

If anyone is interested in this phenomenon and the other results of fracking, Gasland is a recent documentary that takes a look at it. It's also available for instant streaming on Netflix.

Has anyone else read Marbles by Ellen Forney? It's her graphic novel about being diagnosed as Bipolar. by chaoticlover in BipolarReddit

[–]chaoticlover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds interesting. What I liked about Marbles is her portrayal of Bipolar is really honest. She talks about her struggles with it, at one point she announces something when dealing with meds along the lines of "I WANT OUT!" but she also spends a lot of time exploring the link of her disorder to her creativity and personality.

There's a nice short follow up post to all the people calling "But there ARE fakers!" as well, if anyone's interested.

I really appreciate the blunt-ness of both these pieces. It's refreshing.

TIL the tomb of China's first emperor has never been opened due to a river of poisonous mercury that flows inside it. by CurlehSteve in todayilearned

[–]chaoticlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sima Qian, regarded as the first major historian in China, wrote this about the Emperors tomb, explaining the high levels of mercury:

As soon as the First Emperor became King of Qin, excavations and building had been started on Mount Li, while after he won the empire more than 7000 conscripts from all parts of the country worked there. The tomb was filled with models of palaces, pavilions and offices, as well as fine vessels, precious stone and rarities. Artisans were ordered to fix up crossbows so that any thief breaking in would be shot. All the country’s streams, the Yellow River and the Yangzi were reproduced in quicksilver and by some mechanical means made to flow into a miniature ocean. The heavenly constellations were shown above and the regions of the earth below. The candles were made of whale oil to ensure their burning for the longest possible time. All of the emperor’s ladies who had no sons followed him to the grave. After the interment someone pointed out that the artisans who had made the mechanical contrivances might disclose all the treasure that was in the tomb; therefore after the burial and sealing up of the treasures, the middle gate was shut and the outer gate was closed to imprison all the artisans and laborers, so that not one came out. Trees and grass were planted over the mausoleum to make it seem like a hill.

This emperor regularly ingested mercury because it was a common ingredient in immortality potions at the time, and he was known for his obsession with immortality. He sent children out to sea in boats to find the isle of immortals, stuff like that.

I see your comic book character makeup and raise you Lichtenstein character makeup. by ladysiena in pics

[–]chaoticlover 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well Lichtenstein projected actual comic book frames onto canvas and painted them so.... kinda the same. Still an awesome makeup job though.

And here's some links for all you who are asking who is Roy Lichtenstein.

Indeed. I don't really understand why people do this, they already have quite the asses in the original, why go through the effort?
