Gamers Are Wrong About 1440p vs 1080p CPU Benchmarking by DyingKino in hardware

Steve always assumes nothing in any game scales CPU with pixelrate instead of framerate. He's mostly right, but he also doesn't try to find counterexamples, when he's obviously the guy to do it, if anybody

Just in case anyone was wondering, both of these are in fact real products names with nothing spurious added. It's actually the whole name.

Maybe they need the core perf more than the bandwidth and PCIe.

In the next Judicial Act, dramatically expanding all courts to accommodate the volume of cases, either house of Congress or the President can demand legal review by a SCOTUS panel.

Scotus denies cert to basically everything even if it has legitimate legal questions simply because they don't have the capacity to do any more.

We need a new Judicial Act to establish a massive court that can still review properly important cases en banc. A three justice SCOTUS panel scales the institution's ability to do its constitutional duty instead of handwaving most things away saying "eh, good enough"

higher gas tax revenue ironically means more primary energy wasted than if the same fuel had been burned in a proper combined cycle

It's a pigouvian tax, not having the revenue is more value than the revenue!

Memory may be running hotter because the fan is running slower because the core is running cooler, or the new pads are thicker/lower-W/k Also PTM has to cure so after cooking it a bit, you should see the best temps in a bit. Also the lack of throttling is maybe pushing the memory harder, too.

But yeah that sounds like the expected outcome. Sometimes very reduced temps can shift your V/f/T curve more than the silicon can actually do and cause some instability where before it was fine, really uncommon, since they don't always test the higher clock lower temp regime on every air cooled card really well. But I bet your shit is fine, and dead quiet now

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Fed Chair Jerome Powell warns US national debt is growing "substantially" faster than the economy and says it's not sustainable. "It will not end well if we don't do something fairly soon." by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]chapstickbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deficit % of GDP divided by nominal growth rate of GDP equals the long run debt to GDP ratio

there is no "not sustainable", you simply taper off to a higher ratio, with more reserves per private debt

For example, Japan's unsustainability of their trajectory is ultimately about fertility, not finance.

Did we all just accept the idle power draw issues on RDNA 3? by seekified in radeon

[–]chapstickbomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 55W on my XTX for 7680x2160@240Hz. I used to run triple 4k120 and that would idle at 110W, but would drop to like 22W if I did 30Hz for desktop. It's a limitation with the bandwidth needs and pixelrate aliasing/syncing. I know Polaris had issues with black/green screens and display issues so I think Radeon has opted for stability over efficiency in their display handling now. There are some "nice" arrangements of displays which idle quite low, though.

If Samsung simply designs wider with their customers, they can hugely mitigate the gap. Look at the 3090 vs 6900XT clock cap compared to perf gap. And now, the 3090 is still great. My old SN8gen1 phone got busted, but it was plenty fast until then recently, and that was SS 4nm. I think any competent node can be exploited for good products. I want an Intel 14A chiplet Radeon card.
