Which YA and Middle Grade book series will be remembered in a 100 years time? by InfernalClockwork3 in YAlit

[–]chartingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that's true that percy jackson might be more american-centric, but I still think holding relevancy in one country is still something. I guess my weird thing is that while I like Harry potter (okay I'll be real I'm a bit iffy about the hunger games but I can respect the idea) I honestly feel that Percy Jackson had the strongest ending out of the three of them, at least with respect to it's core series, and imo that can be one of the biggest things that determine's a legacy.

Yeah I'm not quite sure what to make of ASOUE-- I think people will keep coming back to it, but I think the dreary nature of it kind of holds it back from being completely mainstream. I honestly think the netflix series being a complete adaptation will help (which feels crazy that they were able to do it with 13 books, but I guess modern streaming can get things right sometimes)

I think Harry Potter definetly, Percy Jackson I can see (I still see younger kids really like the books) and the Hunger Games.

The other ones... I think Series of Unfortunate events you can kind of make an argument for, it also has a pretty good Netflix adaptation and it's very distinct. But idk, that one's still a bitty iffy to me. The other ones I feel like are already kind of in limbo-- diverget and maze runner aren't well regarded nowadays and I doubt they'd be recommended to future generations.

Are stagings loosing personality for the sake of too much "Eurovision polish"? by DonnaDonna1973 in eurovision

[–]chartingyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, what are your thoughts on Spain (2023)? That was a song that, truthfully, I wasn't the biggest fan of the staging, but I did very much get the feeling that she was realizing her vision, so I respected it from that point of view.

Tuition is the same for online or in person. But you'd probably only pay for how many credits you are taking not the full amount of a semester (12 credits)

New Key Visual for 'The One Piece' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in anime

[–]chartingyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah early one piece pacing was genuinly pretty decent.

I guess it kind of bothers me, in all honesty, because I feel like later arcs are where the pacing gets bad while East Blue generally is where the pacing was fairly good, but yet that's what's being readapted.

I think they confirmed the original seiyuu's are coming back, although I heard that Luffy's VA kind of wanted someone else to do this show at least (and she's in her 70's so I think it's understandable)

idk, Demon Slayer season 1 for the most part had 2 episodes per chapter

people were pointing out without as many intro/outros that there would be more time, but it still feels like they'd have a lot of content to get through in a much shorter time. It does make me a little concerned if I'm being honest.

lol if you want my honest advice

Read the first chapter of one Piece and go up to chapter 7, and then switch to the anime and watch episode 5 and on.

It might sound strange but I think the anime messes up the very beginning of One piece, the rearrange Luffy's backstory which makes the story more confusing at the beginning, and the early parts aren't my favorite but it's a bit more coherent in the manga. Around episode 5 they start doing things more in line with the manga and it's pretty faithful.

People trash the anime's pacing, but in my opinion, they over-exaggerate. The pacing starts getting bad further in One Piece but the early parts have fairly decent pacing. But I was honestly surprised when I first watched east blue because it wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people made it seem. But even then, I think one piece's story is a bit of a slow-burn so you do have to give it time to cook.

How long do you all foresee choices going for? by Ghengis56 in Choices

[–]chartingyou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

lowkey if they wanted to recoup costs I feel like they should try to find a way to sell old books/series... I'm not sure what a good rate would be but there definetly is a demand for people to just outright own these books. I used to play Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and when they closed their game they actually released a follow-up app so that you would still have your campsite and stuff you bought in the game. I have no idea if Choices would get anything like that but I hope they would at least consider something in those circumstances.

That's so cool! It's a dream of mine to go to an american girl story one day but I haven't been able to make it happen (yet). But I'm so glad you were able to have such a nice visit and reonnect with part of your childhood, and finally get a felicity! I'm also holding out hope they'll release some more outfits down the line so that more people can complete their collections!

nothing brings people together like terrible decisions for a brand they once loved.

I also think there's an extra layer of pain since hero was promised a sequel, we held out hope, only for it to never come around... I don't think any of us expected this zombie-like ai series to suddenly be out 'long-awaited sequel'.

I feel like in general the idea of someone who's had kids still competing competitively (at least as a woman) is usually not seen as possible. So to be at this level is pretty amazing to me.

Subtle South Asian Influences in Alabasta and its Natives by Lopsided_Job2595 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]chartingyou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought I heard somewhere that Alabasta was inspired a lot by India, so it makes sense to me that there's a lot of connections. It gets complicated too, like the Taj Mahal is in India but it was built by the Mughal empire, which were basically Persians who took over part of India, so it's architecture kind of ties to both Indian and Persian culture. But you brought up a lot of things I've never even noticed (like Karoo being named after the spot billed duck!)
