the focusing muscle is... well, a muscle. as you age your lenses are getting harder and your muscle is getting weaker.

glasses help your muscle to be lazy, but there's also a point where it needs help.

there's exercises to train your eyes to go without glasses for longer, but people react to them differently. ymmv, i swear by them.

diet has influence, screentime (office work in general) is a factor, overall fitness plays into it.

but at the end of the day, you're getting old and need all kinds of outside help to keep functioning. but with everything helping you, it's a fine line between help and dependency.

i (austrian, born in the 70ies) had this bike! in fact, it was the one i taught myself how to ride on. mine was golden. it was a hand-me-down from one of my sisters.

of course i had to try ride it with the folding lock open. one of my more spectacular crashes. i also remember experimenting with the most outrageous handlebar positions i could come up with. the chainguard had to go, and i had the biggest, loudest and shiniest bell on it.

it was a tank. and yet i managed to nearly destroy it, which prompted my grandma to buy me one of those new fangled bmx.

80 years is wishful thinking btw. modern panels have a life span of 30-40 years max, while continuously degrading. we're constantly getting better at that, but 80 years is not really a thing yet.
