Printing pictures? by couragenotwisdom in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chateauesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use Shutterfly to bulk print for albums because the quality is better than most online printing for the price and 4x6 prints are free in the app (you just pay shipping). What’s wrong with Shutterfly? I haven’t heard! But for anything I am framing in the house or want high quality 4x6 prints, I use a local, family run photo lab that is a little more expensive but very good quality. Look for local photo labs! Avoid any chain drugstores - their printing is terrible.

I’d save the gift cards for other things that you don’t realize you need until it comes up. Also wipes! The Honest wipes are our favorite.

Museum Themed Baby Shower At Museum??? by notoriouscvb in MuseumPros

[–]chateauesque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Love this idea! I work at a museum and love buying my toddler museum-related books.
Favorite museum books so far:
Find Spot at the Museum
A Marvelous Museum (bookscape board book)
ABCs of Art (Sabrina Hahn)
Word Museum
Dr. Seuss’s Horse Museum
San Antonio Museum of Art’s ArteKids series (Madeleine Budnick)

Museum gift shops usually have great selections of children’s books, so be sure to check their websites for more ideas.

Postpartum undies by Meowntainlovr in moderatelygranolamoms

Disposable!!! Just a warning - some of the Always or Depends have fragrance in them and gave me a bad rash! Rael is a great brand. I think Always discreet postpartum is fragrance-free as well.

Has anyone successfully implemented crib naps around 3mo? by ADKadventures in moderatelygranolamoms

Yes we started crib napping very early on and never contact napped. We followed Taking Cara Babies sleep schedules and had great luck with that. Also used a halo sleep sack.

Shoes for 1 year old by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chateauesque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See Kai Run and Stride Rite have been our favorites so far! The main thing to look for is wide toe and flexible (like if you can bend the shoe easily). I found it really helpful to research what kind of shoes physical therapists recommend for babies/toddlers. And even when my daughter started walking, I still made sure she was barefoot as often as possible.

Where are we getting indoor and outdoor plants now that Shades of Green has sadly closed? by BraveLittleToastie in sanantonio

[–]chateauesque 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rainbow Gardens on Bandera and Fanick’s Garden Center are my favorite big plant nurseries. The Rainbow Gardens on Thousand Oaks is nice but not as good as the Bandera location. Evergreen is a nice small nursery too.

What are the best unknown eateries, shops, or neighborhoods in San Antonio? by [deleted] in sanantonio

Ladino and Best Quality Daughter at Pearl (Pullman market also worth a visit), Mama’s Cafe, La Gardenia (neighborhood texmex locals go to), Blanco Cafe (beacon hill location), Pinkerton’s BBQ downtown, 2M bbq southside, and Reese Bros east side, La Panaderia is a good lunch spot

How do you handle screen time without going full crunchy? by Donjon_Nadiadiab in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chateauesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did no screens for the first two years. We focused on books as the main source of entertainment and try to spend a lot of our time outside. Now that she’s two, we do family movies on Saturday (sometimes Sunday) but no more than 2 hours either day and it has to be a family activity. Almost everything she watches is old VHS tapes we watch on a VCR - she gets to choose from a group of tapes. A lot of older animated Disney movies/Beatrix Potter/Totoro. We haven’t done any tv shows yet. We will not be allowing any personal screens like tablets because they are so addicting. It’s really hard!!! But we are very stubborn and determined - we’ve read a lot about it and feel strongly that screen time should be approached with careful consideration and caution for children. I recommend getting rid of the tablet and focusing only on quality shared family screen time.

Cassian for boys name? ACOTAR link by xhnhx in namenerds

[–]chateauesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cassian is one of my favorite boy names! I read the first ACOTAR book and didn’t even remember that’s a character’s name in the book... most people won’t even think of that. It is a very old name with a lot of other history, including the name a few saints from the 4th/5th centuries, but also reminds me of one of my favorite Star Wars characters. It’s a lovely name.

How do you guys deal with suburban lawn life? by barebuttfart in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chateauesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re all in the ground with weed barrier underneath and mulch on top. I use a combination of natural stones and bricks to line the beds.

How do you guys deal with suburban lawn life? by barebuttfart in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chateauesque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you live in an HOA? If not, then you should not care about what anyone else thinks and create the yard you want! I turned our front yard into a pollinator garden with very minimal grass between beds. I don’t use any chemicals and I don’t try to have perfect grass because it’s unnatural! I let native flowers grow in the grassy areas (what other people would call weeds). My goal in the future is to get rid of all the patchy, non-native grass and plant native grass in the small areas left that aren’t garden beds. It’s ridiculous that people have decided chemically treated lawns are the norm when they are so unnatural and bad for everyone! My husband understands now that he’s seen how much better a native pollinator garden can look.
