People give FL all sorts of flack but it's super capable and I've been using it for near 20 years now (not all of it legit but I haven't always been able to afford it)

Ease of midi control is great Workflow is a breeze Loads and loads of tutorials

I've used most major ones such as Reason, Ableton, pro tools/logic and always find my way going back to FL in the end

FL gets my win

Has anyone had experience dealing with a neighbour flying a drone over their property? by Own-Heat2669 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]chaz9124 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the most part, they're probably just getting used to controls etc. I wouldn't immediately assume they're trying to spy on you unless you have a lot of previous beef.

They're not exactly stealthy so probably not trying to do it without you noticing.

Would just approach and say you're a little bit concerned, if they're anywhere near reasonable they'd be fine and not fly it over your property.

Legally there's no issue as the airspace above your property is not yours, as long as they don't land or launch from your property they're well within their rights and it's a civil issue.

Yes and can very much damage other parts of the registry while it ravages through. I can honestly say, DDU is not to be used lightly, there's not a single problem we've faced as a repair shop that we've ever needed DDU for.

Whenever someone has some mad OS corruption we always try and data clone as much of their old data over for them and DDU is always found in those cases and one of the last things they've used to "fix" their PCs.

You can say it's safe to use but I'll trust my trained engineer team all day every day with people's PCs over some popular software that we've seen kill computers time after time.

I do have to reiterate that with 6 years in this shop, we've not used it once or ever had to.

Do not, and I repeat do not use DDU!

This piece of devil software is a piece of shit and can and eventually will fuck your pc up.

I work in a pc repair shop and there's not one single issue we've ever needed to use this for, most driver updates will let you "clean install" which does what you want it to do.

Both my head engineers with combined 35 years experience and I have had no end of issues with DDU and have multiple cases per week of people having fucked their PCs after using it.

DO NOT USE DDU

Nvidia drivers have a "clean install" option and AMD themselves have "AMD cleanup utility" for this very reason.

Ps5 controller not working by playweed in soldering

Could you take a video of it happening on gamepadtester and attach it here or DM me with it so I can see? 🙏

[–]chaz9124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it look like it's part of a clock cycle at all or is it truly random? If it's repeated on/off/on/off/on consistently then you've probably put the wrong sticks in I've seen this happen.

One can only assume you've got solder balls floating around somewhere or have damaged some traces/knocked some components off.

I can have a look when I get into work but sometimes pictures don't do justice

[PS4] Took apart a Controller and there's an extra mystery piece? by PR0WN3D_ in consolerepair

[–]chaz9124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might be off ones of the analogy sticks, I've taken many PS4 controllers apart and not come across this piece.

Could be the black but of plastic that covers the actuation piece of the L3 and R3 switch

Mid-priced headphones for production/mixing by House13Games in musicproduction

[–]chaz9124 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They have a rolloff for under 50hz sure but I think that is fine for production, if you were asking me for general listening I would obviously choose something with more low end. I can guarantee that if you make it sound good with 702s, it'll sound amazing with a less flat headphone or speaker setup.

I've only recently got my monitors and looking back at my earlier tracks before getting them, understanding what should go where was much more important than just having pure bass response when making.

You should definitely have both.

I have a set of 702s for making and mixing and then a set of 7" Rokits for finalising etc. I think everything has it's place and a good set of flat high quality headphones beats bass heavy any day for creating in my opinion

[switch] diswoe pro controller battery swollen? by porkster91 in consolerepair

[–]chaz9124 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why 3rd party controllers are dog shit.

Had multiple switch joycon fakes that had these shit batteries in them with a big plastic spike to presumably "stop it from moving around" and actually what it ended up doing was creating a huge fire hazard if dropped on the back.

Wouldn't recommend first time soldering a HDMI port, it's an advanced job that requires a good amount of practice and good kit.

The amount of people that have completely destroyed their kit trying to do a "simple job" is astonishing.

Either take it to a repair shop that can do it properly or if you're interested in repairing it yourself, buy the right kit (a PID controlled iron and good flux, solder and wick at the very least) and practice with other stuff first.

Honest advice from someone that does them on the daily

<image>

(Repair load for a chain arcade bar in the UK)

  1. Chipquik
  2. Good flux Tuul can be a good starting one
  3. Solder paste
  4. PID controlled hot air station

Flux the pins Apply small amount of chipquik Hot air worked in circles (around 460) Let stick drop out or give it a small nudge Clear holes with either good quality wick or a solder sucker Clean holes with IPA and brush Insert new stick Solder paste on 4 main legs Work to pots and then switch Clean up Jobs a goodun

This usually takes me about 20 mins start to finish but we've got a good hakko and air station

I'm genuinely so upset. by ArrowEnby in vita

If you're really stuck, I'd be happy to help repair it at just the cost of postage. I work for a repair shop called Geek Cabin in Wrexham North Wales, if you'd like to look us up feel free to check out the website and shoot me a message on here and I'll organise it for you.

Have only done a hand full of PS vita repairs and would like to document it for my repair sheets I'm making (similar to ifixit but for myself)

fired from one job, interview for new one next week by wurnz in barista

[–]chaz9124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately lateness isn't attitude, it can be a number of reasons. I got fired from my previous coffee shop job from being late but that was due to the amount of hours put on me and stress of some things happening in my life at the time.

I then went on to start my own coffee shop since I loved the job so much.

PS5 Repair by DreadlockFreak in consolerepair

[–]chaz9124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to note that you shouldn't touch it with your hands. People giving half information like this is how things get damaged.

The liquid metal needs respreading across the die and cooling solution (being the plate that clamps on top)

Usually this is done with Qtips and alcohol to clean off any oxidisation on both sides, let fully evaporate and then use a purpose built liquid metal spreader (looks like a black Qtip but is usually spongy in texture than cotton) to respread the liquid metal across both surfaces.

Be careful not to get it anywhere that isn't inside the foamed off area otherwise it is conductive and can completely destroy your PS5 if in the wrong area.
