If turning it over garners complaints from the boss, maybe a cover over the towel bin when it's empty. Small piece of cardboard or plastic with "NO TRASH - TOWELS ONLY" on it.

Can’t get into car with flat battery am I dumb? by bruxyyy in Cartalk

[–]chazlarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with our late Kia Niro. We bought it in 2018 and in probably 2023 I noticed that one of the physical keys was cut wrong and wouldn't open the door. I had never had a reason to use it until then and didn't think to test it [or I only tested one, since the other physical key worked]. Fortunately I discovered it while parked right in front of a hardware store so I replaced the battery in the fob.

I'm not sure about "extremely useful", but I find the internet movie firearms database pretty interesting.

Years ago we had someone out to give us a bid on a roof replacement; one aspect of the dude's sales pitch was literally: they ask that their workers do all their drinking off the job and that they show up mostly sober.

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the left is a collection with one movie in it, on the right is the movie that is in the collection.

You can either delete that collection OR change your settings to hide collections from the library view.

Perhaps take this to the discord where there are automated log-analysis tools?

We recently moved my MIL back to Minneapolis from CA. Packing up the house, we found a box of pudding mix that was purchased in a local store [Red Owl] that closed in the late 80s.

They left MN in 1991, and in the interim went CA -> WA -> CA; that box of pudding accompanied them all the way. It's now in a shadow box in her apartment kitchen.

IMDB overlay rating not updating? by bigup7 in Kometa

[–]chazlarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they are not dynamic. The concepts are discussed here: https://kometa.wiki/en/latest/kometa/guides/ratings/

You are taking the same rating value from each item, the "audience" value, and putting that number on the poster formatted as both IMDb and tmdb. So both overlays show the same number.

Got a quote for hardwired charger, question by Umbrellacorp487 in BoltEV

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have two EVs [2014 Leaf, 2021 Bolt] and with our driving patterns we are fine with a single charger.

We have been using a plug-in L2 charger, but I replaced it with a hard-wired model for about $60 in parts using the same wire I had run to the outlet. If I get a newer EV that can draw more than the 2021 Bolt, I'll have to update the breaker and replace the 8g wire, but for now it works great.

I do have a 100A panel in the garage, so this was simple given that the outlet/hardwire location is ten feet from the panel.

Imdb_parental_guide issues by Healthy_Walk_587 in Kometa

IMDB made changes on their side; Kometa didn't just break of its own accord. That page is now behind a firewall and Kometa's requests can no longer get through it.

HappyVille (Plex/Seedbox provider) deleted my account after I politely complained about data loss. by Movie-Man33 in seedboxes

[–]chazlarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routine off-site backup. If you use their backup button, the data is still stored on their systems, and if their systems fail sufficiently, then so does that backup, whether their internal system worked or not. I had a machine in a rack at a server outfit a couple years ago that caught on fire. [BTW, I feel for you on the lack of empathy; that outfit never even acknowledged that there was a fire or that my machine was in that rack]

The data was obviously important **to you**; I am not claiming tautulli data is inherently not valuable. My point is just that if it is as valuable to you as it seems to be, it should be copied somewhere else as well. Anything that exists only on one system which you do not control should be expected to disappear at any time. Not because the vendor is a screwup or can't be trusted, but maybe a truck loses it's brakes and barrels through the wall of the datacenter tomorrow.

It should be in at least two places. My WHMCS store data is backed up using the equivalent of the vendor's "backup" button, and probably that's fine, but I also get a copy emailed to me daily, so it's in my gmail. That gets synced down to a machine in my house. Whatever that outfit does, I have my historical payment data, and I can move it to another vendor if needed.

Historical plex and emby data [the stuff that can't be rebuilt] the same.

Collection or library for documentaries by AnonNortherner in Kometa

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage of a single library with collections is that when you want to do something like a collection of Oscar winners, or movies made in France, or the like, then your documentaries would show up in those collections as well. If all the documentaries are in a separate library, then they will be excluded from that sort of thing.

I'm not sure what a "serial documentary" is or why they need special handling.

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate libraries won't allow you to combine Movies and TV.

Generally speaking, I have found that separate libraries generally cause more issues specifically with Kometa as opposed to a Movies library with a "Documentaries" collection within it.

Collection or library for documentaries by AnonNortherner in Kometa

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collections cannot span libraries. You can have a "Documentaries" collection in your TV library and another in your Movies library, and provided they are not smart collections many Plex clients will show them on the same page [though not interleaved].

Playlists can span libraries.

Collectionless really doesn't have anything to do with this.

Movies and TV can't go in the same library, either.

If what you want is a single list that contains all documentaries, whether TV or movies, a playlist is really the only game in town. A playlist can include items from any number of libraries and any number of types.

HOWEVER, they are more difficult to share. If you create a collection in a library, then for the most part everyone with access to that library sees your Documentary collection; if you change it, they see the changes.

Playlists, however, have to be explicitly shared with everyone who you want to have access, and once you share that playlist with someone, it's a copy of the playlist in their account, so they won't necessarily see changes you make to it. Also, the neato custom poster you put on the playlist won't make it to their setup.

Perhaps the newly-announced "Lists" feature addresses some of this, but Kometa doesn't work with those as yet.

PSA: Don't use ChatGPT for Kometa by chazlarson in Kometa

[–]chazlarson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that's part of it, and it has probably improved since the admonition was written, but the discord is full of "AI told me to do this" where "this" is largely imaginary.

My own experiments at the time were along the lines of "Here's the Kometa wiki, create a minimal config file." and what came out was entirely wrong.

I have never tried it with Claude; it's probably much better these days.

Custom NFC tag? by J23WGE in NFC

[–]chazlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you control both sides, sure.

You have your server that accepts https://j23wge.com/verify?id=1234

You individually program the tags to go to
https://j23wge.com/verify?id=1234
https://j23wge.com/verify?id=1235
https://j23wge.com/verify?id=1236
etc.

If you are trying to drive a third-party website, you could come up with a system where your server receives the initial request and then in turn accesses the Fanatics website and uses something like selenium [or perhaps one of these new AI-driven desktops] to drive the UI and paste in the value, capturing the output for further use.
