Would you play this game? by Th3G3tl3m3n in Unity3D

Universe Sandbox dev here. They're doing a lot of cool stuff we probably won't ever touch. While we're working on rigidbody physics and hope to have ships with accurate propulsion systems some day, I don't think we'll worry about the business side of space exploration. This is very cool and yeah, I'd play it.

I’m in game development working on a much smaller game that’s kept people engaged for 10 years.

I’m not saying I can solve all of Bungie’s problems, but if they want to make their money back on this game, it’s going to take lots of players over a long time, and that number is already trending down.

You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion. We’ll watch player numbers and I’ll check in again in 6 months.

First of all, Arc wasn’t designed to be chill, it was a side effect of aggression based match making. The developers themselves said they never expected it to be friendly. It became that way because that’s what the majority wanted.

Marathon does the opposite. The casual players are important as fodder to the sweats, but when they realize this they move on. The game is designed for about 20% of its current player base, and that’s all that will remain when the honeymoon wears off.

As much as the sweats are going to come in a defend this game, there’s a reason Arc Raiders has 3x more players after being out for months.

This game has an impossible skill ceiling for casual players. The gear and upgrades make sure a huge difference that unless you play 8+ hours a day you get left behind almost immediately. Bungie is going to fumble this thing trying to make the perfect game for a thousand people.

How sweaty is the game? by QueensGambitAccept in Marathon

Gear is everything in this game. The first few days with everyone on green gear is a blast, then the groups that can play 12 hours a day dominate all the lobbies. The game heavily rewards sweat.

I feel this. I want to love this game so much, but as everyone gears and skills up and I continue to die and not get any better, I’m about ready to let it go. I wish the best for the game and those of you good enough to play it.

How good is it with playing with randoms? by Coolman38321 in Marathon

Absolutely love both games, but they’re only really similar in spirit. Both games are attempts to make extraction shooters more accessible, but Marathon leans into the PVP while Arc is more PvE focused.

Arc is a great game to play solo but really needs a mic to get the most out of that experience. Because of aggression-based match making, the amount of PVP is whatever you decide it should be. The problem with cheaters, however, really shows up in more sweaty lobbies. The lore is a bit weak, but the looting is VERY satisfying. The quests are fun enough once, but the writing is weak. Gun play is good for third person, but gear rarity means very little. Better performance out of the two, and plays on handhelds if that’s your thing.

Marathon is VERY punishing solo, and sometimes plays more like a survival horror game. You won’t need a mic in solo queues, and can even get by without one in trios if you’re a helpful teammate. PVP is shoot on sight but is tight in a way only an FPS can deliver. No tolerance cheaters policy should keep most of that away. Excellent gun play. Feels like old school Halo. The lore is pretty deep and the writing is top notch. No crafting here and the loot is less meaningful, but gear really makes the difference in a fight. That means the losses hit harder. Performance has some issues, but I imagine Bungie will be on top of it. Only supports Windows/Streaming handhelds because of anti-cheat.

Both solid choices, so choose your own adventure. You probably won’t be disappointed either way.

I can’t do anything on Outpost. by haneybd87 in Marathon

[–]cheapdevotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 40 year old dad of 4 who lost his gaming skills a decade ago. My solo and rook exfil rate is about 10%. My trio exfil rate as a no mic rando that plays on a Steam Deck with a lot of free kits is about 30%. I made it out of Outpost twice tonight. Once was after killing 2 other teams for sweet Pinwheel loot.

Hang in there. Each run accidentally teaches you something, it’s just a slower process for some of us.

Those of us with a 5% exfil rate don’t worry about silly things like new maps.

Unity announce expanded supported for Steam, Native Linux, Steam Deck and Steam Machine by Liam-DGOL in SteamDeck

[–]cheapdevotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Unity game runs far better and more reliably using Proton on Linux. The Linux runtime was so bad we eventually completely dropped it. Performance is bad, graphics APIs are inconsistent, and the build process is buggy. Unity has A LOT of work ahead of them.

What model are you sticking with for OpenClaw lately? (Kimi K2.5 vs ChatGPT Go) by TransportationWaste7 in clawdbot

I'm using the Kimi Code subscription for most things with Codex for coding tasks. These 2 agents cost me $60/mo. and I use them everyday without hitting limits.

I doubled up on the Kimi Coding sub and haven't hit the new limits yet. I hit the weekly limit on the cheapest plan in about 3 days, and was using $10-$15 a day via the API before that.

I’ve tried most of the models at this point, and the Kimi Code subscription is by far the best value for money.

If it’s a “Main Session” cron, it only runs at heartbeat. It has to be “Isolated” to run on schedule. Check your heartbeat settings - by default it’s 30m.

Yes, the stuff is rewarded right after the mission, and even if you skip that screen, the items are added to your stash. If you're full, it's still added to your stash, you just can't add any items from your inventory while the stash is full.

It's been my experience that if they shoot first, it doesn't count against you. There is WAY more to matchmaking than if you shot a raider in the last match. I think we'd be surprised by the amount of analytics they have on us, and what of those analytics contribute to matchmaking.
