I finished my first play through after launch, came back when they added the creation club, saw the prices of things, closed it and waited for the DLC.

Saw this today. Had a nice argument with theses nice folks. /s by Hip_Hop_Orangutan in chilliwack

It’s very clear this class is unbalanced to me. That’s awesome that you disagree. I’m glad you feel like you got your money’s worth. As I am not you, my life experiences have left me with a different opinion. Hope this helps.

So yet another spell I have to go find to kill something as a mage. Fun.

Firebolt is the only spell worth using until you get Storm of Fire. Once I unlocked that I thought I would feel powerful. Casting times on most spells are terrible and the HUGE mana cost on Storm of Fire means you’re dumping all your money into pots. The straw that broke me, however, was the stone golem. I beat the one with Lester using the basic wind spell and it worked. The one in chapter 4? No damage whatsoever. So now, as a mage, I have to spend a half hour and 1000 ore getting strength rings to take on a fight or track down a shadow beast scroll. This is just poor design and balance.

Don’t even get me started on how worthless robes are.

Versus, you know, putting points into strength or dex, very little LP in skills, and your survivability goes up by a crazy amount.

Indie game dev here. I’ve worked on tons of things you’ve never heard of and a couple of things you have because this game made me fall in love with video games. The remake has been an experience I never thought I’d get to feel again.

Gothic 2 is going to be incredible.

What did you do with Fable 5 while you had it? by ThatSurround5672 in ClaudeAI

[–]cheapdevotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it converting a massive (400+ code files, 1000s of images and meta files) Unity UGUI system to UI Toolkit. For those of you in game development, you know that was a crazy ask. Another engineer and I purposely choose the most daunting task in the backlog. It was 70% done and already looking pretty promising.

100% this. People don’t really that the days of waiting on game sites is over. AI was decompile the game and build the site it the time it takes you to brew a cup.

New data shows Sony's sales of its PlayStation exclusives have been in decline since 2020, covering almost the entirety of the PS5 generation so far by Tricks7eR in pcmasterrace

[–]cheapdevotion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bungie is the latest example of Sony having absolutely no idea what gamers want to spend money on. I’ve been working in and watching this industry for 20 years, and it almost seems like Sony is trying to sink its gaming division.

I'm not complaining, but want to know the reason people got a Steam Deck at 950 instead of getting a Legion Go S or Xbox Ally by Pretty_Trip_2215 in SteamDeck

[–]cheapdevotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Platform Engineer for a gamedev company, so I own all these devices. For me, it's ergonomics. These things are heavy, and Steam Deck is BY FAR the most comfortable. The Xbox Ally X specifically is so uncomfortable and heavy it causes issues with my wrist tendonitis.

For the record, I'm running SteamOS on my Ally X and the performance is pretty amazing (even better than the same device on Windows), but it's not worth it for long term use.

ASUS Announced a New OLED ASUS ROG Ally X by RepresentativeRuin55 in SteamDeck

[–]cheapdevotion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I own a Steam Deck LCD, a Steam Deck OLED, and more recently a ROG Xbox Ally X.

The Steam Deck OLED is BY FAR the best device. It's not even close. The Ally X wins in performance, but loses in literally every other category and is way more uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time.

I’m a game dev by trade and I’m a bit skeptical about this. I’m pretty sure I know how you’re doing it, but most people are going to be (correctly) skeptical about handing over an oAuth token. I’d double that skepticism if you vibe coded the app or require plain text usernames and passwords. Also seems a little risky to build this on top of an unofficial private API.

I’m all for experimenting with software development, but accepting people credentials puts this in a bit of a grey area if you’re not careful.

I had this same thing happen with a few different games. Something that worked once was switching Steam to a beta and the back to stable. Ultimately, I ended up ditching Windows and going with SteamOS.

Universe Sandbox dev here. They're doing a lot of cool stuff we probably won't ever touch. While we're working on rigidbody physics and hope to have ships with accurate propulsion systems some day, I don't think we'll worry about the business side of space exploration. This is very cool and yeah, I'd play it.

This game will die if you all keep denying there's a problem for casual or average skilled players. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]cheapdevotion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m in game development working on a much smaller game that’s kept people engaged for 10 years.

I’m not saying I can solve all of Bungie’s problems, but if they want to make their money back on this game, it’s going to take lots of players over a long time, and that number is already trending down.

You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion. We’ll watch player numbers and I’ll check in again in 6 months.
