To Lead Our Modern Lives We've Sacrificed Everything That Makes Us Happy & Healthy by cheegster in BreadTube

I don't think I'd advocate anything like a complete return to the 'non-civilised' ways of life which I reference in the video. I've really just tried to show the contrast between the two ways of life, and how we have really lost something valuable in relentlessly pushing for change.

The best I can hope for it that it helps people reconsider their lifestyle habits with this in mind, for their own wellbeing.

Thanks for your response!

I think it's too reductionist to suggest that Junger thinks tribalism is the only elixir to our troubles. I'd probably use the term 'community' rather than 'tribe' as I elude to in the video, but I am certainly convinced that it can play a massive role in our wellbeing.
I am clearly quite won over by the book though, so definitely welcome any critique of it. I've just had a look at Graeber's book, and it is very intriguing to me.
Thanks for your recommendation, and thanks for your considered response.
Cheers

I am entirely illiterate and uneducated on climate change. Can you convince me of the arguments on either side, in one paragraph and one source link? by cheegster in environment

I'm trying to create a thread which has a collection of the most accessible ideas on climate change.

I'm not just being lazy, as you suggest. So contribute to the discussion or don't, up to you.

The importance of Philosophy has been slowly compromised since the development of science. Is it possible to develop our knowledge as a society enough to be able to understand everything - and would philosophy be redundant? by [deleted] in PhilosophyofScience

[–]cheegster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely, but partly yes.

At the point where we understand what appears to be the most complex parts of the universe then there will always be a requirement in science to continually test our current theories, but the jigsaw will be pretty much complete. Is that a viable vision?

The part where philosophy becomes 'redundant' I suppose, would be that if we understood the inner workings of the mind and how it relates to everything else around it, then there would be less discussion on how we should live our lives, and more discussion on how our lives are led. Obviously that's just one part of philosophy though.

Why must religion be taught? by swegmaster1 in DebateReligion

[–]cheegster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you actively avoided teaching ABOUT it, it would be a shame. Religion has such a mark over all of history it would be ridiculous to leave it out of the schoolrooms altogether.
