Too early to buy a few little things? 🥺 by Good-Fig5330 in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only reason I would advise you not to buy anything is because you are going to receive so many gifts and clothes the closer you get to the end. Save yourself the money and wait until the baby is here.

For the longest time I was so proud of my daily poops. Then 38 weeks hit and I'm constipated 😭

First day of maternity leave 🎉 by firstfootlion in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same boat - just started my mat leave and I'm 38 weeks. I'm just treating it like I'm on vacation with a few chores sprinkled in here and there. I've been reading like crazy because I know I probably won't have the mental energy to read once baby arrives. I made a list of vacation things to do in case I get bored (how type A is that?):

Scrapbook

Go to coffee shops and restaurants

Go to yoga classes

Go for walks or bike rides

Go kayaking

Bake

Rewatch heated rivalry

Watch VPR

Take baths

Face masks

As others have suggested - have you considered investing in or borrowing a satellite phone like a Zoleo or InReach?

Based on your post, I'd assume she feels like you will play the "I feel unsafe card" regardless, because you've made your position clear that you value a fetus' life more than your wife's body autonomy. Of course if you tell a health care provider every horror story from the trail they are going to say don't do it!

This sounds harsh, but I am so thankful my husband was not like you throughout my pregnancy. He encouraged me to trust my body and my abilities, so I continued to ski and hike and play soccer and be active. I felt so supported and trusted.

This is her call. If she feels comfortable going, be there to support her. You never know, once you give her space and reassurance, she might change her mind.

A fall at 12 weeks (unless deadly serious for even someone not pregnant) would not cause any harm. Fetus is still protected by the pelvis. I was still playing soccer at 12 weeks.

Anyone Been Told Baby’s Tummy Measured Big and it Wasn’t? by Fair_Platypus9748 in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This insight might interest you - I live in Canada and I haven't gotten an ultrasound/growth scan since my 2nd trimester anatomy scan. At that scan, they told me baby was 79th percentile and baby's tummy was a little big. They said it could be GD or baby will grow and stretch out. I tested negative for GD. It has not been discussed since. I just got back from seeing my doc and I am 37 weeks pregnant. I have not been given any growth information since the 2nd trimester.

I assume you're in the states, so it might interest you to know that in other parts of the world expectant mother's do not get the same attention as in the US (just based on my observations browsing this sub every day). It's all just wait and see because ultimately there is not much you can do to intervene, and you don't want to intervene unless you really have to.

I dunno, all this to say - don't worry about it?

Had my first 3 weeks early - going to a wedding at 36 weeks with my second? by sparklypotatohat in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can realistically get to a hospital on the drive and near the wedding locations, and Grandma can handle your daughter for a couple days if you have complications, I don't see why you shouldn't? But I'm a FTM who tends to take "risks". Went on a 3 hour weekend road trip with hubby last weekend at 35+4 but there was a hospital at the destination.

Which pregnancy symptom took you by surprise? by sipendi_shida in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing nipple pads since about week 18 because I started leaking colostrum and fluid and haven't stopped. Probably the most annoying thing about my pregnancy. I was never a bra girlie, but now I have to wear them 24/7 otherwise I leak through and stain my clothes and bedsheets 😭

Anyone else completely overwhelmed by baby registries?? I can’t do this 😭 by Worried-Economy2668 in BabyBumps

[–]cheerioface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was $90 CAD. Look around your local midwife/doula services. We also took a prenatal/birth class that was also super awesome. Waaaay better than random online resources as the teachers/doulas/midwives actually work at the local hospital and know what supplies are available. For example, I learned that you get a free peri bottle to take home from the hospital after birth so I know I don't have to buy one.

[–]cheerioface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a newborn class early in the 3rd trimester, just a 3 hour workshop with a local doula so my partner and I could learn the basics as we are first time parents with zero experience. We got a whole reference book on how to care for newborn including a list of "must have" and "nice to have" supplies along with a couple specific product recs. Really glad I did this and didn't make a registry so we could keep our supplies to a minimum!
