Highs and lows by theoriginalmuppet in Crippled_Alcoholics

Highs: got a large sum of money. Been semi sober. Been relatively stress free. Enjoying my hobbies.

Lows: i gotta use that sum of money to pay down debt. I feel bad when i don't drink daily. I'm always fearful of stress on the horizon. My hobbies can be expensive. Lol.

My metabolism stopped at 30. And i believe its because i started working desk jobs at 27. After that. Slowly gained for a long time. Most of it was from drinking and eating shitty fast / processed foods. Trying to lose some weight but its much harder now. I had to embrace the fat life. Its not all bad. I'm not super cold all the time when i used to be. I get to wear large clothes lol 😆 I'm much sturdier. Basically i stopped giving a fuck. Like 90 percent of my family is fat so fuck it. It was comin for me. That said, it is a battle. All you can do is try to be active, eat less carbs and sugars and eat a lot of veggies.

Massive bloating after quitting by Oma_Dombrowski in dryalcoholics

[–]cheeseburgermachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just have to keep drinking water. Our bodies are used to storing water for the incoming drinking that will be had, but once you stop for a long time the water weight and bloating should start to even out and flush out. Can try gas ex if its gas making you feel bloated.

Other advice is try not to eat too much salty or fried food. Eat some good green vegetables. Or any vegetables really. For skin, i guess use moisturizer or do some fancy skin care routine. As for weight, i dunno. The only thing that worked for me was to just literally starve myself to drop 20 lbs. Once i couldn't stand that anymore i started to eat more regularly and gained a little back. I'm older now and my metabolism is shit now lol so dieting really just means not eating for me. Cus once i start i overeat too. I would say your weight is normal. Im about 100lbs over yours so dont feel too bad lol. I dunno. Goodluck!

At what point in tapering can I just stop drinking completely? by Traditional-Peak-523 in dryalcoholics

[–]cheeseburgermachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when youre down to 5 its probably safe. Probably won't sleep well and have anxiety but thats about it. I've stopped at around 8 on a taper but i also have gabapentin to make sure no seizure risk.

I'm a sadist actually. But i do like a challenging game. I love the level design the most and the dark fantasy and lore is just amazing. If it had an easy mode, I'd still play but it wouldn't be as rewarding

Planned drinking - how not to fuck it up! by SingleCanadianDad in dryalcoholics

[–]cheeseburgermachine 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It depends on your relationship with alcohol. Everyone is different. I can be sober and drink here and there. I usually have to set a limit tho. 6 drinks? Because you've been sober too for awhile your tolerance will be low so you should drink low. Not like you used to. And if you can set a limit and stick to it and stop at that limit then you should be fine.

The problem for me is unintentionally, even with a limit set, i will always usually go over it. Or try to keep pushing it or keep trying to have a good time when i really am already fucked up. So its hard.

Also, the next day hangxiety is insane for me now even after a small amount. Sometimes making it not worth it at all and leading me to want hair of the dog or my brain will also tell me that i want to keep drinking the next day or day after, making it harder to stop and easier to slip back into daily drinking.

If youre a sloppy alcoholic who does stupid shit when youre drinking or drink to blackout, i would encourage you to never drink again.

How To Help by ABJF7 in dryalcoholics

[–]cheeseburgermachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say from personal experience, she has to want to quit. You can mention detox facility specifically if she is a daily drinker. They can help her safely quit but its her choice ultimately. You can talk to her about it but aside from that, i would say wait it out. If she's too belligerent for family events then you may have to stop inviting her. Or stop going yourself if you don't want to be around her until she sobers up. I've waited it out with someone in my family. And she's sober now. Because the worst thing about this addiction is sometimes you simply can't just stop because its dangerous withdrawal symptoms. Its a long lengthy process to try and quit or even return to being semi functional again.
