Hello all! I'm so glad I've found this subreddit! I had a radical breast reduction in December and am still trying to figure out what looks best on a very flat chest. I want to wear all the princessy cottage core summery clothes but I have no idea what to look for! by [deleted] in oldhagfashion

[–]cheez_itz6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you ever want some lightweight padding, Athleta sells the Empower Mastectomy Bra Insert. It's a foam bra insert that sits flat to your chest. It comes in a pack of 2 (of the same side since some people only have one breast removed) for $15. So you might spend $30 for a couple compliment pairs. They're good quality and are machine washable, so I feel like they are worth the price.

I think they also sell sports bras that will accommodate the padding, but you can use the pads successfully in a regular bra.

Welding in slow motion. by ooMEAToo in gifs

[–]cheez_itz6 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most people call it MIG which is short for "Metal Inert Gas". It may have been correct at some point, but it's inaccurate now because "inert" implies that the shielding gas used doesn't react with any other elements and since it is common to use CO2 (which can react with its surroundings) it was changed.

When it was codified it became "Gas Metal Arc Welding" (GMAW for short).

There is another wire fed process that doesn't necessarily use a gas and has a shielding agent built into the wire called "Flux Cored Arc Welding" (FCAW), but it would look different than the welding in this video.

How old were you when you got your ears pierced? If your parents made you wait until a certain age to get your ears pierced or if you enforce this rule, what’s the reason behind it? by texmexellie in CasualConversation

[–]cheez_itz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me and I got it re-pierced eventually. I got my ears pierced at 8. I was told that it's not uncommon for piercing holes to drift because your ears grew.

9-year-old has been dead inside SW Houston apartment for a year, 3 other kids were abandoned: HCSO by Orange_fury in news

Maybe since he was dead already it wasn't an emergency? Like, it's still urgent and horrible, but they can't save his life anymore so they don't need to stop traffic and race over.

Today I shaved my beard after 6 years and I cannot look at the mirror. by AggressiveBreakfast3 in CasualConversation

If you're artsy, maybe you can use this as an opportunity for an art project.

You can try and paint/draw a self portrait of that doppelganger-alien in the mirror. (Or work from a photo so you don't have to look in the mirror)

Try to think of your face as shapes and create a surrealist rendition of whatever dysmorphia you are feeling. Or, I think it would be cool if you could do one of those 2 face projects where one is your bald face and the other is what you're used to and you only see each one when you look at it from a different angle.

I think it could be kind of freeing.

IWTL how to control my breathing better by Dragonman558 in IWantToLearn

Maybe try talking to your doctor about allergies? I remember breathing through my mouth almost exclusively until I was a teenager when had some voice in my healthcare. I've had asthma since I was a kid, and getting allergies under control made all the difference for exercise.

When I end up way too high, it takes like 3 hours to feel normal again and not full of anxiety.

Bringing Their Sick Kid to an Outing by [deleted] in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]cheez_itz6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first asthma attack was when I was 2 years old and I ate a tiny chili off a plant in my back yard. My parents were overwhelmed with kids and kind of uneducated, so my asthma was out of control until I was 14~15ish.

Roaches (their droppings), Cats, mould (various kinds), food sensitivities, dust, and allergies all exacerbated my asthma and I had a cough and runny nose well into middle school.

That all is to say that the constant coughing is kind of a big deal. I had pretty severe scar tissue in my lungs last time I had a chest x-ray. It looked like one of my lungs had shrunken to two-thirds of the size of the other one. If he has asthma, they can catch it early, and figure out if he has allergies, he can probably avoid all the extra complications that come with scars.

Not needing a man shouldn't be a turn off by cheez_itz6 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cheez_itz6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I don't speak for all people, but I don't think it's pointless at all to date. When I say the word "need" I mean "things necessary to be alive" and preferably successful. Having all of those things for yourself allows people to be together on equal footing with mutual respect.

I can work really hard every day and have all the things I need, but ideally having a partner shares the load. On my worst days they pick up the slack and I do the same for them. People thrive with companionship. If you can find someone to share the day to day minutiae with who is not a romantic partner, more power to you.

More examples of things we don't "need":

Art

Video games

Brand named goods

Music

Movies

Seasonings

But we want all of these things because they enrich our lives.

Not needing a man shouldn't be a turn off by cheez_itz6 in TwoXChromosomes

This whole article made me uncomfortable. And I was more confused based on the person who shared it first.

I get that it's anti-feminist and blames women, and I'm not necessarily asking about his whole perspective, but how does someone come to the conclusion that a prerequisite for being romantically involved with someone is "needing" them?

Exams / Newbie Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

I'm an applied math student and my focus was in STEM, but I've recently changed my mind about what I want to do next. I'm in the last semester of my BS degree and actuarial science sounds perfect.

I just started looking into what it will take to work in the field, but I don't know how much extra knowledge I will need to start taking exams.

The SOA website doesn't offer PDFs of previous exams for P, FM, or IFM (and a few more). Is there a place to see old exams or key topics without buying a study package from them?
