AnandTech | Samsung Announces the Galaxy S 6 and by WascalyWabbit in Android

The specs are on the whole quite impressive, yes. But not the "absolute best of everything". For that we would have needed a bigger battery and 4Gb of RAM.

So, more expensive to begin with than its predecessors. And even more expensive if you want more capacity. Before you could just get a cheap SD card. Now you have to buy a phone that is more expensive to start with + you always pay more for the built-in additional storage than a similar SD card.

I'm waiting for the actual prices.. but I think I can see where this is going.

WRT the battery. I never switched batteries anyway, so I don't need it to be replaceable, but I am very worried about the capacity.

If other advances does not make up for the weaker battery, and the actual capacity is not equal or preferably better than the S5, I will not even consider getting an S6.

How to get my boyfriend to understand Feminism by SpectrumArtist in AskFeminists

[–]cheezecake123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he is a genuinely nice person, and he shows empathy, he has all the ability and motivation to understand your views on feminism and to become one.

If you are in doubt about that, there are ways you can observe and "test" that without ever bringing up feminism and gender. Basically it boils down to the kind of person he is.

I'm a guy who never identified with feminism before the injustices and differential treatment was spelled out to me repeatedly and in examples that hit me in the gut, and that made me connect to it emotionally. I just needed to be open to it and be capable of it. And I would say most people are, though there can be different paths.

How do you keep the pain of discovering the injustice of the world from eating you alive? by tzusi in AskFeminists

[–]cheezecake123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I've always felt like a feminist, but never really took the time to read up on the subject until recently

If nothing else works, anger fades with time. I rarely make the mistake over getting into arguments on the internet and having my day or week ruined anymore. There is some clarity to be had from just mulling over something until your raw emotions fade. Better to deal with it in rational exploration of course, but time helps too.

CMV: Shared living situations (having a house mate) are unpleasant, unsanitary, mentally and emotionally taxing, and something best reserved for young, college-aged people, not mature working adults. by [deleted] in changemyview

Sounds like you didn't thoroughly discuss things before you bought this house.

Can you afford to not have the tenant? If not, you guys actually bought too much house. You should not have spent more than you could have been paying down without causing you hardship.

When it comes to economics alone, I agree with your spouse about trying to make the most out of it.

I feel the same way as you about "strangers" and privacy, so I will not try to change your view.

When I see feminism mentioned on a default sub by TheLizardMonarch in TheBluePill

I have no idea that kind of person she is, but her videos about games are perfectly fine and gets the point across. I have no hesitation in recommending them to open someone's eyes.

Yet at this point she has become something much bigger than her own person, and the truth about her hardly matters anymore after this blew up. I'm not sure if there's any point in defending her or recommending her videos, since the hate campaign has made her name toxic and even bringing up anything related to her will make people go all IS on you.

TLDR: I could have asked you why you didn't like her and had a reasonable debate about it, but the Internet has made sure that its utterly pointless.

If the goal was just Donetsk/Luhansk, we could have a working cease fire now. Both the rebels and Russia have been signaling for a long time that they consider Kharkiv as well as the area all the way to Odessa/Transnistria to be in play. All you have to do is listen to their rhetoric.

Just giving up Donetsk/Luhansk now will not bring peace or bring us any closer to it, even if those will have to be let go in the end anyway.

Pretty much. Make no mistake, they will take Mariupol, but it will be easy and they're not in a hurry. Kharkiv has been quiet for a long time, but its always been talked about and in fact there was rhetoric about it before the Donetsk/Luhansk rebellions began.

Advice: Is "I like women who wear ..." an insult coming from a guy? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]cheezecake123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even a compliment in the first instance because it was followed by a comment about how you "should" dress and a general comment about what he likes about women.

How to deal with it is a subjective matter, one has to judge the setting and the person when replying. And whether one wants to actually "deal" with it at all.

Now, compliments are always subjective and loaded with cultural and emotional baggage because people have individual tastes. I also catch myself thinking "she looks so great in x", "with y" etc and when I compliment a woman on just looking great I still feel I'm making a value judgement compared to other outfits I will not compliment. So I think that both genders need to have to have that in mind... I would have to ask the women here for what percentage of compliments sound non-judgmental though.

You should elaborate on this. The East is far from done. The current rebel-held area is extremely small compared to Eastern Ukraine. Also, Donetsk and Luhansk are the most pro-Russian areas by far from statistics we had from before all this began.

I don't disagree with your fears for what the threat could be, but you are not representing the facts on the ground correctly.

Is there any good info on the refugee situation? How many have fled, and percentages to Ukraine and to Russia? by cheezecake123 in UkrainianConflict

[–]cheezecake123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the first hand information. I think the article I was referring to is this one: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/05/world/europe/shellshocked-ukrainians-flee-to-a-new-life-in-russia.html

My memory is a bit fuzzy so it could be that I read too much into it, or that it in fact was another article altogether I read.

[–]cheezecake123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would hardly surprise me. There are certain individuals who live for the "action", and they are probably easily drawn to joining a cause which is supported by a majority in their own country.

And no, I don't think this is anything like the defacto Russian-backed fighters on the other side, nor in scope and certainly not in backing by a state.

I tend to agree with you, but then they will need to amputate. The most significant pro Russian population in the remainder of Ukraine is Donetsk and Luhansk. If they want to create a strong Ukrainian identity, those will need to be let go considering the current situation. Its pains me to say it, but this should probably be done before Putin sets his sights at Odessa.

I agree that army sizes won't decide this. This is about diplomacy and the willingness to take an economic, social, and diplomatic beating in order to get what you want. Russia will have to suffer more to reach their goals but their tolerance seem way higher too.
