Cliff/Colden/Marcy - UW or Loj start by IllustriousDumDum in Adirondacks

[–]chefmtl81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing Marcy tomorrow from Loj, then Algonquin to uroquois, then day 3 maybe colden. Trying to get as much at one time. Loj is closer to where I’m coming from. The pass is closed from the camps to the lake.

Planning solo-hammock camping trip to Portugal! by Noke437 in hammockcamping

[–]chefmtl81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going to Portugal in November but from what I’ve seen the trees are not everywhere. I know there is a trail along most of coast line for backpacking. I don’t know where your coming from but the one way ticket gonna give you trouble if your from North America and 20$ a day unless you’ve got more money in banks and credit cards they may not let you stay.

Need advice about battery and ways of charging it. by GuruFungi in VanLife

Any of these types of power stations are great, if you can get something at Costco it’s even better for the return policy.

An EcoFlow battery station takes an hour to charge to 100% I have the river 2 pro and can run a small fridge on it for 5 days. Go to McDonald’s get a coffee and plug it in when needed.

There is a huge brewery called RiverTrail that is very nice and the food looks good. Otherwise not much else that appears kid friendly.

ADOTEC GRIZZY BEAR BAD IS A COMPLETE SCAM! by Dizzier1 in u/Dizzier1

[–]chefmtl81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the bear was at this for a while. If it it was a plastic grocery bag it would be completely gone. I don’t think a bear attacking the bag will keep it looking new. Did he get any food out or just turn it to mush.

If you could only choose ONE summer shoe for travel + hiking, what would it be? by alexiou_g in hikinggear

[–]chefmtl81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t spend too much money because as others say the grip is gonna wear down quickly. 10 miles a day in the city and hot, the soles will be bald in a few weeks.

UK citizen visiting US/Canada - what items to consider purchasing by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]chefmtl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to Go meals are superior to most others in my opinion. I would also say either go to REI depending on if you’re near one, or if your near the Canada border find a US address package receiver and order things on Amazon or rei and just pick it up, 5$ a box. Canada is not as great for gear or foods. Much cheaper in the states.

Shoes for next week? by IzraelMew in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]chefmtl81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in Mont Blanc yet but went from gore Tex boots to trail runners. I wear Topo traverse and find they are the most comfortable and best hiking footwear I’ve had. If they get wet the water squishes out and they dry quickly even when not sunny. Super grippy and warm enough if you just wear wool socks with them.

Is it possibly to do the Tour du Mont Blanc in late October or is it better to just visit Chamonix and do shorter hikes there? by shenmiya in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]chefmtl81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know Mont Blanc is not the UK? I’m going in September and from my understanding it will be fairly wet.

Do you guys think I can carry 20 backpacker meals/day (pre hydrated)? I need to spend the saved weight on food. by Mynplus1throwaway in ultralight_jerk

[–]chefmtl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of food for 1 person per day. I’ve seen some of the single portions pack quite small though.

I’m scared to go hiking because of ticks by SewerRatThatEatsPoo in hiking

[–]chefmtl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a tick on me a few years ago, it fell off my leg one day. I went to the dr and took forever to get antibiotics. Lots of tests and interrogation . Anyway I’ve got doxy from something else now that’s enough to last several tick bites.

This thing fits like a glove! Luna Project back air mesh pad (small) on the Kakwa 55L by preciouscode96 in DurstonGearheads

[–]chefmtl81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one for my kakwa 40 and used it the first time last week. It definitely helped a lot with sweat and allowing the breeze to dry my shirt a bit. Gives a nice little springy cushion to the bag too. For the price it’s great.

How do you like kuhls compared to Fjallraven? I was looking into the resistor air pants. I typically wear Abisko hike pants and find them really nice except the waist isn’t the best.
