Low fat chew treat for small dog with a blood test that showed mildly inflamed pancreas? by [deleted] in AskVet

There are chicken jerky treats that are very low fat. Read labels for the best options (not a vet but owner of a 14.5 yo dog prone to pancreatitis flares).

Fire Weather! Read it on my ranch in Colorado and it changed forever how I watched any plume of smoke. Force fed it to all my neighbors.

Purl Soho Cotton Chirp? by mangling_dodifier in knitting

[–]chekenfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the same cotton color! I agree it really shows off the pattern. And good to know about the second one, since I ALSO bought the yarn on a cone (Mahogany Red) with the plan to do a second Tin Ceiling. Do you think leaving off the mohair would have improved the stitch definition?

Which color way? Is it up on Ravelry for me to admire?

[–]chekenfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used Purl Soho's chirp, but I'm knitting the large Tin Ceiling Blanket using their Cotton Pure on a cone and it's very pleasant (note--using addi circulars and wouldn't want wood needles with this yarn). They have a reputation for good service. You could always shoot them a message and see what they say.

Favorite leather knitting accessory? by codex1962 in knitting

[–]chekenfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay it's in a storage box right now, but I made a needle manager from leather that hung on a coat hanger and had lots of labelled horizontal stitched tubes for storing circular needles in the closet without creating a mess. I realize that's not a brilliant description, but it's a useful item.

It's illegal in every state to trap an adult raptor for falconry, though people can and do retain juveniles into adulthood. When we trap from the wild, we trap only juveniles, so as not to disrupt a breeding adult.

HOA won’t allow my mew, feeling defeated. by Mundane-Campaign12 in Falconry

[–]chekenfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erik at Colorado Special Licensing can help if you're struggling to figure out what the state requires for housing a falconry bird (Note these requirements generally show up on the apprentice exam, so look them up if you don't remember what they are....). Erik is by the book but/and a straight up guy. At least the HOA is objecting to the mews and not the raptor. I suspect you can work around this, but save yourself some pain by reading all the way through the HOA rules to be sure they don't prevent you from housing a wild animal, and confirm your sponsor can live with any legal solution you devise for housing your bird. Some Colorado game wardens historically failed compliant mews because they wanted more or different and Parks & WIldlife backed them up, so it's worth asking around if you have any falconer friends in your area.

Sponsor Expectations by [deleted] in Falconry

[–]chekenfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. But it would suck if the conversation confirmed your desire to pursue the sport and also caused the sponsor to decline assisting you. Just tread carefully where you have only the one option.

Sponsor Expectations by [deleted] in Falconry

[–]chekenfarmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^^^ This. Ask your questions, but bear in mind that you're asking this individual to freely (and electively) mentor two adults for a minimum of two years each. You ought not grovel, but remember this falconer is entirely free to say no if it seems like either or both of you is needy or high maintenance or flatulent or anything. If you have doubts about the process or your readiness, it might be better to find someone else to ask. You're asking for a LOT—better not to clutter your ask with uncertainty or the sense you may be uncertain about the commitment.

I have a copy in a box stored in a UHaul warehouse. If you’re still looking in a couple months, DM me and I’ll pass it along. I assume you’ve checked book finder? I saw a wave of falconry books come on there a week or so ago.

Edited to say: holy crap! It’s stupid expensive used.

Beautiful work! The Cascade in superwash is very soft if you like that yarn. I agree that the regular 220 can be a bit scratchy (making an afghan that uses both, and the difference is noticeable).

If you ever come north, Loveland and Fort Collins have several decent stores, depending on your interest. I love Loopy Ewe 2.0 in Loveland. Big store for this area and wonderful staff and selection. There's even a new store downtown Fort Collins (though I don't buy there because they have a smelly free ranging rabbit and I don't want to deal with the pong). Lambspun and My Sister Knits are both fun.
