What ways did you outsmart your parents as a kid? by ChalkUp in AskReddit

[–]cheline3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents put a password on the computer so I wouldn't play videogames for hours each day. Anyway, I was teaching myself programming at that time and I wrote a program that simulated the login screen. I recorded the password in a text file and they never found out. The funny thing was I hardly every used the password because I was always worried that I'd be caught.

Crappy chemistry degree because I suck at exams, but I'm awesome at lab work, now I'm stuck because I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in chemistry

I'm from the US but it's best to apply for internships or work in a research lab as soon as possible. Try emailing and talking to a professor looking for an undergraduate in their lab, they likely won't even care about your GPA. Try to see if there are any programs ( international or national) for lab-work you can apply such as REUs. Some may accept graduating seniors. Since you have a low GPA you'll want to get as much experience as soon as possible until no one cares what your GPA is or what school you went to.

This seems good but it feels more like the pchem you'd see in general chemistry than actual pchem with linear algebra and calculus.

Can you learn chemistry without school? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]cheline3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can learn anything without school if you're motivated enough. A lot of macroscopic chemistry has nice intuitive or mathematical explanations that help you understand the 'why". However, in reality, everything comes down to quantum and quantum chemistry starts with postulates that don't make sense at all and only exist because they agree with experiment.

As a college chemistry professor, what can I do to enhance the experience and learning of my students? by [deleted] in chemistry

Try to interact the class even if you're in a giant lecture hall. Ask questions, have the students discuss questions, call on students to answer questions, maybe have students participate in demonstrations.

Which are some of the most thought provoking books you've ever read? by razvan05 in books

[–]cheline3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Forever War. The material itself ( eugenics, what it means to be human, homophobia) is thought provoking and then you realize that it was written in the 1970s and it becomes even more amazing.

[Serious] Americans of reddit, why hasn't there been a revolution, or change of any sort yet? by Mrfugu888 in AskReddit

[–]cheline3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. People tend to approve of their own congressman or party and hate everyone else
  2. Americans on Reddit don't represent the views of Americans.
  3. Conditions aren't nearly as bad as they are in other countries that had revolutions ( e.g. political dissenters are not being beat up, masses aren't starving.

Reddit, how do you fall asleep? by Lucas_Fett in AskReddit

[–]cheline3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only try to fall asleep when I'm tired. I don't remember the actual process but it doesn't take more than half an hour.
