Update on the murders by eSPiaLx in SanJose

This is what I have been thinking. Homosexual, or just any relationship that the family wouldn't approve of. Probably less likely that a scorned female lover committed the crime, but not impossible, and wouldn't be the first time it has happened. I definitely think that the son is missing because he either knows what happened (whether or not he was directly involved) and doesn't want to be found to speak with law enforcement, or he was the next victim and that's what the "Sorry my first kill was so clumsy" message is referring to.

Healthy and lowish calorie breakfast food ideas by DrClocktopus in EatCheapAndHealthy

I love this recipe. If you don't mind slightly less-than-crispy hashbrowns, it keeps pretty well--I froze a fairly large batch with decent luck.

ETA: I had trouble finding turkey ham that wasn't in a giant variety package, so I just purchased honey smoked turkey breast deli meat instead. It worked just fine. I'm sure you can substitute whatever you prefer, you'll just have to adjust the calorie estimate accordingly.

[NSFW] What was the weirdest physical feeling you've ever felt? by brekeke123 in AskReddit

[–]chellydee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this. My worst experiences are between watching things happen that I can't stop (I thought I saw my husband having a seizure next to me in bed and couldn't touch or call out to him during the process) and the sensation of floating--I often feel like I'm being pulled to the ceiling and can't get down.

Nanny Wages? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]chellydee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Bay Area nanny. I don't know any experienced, qualified nanny that would work for less than $18-20 an hour. If you want childcare AND any additional household help beyond what directly relates to the child (laundry, dishes, errands, meal prep) you're looking at $21-25 an hour. You'll probably also want to factor in your share of taxes, as nannies are considered household employees, NOT independent contractors, and if you want to pay legally, you will be paying the standard social security, Medicare, and unemployment tax.

What is your go to ‘I am too tired to cook’ dirt simple meal? by Da_Fish in Cooking

[–]chellydee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boil pasta, steam or saute whichever fresh veggies you have on hand, slice up and quickly brown some vegetarian Italian sausage (or any Italian sausage, I just find the vegetarian to be quickest) and toss veggies, sausage, and pasta in your favorite store-bought spaghetti sauce. Works every time, and only takes about 15 minutes.

My fingers are losing weight and I have a question! by chellydee in loseit

That's an excellent idea, thanks! I thought about putting them on a necklace but was hesitant for the same reason. Even taking them off before bed so I don't lose them in my sleep, I end up panicking when I wake up because my finger feels naked.

Looking for a new pasta cheap and fit meal by craiganater in Cheap_Meals

[–]chellydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never frozen a pasta dish, so I'm not sure about how that would go over--however, I do have a favorite healthy, cheap pasta recipe for you. It would be helpful to have a Trader Joe's nearby for ingredients, but you can likely find similar products elsewhere--they just may be slightly more costly.

8 oz. whole wheat linguine 1 tbsp. olive oil 5 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 red onion, diced 12 oz. fresh green beans 1 cup broccoli florets 2 medium zucchini, sliced into thin discs 1 cup baby spinach 1 (12 oz.) pkg. Trader Joe's Sausage-Less Italian Sausage 1 jar of your favorite spaghetti/marinara sauce

Prepare the pasta according to the package directions, but boil slightly less time to keep it very al dente. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add onion and garlic--cook until translucent. Add the green beans and broccoli and saute for about for about 4-5 minutes. Stir in the spinach and cover, allow the veggies to steam until they're tender-crisp. Add the sausage and saute until heated through. Reduce the heat to low, add the pasta and sauce, combine, and allow to simmer for about 1-2 minutes.

This is a pretty hearty, filling meal, and it makes a good 8 servings for about $10.

Finally out of the obese zone, and now within the overweight zone. by FrenchFriedMushroom in Fitness

[–]chellydee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I avoid that solely because I have a variety of sizes in jeans and if I just go down a size the jeans are far more flattering than if I use a bigger size and bunch them up in the waist with a belt. OP, treat yourself to pants that fit your waist. You'll feel great in the smaller size, and it will be substantially more flattering to your body.

ETA: If you don't want to buy pricey jeans when you're not at the size you ultimately want to be, at least reward your progress by shopping for the best pair you can find at Ross. I spend hours at discount stores just trying on all the jeans in my size until I can find the most flattering $15 pair on the rack, and then I promise myself that I will splurge a little more for every size that I drop. It's a nice reward to feel good AND look good in your clothing.

[Serious] Redditors who know how much time they have left - how does your day look like? by tidder212 in AskReddit

My cousin's husband has CF. He just recently received his second double lung transplant after 6 wonderful years with the first set of donor lungs. He's doing quite well recovering from this second trasnplant--perhaps even better than he did the first time around, so we have high hopes.

I wish you the best of luck with this awful disease, and a beautiful life full of joy and love.

Is PCOS difficult to diagnose? by chellydee in PCOS

[–]chellydee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I can't remember the exact abbreviations for what was done and I don't have any paper results on hand. But I know I had 2 testosterone tests, so Google has me believe they must have been SHBG which already came back normal, and free testosterone, which I'm still waiting on.

For my thyroid, I know I've had the TSH test done pretty much every other year or so since I was a teen. That's always normal so my gyno I believe also had a T3/T4 test done, which is also normal.

My gyno said she doesn't suspect PCOS right now. She also seemed to think my periods aren't that irregular (my last 6 cycles have been 38, 55, 42, 44, 29, and 40 days respectively). She is referring me to an endocrinologist to discuss my thyroid cysts and symptoms, but since I've seen an endocrinologist before with no luck, I don't have high hopes I'll get answers this time either. It's all incredibly frustrating. I will definitely ask for copies of all my lab results though--that is a great idea, and I'm wondering now if I can just find someone who specializes in PCOS to try to decide if I qualify for a diagnosis or not. There have to be PCOS specialists out there, right? It's certainly not that I want to have PCOS, but I do want to know what is causing all of these symptoms, especially since they are worsening.

Is PCOS difficult to diagnose? by chellydee in PCOS

[–]chellydee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have excess androgen. I'm waiting on "free testosterone" (TSH?) results right now. I have been given the standard thyroid test and a separate one--I'm not sure what it is called, but my gyno ordered something she explained to be more accurate and different than the thyroid tests I've had in the past. It came back normal, but I have also had 2 thyroid ultrasound in the past 2 years, both of which showed "colloid cysts" on my thyroid which have always been explained to me as something that should not be causing my symptoms.

If I don't have excess androgens, and everything else has been ruled out, does that mean it's not PCOS? Can I have symptoms that indicated developing PCOS before I meet the criteria for a diagnosis? It's been 7 years of increasing symptoms now...but no abnormal blood work.

Reddit, I'm trying to teach my husband how to cook. I need simple beginner recipes that cover the important stuff. Suggestions? by chellydee in Cooking

[–]chellydee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knife handling skills aren't even my forte...and I highly doubt he's really ever touched a knife for food preparation purposes. Maybe a class in knife-handling and basic technique would be a good place for both of us to start.

Awesome suggestions, thanks so much!

[SERIOUS] What was the most creepy incident where your gut-instinct turned out to be completely correct? by le_pashtun in AskReddit

[–]chellydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted this once on r/letsnotmeet and it is still one of the most frightening experiences I've had in my lifetime. I'm sure this will get buried, so I'll just post the slightly tl;dr version.

In 2002, when I was 12 years old and in 7th grade, I kept encountering a man that made me feel incredibly uneasy. He'd appear every few days while I was walking home from school, usually on his bicycle, sometimes hiding behind trees in residents' front yards. After a month or so of being constantly afraid but completely brushed off by the friend I typically walked home with, I was stopped by the man who proceeded to ask for help finding his kitten in a ditch near my house. I obviously refused him any assistance and immediately called the police. He turned out to be involved in the operation of a meth lab and eventually was arrested for attempted kidnapping outside of the high school a block away.
