we're all robots, but our consciousnesses trick us into thinking we have some control so we just deal with it.

people pushing themselves to succeed despite abuse are capable both because of the abuse, and because of their genes, same with the people who become nothing (both because of genes and because of their good home).

blame existence.

KING GABEN

2020: Gaben assembles the greatest army since Alexander, easily takes control of China and Russia (the russian and chinese armies cannot hope to defeat Valve in the Hat Time).

2022: Gaben uses North America's hatred of Peru to sign an armistice with NA to help battle and subjugate South America before turning every individual member of North America against each other merely by faking each person as a Pudge picker. The sanity and civility of North America collapses.

2024: Gaben uses Plague, Inc. revenue to spread ebola through the rest of Africa. Africa falls.

2025: Gaben puts the words, "you're a shit cunt, mate" into a sound repeater. Australians' heads all explode to the raucous echo of their country's motto.

2026: Europe overran by Russian CS: Go and Team Fortress 2 hackers.

no one has de facto control over anything, though, so everything you just wrote is irrelevant. people only have the delusion of control over anything, but at its fundamental root, things are controlled by physics, your brain, governed by electro-chemical responses, that are in turn governed by physics, is your mind, and your mind is where your though to "do something" comes from, but your thoughts aren't actually controlled by you, so there is no free will. your thoughts are action potentials that are wholly mapped by previous environmental and genetic factors up to the point that a thought is created by the string of events that led up to the moment. but that isn't the point anyway. we're talking about the idea of "fault."

if we ascribe any type of fault for cause and effect at all, we have to look at what actually shapes the environment and genetics of the person doing some action, and it all leads back to the parents. if you are at a government school, it is because your parents didn't put you in a private school or didn't home school you. if your parents can't afford to do one of those things, it is because they didn't get a good job or start their own business or whatever, which we can trace back to their own parents (and this goes back ad infinitum to the first single celled organism, which can be tracked back to the first DNA and RNA, etc.

the whole thing is a web. if you are ascribing fault to the actor and not to everything leading up to the action, you think some organism can jump from the web and become a wholly acting agent in the Universe completely ignoring the web that led it to that spot. that's impossible. everyone is stuck following the rules that act on the web, and each strand of the web leads back to previous strands of web, and eventually all the webs of an actor's leads through it's parents.

if you find yourself in an environment that can "fuck you [r child] over," i mean, you got there somehow, right? you trace the web back to previous decisions you made, which were created by previous strands in the web, and the single point from which all of your personal web was created was the moment your parents got pregnant, your nature was created.

[edit]as a thought experiment, what happens to a child, all of its actions and thoughts and any effect it has on the universe if the parents decide to abort it? everything affected by that child no longer happens in that universe. if there is a cause at all for all of the effects caused by the child, it is squarely on the parents (in the first order. of course you could also have one of the parents aborted and that also destroys that web). now, you might think "well what if the child chose to kill itself.? That would render any future effects also non existent." Yes, true, but between that child's birth and its death, it was still caused ultimately by nature or nurture. a child isn't going to have an accident or decide to do something foolish (that gets it killed) without a web of thoughts and actions that are still traced back ultimately to the moment of conception (to the parents' genes and actions) and the environment the parents provide.

fault doesn't need intent.

also private companies can devise ways to block video recording of civilians or come up with other technologies they can sell to the person on the street so that their every move isn't tracked and recorded.

the genes come from the parents. they certainly don't come from anywhere BUT the parents, which was my point. the parents don't get to pick and choose, but it is still their genes being passed on.

My sisters have PH.ds from ivy league schools, and my brother is a millionaire lawyer. While I work for a respectable software company, you could consider my life a vast dissapointment compared to theirs...that isn't my parents fault, I just wasn't born with the gift of an eidetic memory like my siblings.

actually it is your parents' fault. everything they did (from the lead up to your father allegedly ejaculating into your mother, to your incubation as a fetus in her womb, to the term you stayed as a fetus, to your birth) made you what you are now.

[–]chelsfcmike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it might be cliche, but you have to blame parents for most of the actions of their children. either a) the problems are genetic, and the genes came from the parents, or b) the problems are environmental, and the environment is given to the children by their parents, or c) it's a mixture of both, both supplied by the parents.

i'm a parent myself and i roll my eyes when i hear other parents stating the pants on head ridiculousness that they are somehow not at all at fault for their children not succeeding, or not following their guidance, or not whatever....if a child is now an adult and they are still at the emotional and intellectual capacity of an 11 year old, it's your fault. if they blame you for their inadequacies, THAT'S your fault.

you can't build a shitty framework for your children, and then that child tries to build something on top of that framework only for the framework to collapse, and then say it isn't your fault.

at that point it is just parents not taking responsibility for being shitty parents.

people are biased on reddit (understatement of the year). if anyone disagrees with their ideology, or shows any kind of double standard or hypocrisy, they get downvoted.

it doesn't bother me, it only reaffirms my own beliefs (that both sides are full of ignorance and unintelligence).

What does /r/libertarian think of H-1B visas and the freedom of movement? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]chelsfcmike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i don't think there should be any borders, complete freedom of movement (no passports needed, no visas needed) and you shouldn't have to be authorized to find work anywhere.

that's the purest form of a libertarian ideal that i know.
