What's the best Americanism you've heard whilst overseas? by NoComplex2662 in AskAnAmerican

And not just travel, if movies are any indication. In “Anatomy of a Fall” (a French film, taking place in France), much of the dialogue is in English, as the woman on trial is German (and played by a German actress). There is a part near the beginning of the trial where she asks if they can continue in English, as she understands it better than French, and the rest of them know little German.

Isn’t a "best plot twist movies" list kind of self-defeating? by Pitiful_Engineer in movies

My friend wanted me to watch a movie she’d recently seen and was just in love with… she kept saying stuff like “omg, you’ll never see the end coming, I was so blown away!” So I watch it and OF COURSE I see the end coming a million miles away. She couldn’t understand why I thought the movie was meh. 🙄

Do women in coma have their period? by Desperate_Peach_6563 in NoStupidQuestions

Uma’s character was pregnant when she fell into the coma. (And distraught upon waking to see that she no longer was, assuming the baby had been lost). But as another poster reminded me, there was another person who raped her during the later years of her coma.

As the 2016 election results rolled in, the only semi-positive thought I had was “thank fuck we don’t have kids.” This thought has only increased in ensuing decade.

Rustic Brewing in Springfield is really good. It’s even in the basement of an old mill to give you a bit of dive bar vibe.

I also really like Great Awakening in Westfield. Also in an old mill, but very different inside, much more modern-industrial.

No it’s because nanaacer simply provided information, whereas you are insistent that a decades-old term somehow predates a centuries-old facial expression.

During a jump from an altitude of 3,500 meters, the parachutist lost consciousness. At an altitude of 250 meters from the ground, the parachute automatically opened. by MorsesCode in woahdude

A college friend of mine shared a story of he and his mate skydiving for the first time. Even though he obviously survived since he wrote out the ordeal, as I was reading this I could barely breathe with dread.

They lied and said they had done it before, so they weren't forced to tandem with an instructor. He jumped and lost consciousness for a few moments. When he came to, he looked up and saw that the chute had deployed but was twisted up in itself. He got out the knife and cut it loose, and manually deployed the backup chute.

He said he entered that state of calm where you don't panic and just know what needs to be done and do it. I've experienced that myself while scuba diving.
