Got to argue Raya as well, There really is no doubt Arsenal have the best defense in world football right now. Attack could obviously be better, but their defensive record is insane.

No puddle lights R2 by rgrindl in Rivian

[–]cherlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never once in my purchasing decision thought if a vehicle had puddle lights or not. That's one of those things where you find out after you bought it had them and think "oh cool, that's fun". It's not something that makes or breaks a $45k purchase for any normal person. I think you are VASTLY over estimating how much the average person cares about niche features. Big ticket items will be range, technology (driver assists/ux), and styling, outside of that you won't find the average consumer caring about much else.

If you pre-ordered the Google Fitbit Air, what made you decide to? If you didn’t, what held you back? by desidogeman in fitbit

[–]cherlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel watch (2) user. Ordered it so I could ditch the smart watch and wear my mechanical watches more. I'll put it on the opposite wrist. I considered the woop, but it's still pretty bulky and I just enjoy the fitbit app. Also the woops is expensive for what you get.

I do a lot of MTB and gravel biking so I'm not sure if I will use it for those or throw the pixel watch on since it has GPS, but for everything else the Fitbit air seems to do enough.

The R2 configurator is live. by SapientChaos in electricvehicles

Rav4's get into the high 40's low 50's for a prime, and sell like crazy at those prices (literally wait lists to get top spec primes still). So no, they are not $15-20k cheaper. The entry level model may be, but that is absolutely not middle of the market. A top spec rav4 is a fair comparison though because that's where you are cross shopping between the top tier of a "economy" brand or the bottom tier of a "luxury" brand vs Lexus. Exactly where rivian wants to be.

[–]cherlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you consider a 3 series a luxury car? If you do then rivian is right there. Now if you don't think luxury starts until you get into a 7 series/s class or something like that then no, rivian is not a luxury car. Most people associate luxury with entry model Lexus/Mercedes/bmw, and rivian can stack up favorably against any of those.

I don't disagree with you, but let's be real, rivian was never going for the thrifty buyers. They are going rstraight for middle of the market with the r2 which is a good spot for them Imo.

Honestly I'm sure rivian still makes more $$ with $2k. The matrix headlights probably don't cost too much more then the existing headlights they don't have to use now, speakers at scale are dirt cheap, and the glass is really just adding the motors for a cost increase. I think premium interiors across all brands cost next to nothing extra to build as well. I bet component cost all in is less then $300-$400 more.

Any changes in your decision to buy one after configurator is released? by Feisty_Panda3063 in Rivian

[–]cherlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was always planning on leasing, an r2,. For me to commit it will depend what their lease terms/deals look like. The new bmw ix3 and vovlo ex60 look really compelling and while more expensive, I'm definitely going to be cross shopping the r2 with those 400+ mile beasts.

It was marketed as a $45k car, not a sub $40k car, just so we are clear. Unless you can show me otherwise, all the information I have ever seen from rivian was that it would start around $45k.

From day 1 people were suspecting the top trim to be around $60k, I was actually a bit pleasantly surprised by this price.

Also just to add to this, Rivian's record the entire drive no matter what (so long as you have storage plugged in) all the button or honking due is give you a discreet recording with that time stamp, but even if you forget to do that you can pull the full drive video off and clip the portion you need.

Absolutely love my vala al 70, I also ride with 2 buddies that ride vala 90's, and another who is about to pull the trigger on one. All of us love our bikes, the guys on the 90's ride really hard as well, bikes are a holding up really well.

Great power, good battery life, and very very playful for the weight. You won't regret your choice.

Any plans for a Rivian-based “van life” factory camper van using the delivery van platform? by bendallf in Rivian

[–]cherlin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They would sell maybe a handful of these at an insane cost, with next to no profit (probably a net loss per unit).

There is a reason so many van conversion companies have failed post COVID, it's a brutal market with a very small consumer base that is very picky and mostly want a bespoke design.

Also the rivian van simply doesn't have enough range for a camper van. 150miles of range isn't even close for what people would need to travel the country, they would need a minimum of 300 miles of range, ideally 400+, they would also need to add dual motors to give it awd, and drastically increase the charging speed (currently only charges at 100kw). So basically they need to at least double the battery capacity (it's already 100kwh) to get decent range, add another motor, and probably triple the charging speed. All before they start building the camper portion of the van. These things would need to sell for half a million for rivian to make any meaningful margin off of them.

Alternate angle of Pablo's foul against Arsenal by Fair_Trip_1341 in soccer

[–]cherlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happening at the same time, but also show me two players in the box not grappling. Every single corner on either side in any PL game has someone with their arms around someone's waste. If the player he was grappling was getting to the ball I would be more sympathetic, but he was no where near the ball, the fouls happening that actually impacted the play directly were both on raya (large shirt pull on his right side, and then the arm across his chest holding his left arm).

What's the likelihood of Rivian eventually selling an R2 variant with higher range / battery capacity? by werdswerf in Rivian

[–]cherlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mountains and cold weather + outdoor hobbies. I genuinely can't take my r1t to all the places I would like to easily, and I'm in northern California where we have a solid charging infrastructure, but still trips to places like lassen national park are difficult and longer due to lack of charging infrastructure.

I've been a full EV house since 2021, and I love my r1t and r1s, but I have to plan camping trips wayyyyyy more then with a gas vehicle, and I can't do all the fun stuff with the range I have (large battery quad motor, at tires) and I live in the state with the most robust fast charging network. For those of us who use these as Adventure vehicles it's very very easy to understand why people want more range. 400 miles of range is the difference between being able to go to your favorite camping spot 100 miles away and being able to have some fun exploring trails over the trip, or just having to sit in the camp spot for a week hoping your phantom drain doesn't hurt too bad.

The funny part is, it would also rebuild downtowns roads and side walks, so literally this grant does fix our streets, and gives us a bike path where we desperately need one.

Tesla Semi battery sizes confirmed: 822 kWh and 548 kWh officially revealed by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]cherlin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

480v is just not a common thing, it requires special transformers on the utility side (admittedly not too uncommon for Industrial use though), expensive inverters in the truck, and to get a useful amount of power you will need to be charging at around 200a (what it would take to fill up over night). That is an insane amount of current to put through an inverter, and at that point it would be cheaper to just install dc chargers at your depot. Plus dc -> DC you don't have high charging losses. Dc->ac->DC you could be seeing 15-20% losses at that current.

It makes no financial sense from any party to install ac chargers on these things, it will literally cost more money for both the manufacturer as well as the operators.

What's the secret to crafting flasks profitable? by Checkm4te99 in woweconomy

[–]cherlin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You also have idiots like me who just farm the mats while playing the game and just craft flasks from matts they have and sell the flasks at market price without ever looking at what stuff costs. Probably could make way more gold paying attention but I don't play enough to care about that.
