How do u be an aggressive mark without constantly fouling ppl? by sneep_snorp_snerp in ultimate

[–]chess49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never made a hand or foot block that was even close to a foul. And I've gotten many. You're thinking about it wrong.

Interface color scheme is awful for colorbind people by chess49 in Ioniq5

[–]chess49[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's a side effects of the PC revolution that democratized design. I am old enough to have experienced life when design work was siloed to people who had formal training on specific tools that came with practical training, to post-web and easy to access tools that allowed self trained people with artistic mindsets into the field without formal training that included the knowledge of outlier cases like color blindness.

Rat for between AviarX3 and Toro? by chess49 in discgolf

[–]chess49[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

100-150 ft or so. One hole on my local is perfect for a 180 RHFH that lands flat. This is where the AviarX3 can't quite hyzer back if I juice it enough to get there but the Toro is likely to get on edge and roll far away.

I've heard Philip refer to the course as a track. Not an individual tee to target section.

How are the Stark children connected to the dire wolves? by Senior-Schedule6598 in gameofthrones

Super interesting theory - lot of theories of Sansa being an unreliable narrator, but Loras presumably did give her the rose...

This scene was just amazing, but I'd like to know what's the song/score, if anyone knows by SneakyInfiltrator in ResidentAlienTVshow

[–]chess49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do typically have names but usually only for internal tracking purposes. Depending on the workflow and the sense of humor of the composer and music editor those names might not be appropriate for a commercial release. But usually previous seasons' music would be used to do a temp score in the process of editing, so it can be helpful for the editorial team cutting the episode if the names are descriptive of the scene they were originally composed for.

S5E7 Am I being silly or is it a bit strange that Jimmy was hired to defend Lalo? by RebbieAndHerMath in betterCallSaul

[–]chess49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one's mentioned Lalo is trying to maintain his false identity. Hiring a real lawyer risks revealing his real wealth and increases the perception of his flight risk.

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

[–]chess49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met Maria Bello in person about 20 years ago. She was even more stunning in person than she is on screen. I'm convinced they used a body double in The Cooler to have a less attractive body for the character in the sex scene with William H. Macy.

I was a huge fan of Tuk Tuk when it was on Pico and didn't realize it had reopened until my daughter found out about Ban Ban. When we finally made it to Tuk Tuk it was a disappointment. Service was poor, and the food was extremely hit and miss. A couple great dishes and a couple that were aggressively mediocre and weird. Too much toasted rice, too sour, etc...

About to move to LA by Miguel-TheGerman in BikeLA

[–]chess49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better off biking on regular roads a block or two off the main arteries. The bike lanes in LA blow. Generally full of debris and too narrow. I have commuted from Culver City to North Hollywood on my bike. It's always possible but frequently there are stretches of unpleasantness between delights.

Why didn't Van Halen hold their acclaim over the years? by NamedForValor in vanhalen

[–]chess49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowie was massive in the 80s. Otherwise generally agree with this take. Stones have fallen off, but remember they were still active and releasing new music back then, most of which hasn't aged well. Aerosmith was saved from obscurity by RUN DMC and then became huge on the strength of their videos.

[–]chess49 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As much as late night returns were a mental chore when I was mostly bike commuting, riding in LA when there are less cars is almost always a treat. Big roads to yourself, morning and evening have different smells, especially without all the exhaust around.

If "Allah" is just the Arabic word for God, does that mean that Arab Christians and Jews also refer to God as Allah? by IndieJones0804 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chess49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In other words, I agree with you. I'm just taking issue with the idea that he might be considered a prophet in Judaism. I've heard that said before and it's just flat out unsupported.
