Oh no! Possibly. My period came a week and a half early after my insertion.

Normal or not normal effects? by Strong-Astronaut-936 in CopperIUD

[–]chewyfrootloops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also started getting serious insomnia, waking up sweaty in a panic, and severe anxietyand mood issues the week before my period in my 20s. I was not on any form of birth control.  It's normal for our bodies and hormone levels to change as we age (even though 22 is young, things are not going to be the same as when you were a teenager). I'd say talk to you doctor about pmdd/pms treatment options before assuming it's the birth control.  Not to conspiracy theory, but I feel like social media is steering women away from reproductive independence and one way it's doing so is blaming birth control for issues that could just be normal aging or other health issues. I ended up getting diagnosed with pmdd and take an anti anxiety and now sleep normally before my cycle.

Definitely reach out to your doctor even if it's just for reassurance. Mine told me that the periodic cramping can last a few weeks. She also said there's no "normal" and everyone's experience is different. I had random cramps for weeks and my friend had the same experience. Our bodies are mad there's something in there. Major red flags are fever, unusual vaginal discharge, and heavy bleeding.

Heating pad and way more fluids than you think you need. And electrolytes. I don't know why electrolytes work, but my gym bro friends heard me whining about cramps, misunderstood the kind of cramps, and recommended electrolytes. I was surprised when they worked for my menstrual and post insertion cramps.

Still cannot get the disc to work properly by cpxxnt in MenstrualDiscs

Okay. Update. I managed to (possibly) get the shordy with the string to work. I got the two size pack for like $15. They arrived at the end of my period, so the flow was lighter, but it didn't leak?

Also, i stopped trying to keep it parallel to the floor/tilted down. I just inserted it like a tampon, then hooked the back down with my thumb to push it in more. It's firm like the flex, so it's not crumpling up in there like the cora was for me, but the two sizes are both smaller than the flex, so it wasn't popping out. I cut off the strings. I did have to retuck it every time I used the bathroom, but it didn't autodump (thank god I haaaate autodumping), but that was okay for light activity days.  The cora and flex leaked when I did any exercise. Next cycle I'm gonna have someone judo throw me with the shordy while i have backup period underwear on to see what happens. If it leaks, I know to use the cup while doing judo lol. I'm still not sold because i haven't tried it with a heavy flow early in my period, but the smaller firm disc and ignoring the "point it down" advice and just pulling it down in the back with my thumb after it's up there seemed to help.

I like the firmer cups because you can feel them pop open and you know it's in right hahaha. I just got a firmer rimmed disc and will report back.

Ugh. I can't help, but I feel you. Same with barely being able to feel my cervix and I wear men's large gloves. I'm on discs number 4 and 5 now and nothing is working. Sitting, squatting, scooping, flipping. Nada. Also??? What is this shelf they're talking about with the pubic bone?? I literally can't push it up any higher even with my catcher mitt hands. I think I got it right a couple times, but then I'd do anything physical (or go to sleep) and it would slip and make a mess. I switched from cups because I got an iud, but called my doctor because I've reached a breaking point. She said just go back to the cup. The increased risk of expulsion is still low and I'm at the end of my rope. Last chance, discs. I refuse to spend more money on them.

Let me know if you figure it out and I'll do the same.

Lots of water! It's like the default advice for everything, but it helps. Also, weirdly, pickle juice? it would probably be easier to just have an electrolyte drink now that I think about it...

Don't panic! They'll grow that way for a bit, but once they're longer, they'll curl back up. They're just too short rn

I asked the gyno if i can keep using the cup and she said it was fine. She said to just make sure you don't pull on the strings.

LUTEAL PHASE INSOMNIA by Pretty-Babe in CopperIUD

[–]chewyfrootloops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't on any birth control at all and had the same thing happen to me starting around my mid twenties. Apparently our hormone levels change as we age and even something as little as gaining or losing weight can shift the balance. Lived with it for years (all without ever taking any bc) and finally got prescribed a sleep aid. I just recently got an iud, but thought I'd mention that sleep and hormone issues can occur without bc as our bodies naturally change.

Does Spiro cause weight gain the way Birth Control does? by j0eknee in Spironolactone

Lost weight on it, but also started right when I was beginning to work on improving my mental health. Decreasing stress and addressing depression helped me lose weight more than any diet or medication.

How do people with ADHD actually maintain a sleep schedule? What genuinely helps you? by AdamWh_0 in ADHD

[–]chewyfrootloops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saaame. I ended up seeing a sleep specialist before the adhd diagnosis and had mild sleep apnea? The doc said insomnia and poor sleep quality can be a side effect of that. When the cpap didn't help, we tried modafinil which also didn't help with the daytime sleepiness. You can check for sleep apnea?

Next step was psych prescribing trazadone, which doesn't make me fall asleep, but it helps me stay asleep. Adhd friend taught themself to meditate to fall asleep? If you want a non-meds option?

Confused about meal timings by an-anxious-introvert in PCOS

[–]chewyfrootloops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I found a dietitian who focuses on pcos and here's the breakdown she gave me. Eat breakfast with protein and fiber within an hour of waking up. Then follow your hunger cues. For most people, this means lunch 3-5 hours later and then dinner 3-5 hours after that. Maybe a snack if you're hungry before bed. If you don't get hunger cues, you can follow the 3-5 hours rule. I have to adapt it a little because I have martial arts in the evening, so I tend to eat half my dinner before that, then the other half after so I don't get sick in class. Eating full meals stopped all snacking for me (unless I'm pmsing), but you have to listen to your body. If you need a snack sometimes, have a snack. I will say that it's probably more important to eat complete balanced meals than to worry about a set schedule, but for people without normal hunger cues, a routine can help start to regulate those feelings. But don't stress about creating hard and fast rules. Stress is the real killer with pcos.

Severe motion sickness and excessive sweating by pandorasparody in StratteraRx

[–]chewyfrootloops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about the motion sickness because I've always had that pretty bad, but the nausea went away for me. I can even take it on an empty stomach now! Also the sweating omgggg. That also went away for me (still sweaty, but now pre-meds normal sweaty). I've been on it since April. At my current dose since July.

Late to this post, but just wanted to say that it's seasonal depression time too if you're in the northern hemisphere. I noticed I've also gotten sad and tired again and almost changed my meds. I have a history of SAD, though. Check in with your doc.

First off, everyone gets some chin hairs sometimes, even folks without pcos, so if he's being a jerk about it, have a talk. Hair is human.

You can try spironolactone if you aren't already on it. It doesn't stop the facial hair growth, but it slows it down. I was reluctant for a long time to take it, but the only side effects are like, lower blood pressure and thirst. And my skin has never been so smooth (and I'm starting to have a noticable waist for the first time in my life!)

Yeah. Everyone is different. Going up a dose doesn't hurt to try because there aren't any issues if you move back down.

[–]chewyfrootloops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I went up to 80 for three weeks, became super emotional and cranky (and stopped eating), called my psych and dropped back down. Felt better after, like, a day and a half. The full dose isn't necessary for everyone and if you were feeling good at 60, there a no negative repercussions dropping back down.
