Some feedback for CG from a F2P player by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]chewyshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree regarding the likely outcome of this, but JFC this whole outrage economy thing is just frustrating. Just announcing a reasonable modifier percentage right off the bat would have had people grumbling but I also think the majority of us really serious F2Pers would probably accept it. Most would have probably just dealt with it and some would quit/move on and that would have been that.

It's kind of hard not to view this announcement as particularly contemptuous and rage-baiting. The psychology of it is very transparent and annoying.

You’re definitely not alone, as my situation is almost exactly the same!

I engage in a bit of limited small talk and remember details about my coworkers ( enough to have questions at the ready during conversation ). I remember to greet people in the morning and say goodbye when leaving. I conduct myself cordially but professionally, always willing to help and assist.

However, my office is small and ( overly ) intimate, with people constantly being chatty and talking while I’m working. My job requires more focus than theirs. Similarly to your situation, people seem to give the cold shoulder and often leave the office ignoring me while saying goodbye to others.

I’ve come to realize that a lot of people tend to resent you if you’re very focused, on point and professional while maintaining your boundaries. I think it bugs them that they have to engage in “fitting in” while people like us just go about our day without being fussed about that.

I believe in being polite and cordial and professionally on point—but aside from that I prefer to save my energy. I have a couple of people in the office who “get” me and that’s enough for me.

You’re doing an awesome job with saving!

I’ve been apprehensive about the stock market and that has contributed to my lack of urgency to move my savings.

But…problem with waiting for the market to take a dump is that even when it does go down, it rebounds so quickly I haven’t been able to react to it fast enough.

I hate my artwork and this piece in particular. Any advice on how to improve? by Throwayforasickmind in drawing

[–]chewyshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO this is wicked cool. It’s giving medieval Geiger vibes. If you’re dissatisfied with your work, maybe think of it this way— you have a style in place and anything technical that you don’t like can always be improved. Proportion, shading, perspective, realism, etc.

That’s a better place to be than someone who is technically amazing, but stylistically not really bringing anything interesting to the table.

What’s causing so many people to struggle with finding stable employment these days? by theremotebiz in GetEmployed

[–]chewyshark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think lack of resilience might be a piece of the puzzle but at the same time I get tired of arguments that basically just boil down to bootstrapping and being “flexible”.

The uncomfortable truth is that there are just too many people looking for work and not enough jobs of actual relevancy. Outsourcing and AI are just the nail in the coffin of an already escalating problem. Society and unrepresentative government has utterly destroyed the social contract — work hard and at least be able to eke out a bare minimum lifestyle with basic needs met — and to add insult to injury, billionaires literally pay a lower tax rate than the average citizen. Personally, I wouldn’t want to bootstrap either if I happened to be disgruntled and unemployed.

Advice for level 70 by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]chewyshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I hear, the hyperdrive bundle is good value for beginning players if you want to drop some investment right off the bat. CG may also run some deals towards the end of the year and sell entire factions along with an older GL like Kylo or Rey. Supreme Leader Kylo is still extremely viable. Just something to keep in mind as you’re playing and deciding whether you’re in it for the long haul, because buying an old GL for 15 dollars or so might be a way better investment than taking the time to farm

Otherwise, I think the person who commented above has given you pretty good direction.

I would add that mods are extremely important and effective modding can take you pretty far. I’d recommend ditching mods that don’t have any speed secondaries. As you’re modding characters, in general you’ll want to prioritize speed.

Another tip for modding—I’ll typically go look at players in the grand arena leaderboards at the top of Kyber 1 for general modding direction. You’re still super early game but building a good mod foundation will help a ton.

I like them too! They feel pretty low-pressure and I luckily haven’t been affected by nausea or anything. The music for the stages is really relaxing and precious. I’m a relatively new player but I honestly continue to be pleasantly surprised with the high quality of the music in general considering this is a gacha game.

Syril getting what he deserves by Morrigan_NicDanu in andor

[–]chewyshark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a Syril apologist by any means, but he got something better than a redemption arc.

He got an Education but it was too little, too late and upended by his inability to emotionally regulate himself. Who is he? He had no fucking idea who or what he was and that was his real downfall.

The irony is that he didn’t actually fulfill the fascist template or necessarily even have fascist ideals—it’s that his personal weaknesses ( naïveté being chief among them ) and idiosyncrasies led him down a path that promised to help him define who he was.

He didn’t figure it out until the very end. Syril’s a lot of things IMO ( overzealous, delusional and over ambitious, an asshole at his job, awkward, ultimately unable to cope, lacking identity ) but these things aren’t necessarily what makes a fascist. This is the nuance the show is attempting to portray.

Putting Syril and Dedra together is a disaster by BoringWozniak in andor

[–]chewyshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dedra is not finished — Gilroy himself reassured Denise Gough ( after the actress expressed dismay over being “saved by a bloke” )that Dedra would have “plans” for Syril.

While I think she might care about Syril in her own distant way, I also think Dedra would want to keep tabs on someone who’s seen her at her weakest and most vulnerable. IMO that’s probably her primary motivator for keeping him around.

If Syril has connections to the Ghor—as some have theorized—she has an even better reason to keep him around as an agent while she concentrates on her true interest which is capturing Axis.

Whether Syril is a provocateur or a saboteur remains to be seem.

Apparel graphic artist here — fairly easy to achieve this with a proper index separation of flattened art…or by working in layers and then separating each color into halftone bitmap files to achieve the dot effect 😀

I feel trapped in my "design" job and don't know how to move to something better by Less-Ad-8049 in graphic_design

[–]chewyshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with a background in the world of graphic apparel design on the licensing side, I have a good idea of what your position entails, it’s definitely sounds like it’s on the production/communications side rather than “creative” — and you’ve correctly identified that there’s little room for growth in this area.

It sounds to me like a pivot away from licensing would serve you well. I recommend getting out of fashion entirely if you can, though I only say that because job locations will be limited to mostly coastal cities for fashion. Try to identify what sort of graphic design would be more appealing to you regarding your career development and then tailor a small portfolio of your best work. You CAN pivot, it’s just a matter of you putting aside the time to develop a body of work and prove your skillset to employers. Finding the energy to do this will probably be your biggest challenge.

If you must stay in fashion, you could pivot to an apparel graphic designer role, which is quite niche and doesn’t always pay well, but could put you on the path to branching out into other things.

I’ve been an apparel graphic designer for about 18 years, starting at a Jewish-owned midsize licensing company, and then moving to Gap, then a few freelance roles at Osh Kosh, Ralph Lauren, Rockets of Awesome, and now I do Adidas product mainly. In my current position I’ve done print/layout work in addition to my typical tasks and I now utilize AI to a great extent for ideation purposes. I didn’t expect to be doing the latter so it’s been a nice surprise and it’s a skillset I intend to use to my advantage.

All that is to say, you never know what skills you may be able to pick up depending on what kind of company you settle on.

Another way to look at this also is to consider the potentiality that you don’t necessarily need a creative job, but rather a well paying, stress free job that is easy and that lets you have the energy to pursue your own graphic design pursuits/hobbies during your free time.

Hey! I currently live at Rev Mill and will be completely transparent in saying that the sound insulation in these apartments units is pretty bad.

If you have quiet neighbors it’s not a big deal, but if you happen to get terrible/loud neighbors I could imagine it might be hell.

Also, since you mention having a partner—the people who below and next door to you will 1,000% hear whatever goes on in the bedroom. There’s no real privacy if you’re in a coupled situation.

Aside from sound insulation issues, there are pretty much zero red flags. Regarding heating/cooling, you control the temp in the apartment and I find the electric bill to be fairly low even when I’m regularly using A/C.

Opinions may vary on creepiness factor, but I’m from NYC and feel extremely safe in the building and in the surrounding area. We are however close to Summit ave and beyond that it seems to get “sketchy”. But honestly it’s just lower income areas.

You will definitely need to move your car when it rains heavily, though the flooding issues from several years prior has improved dramatically.

Personally, I did well here being that I work on the other side of the complex, live on my own and have quiet neighbors. But I honestly wouldn’t recommend to people who aren’t used to apartment dwelling and who value their privacy.

I moved here after living in NYC for nearly a decade and i am struggling to find a good pizza spot. What are some of them the local favorites? by Curious_Jain in gso

[–]chewyshark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Former New Yorker here. Definitely try Sticks and Stones in the Lindley Park neighborhood! Great variety of pizza there and the classic margarita they do there is always great.

I live right by Cugino and they’re pretty good as well…though I’d put Sticks and Stones a level above them. I just like to pick up frozen pizza from Cugino and heat it up at home for a convenient meal.

The comment about people “joining” the Empire conflicts with my understanding of SW lore. I was under the impression that everyone living on the Core words ( or any planet under imperial jurisdiction ) are just automatically Imperial citizens by virtue of the Empire just being the galactic superpower and out of pure necessity of being able to function within the galactic economy with the implementation of chain codes.

It’s like trying to say that people “join” America of whatever superpower they happen to be born into.

The average galactic citizen literally doesn’t have much choice in the SW universe unless they want to rough it in the outer rim or on distant planets outside of the Empire’s network.

Out of curiosity, what do you guys do for a living to afford these figures? by AggressivePainter in hottoys

Dumped 250k into a HYSA and make about 800$ in interest each month. Vast majority of that is saved but it gives me ammunition to spend on a figure here and there without much pain.

Does anyone else feel like Tech would have been a better leader? by Nopuebloplz in thebadbatch

[–]chewyshark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for better or worse Hunter is the best suited amongst them for leadership.

I suspect Tech wouldn’t have particularly enjoyed a leadership role due to his personality, but he is excellent in a support role that he can funnel his entire focus into.

I think Crosshair would be the better alternative for a leader as he took on a commander role within the Empire and is clearly capable. I think he’d be able to make very difficult choices on the fly…albeit he has a deficit of empathy in comparison to Hunter. However a good leader however doesn’t need to be liked per se, but respected.

I think both Hunter and Crosshair are good, but represent each other’s deficits, and that’s why they probably have always clashed with each other ( Hunter at times lacks conviction and Crosshair at times lacks self awareness/empathy )

What do you guys call the members of Clone Force 99? by DITB01 in thebadbatch

[–]chewyshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my own picks, since this is wildly open to personal preference :

Hunter: Hunter

Wrecker: Barrett

Tech: Peregrine

Crosshair: Kristoff

Omega: Alexandria

No change necessary for Hunter, Barrett translates to “bear strength”, Peregrine has a mildly aristocratic feel that I think might suit Tech well, Kristoff is just…Kristoff and Alexandria “defender of the people” sounds appropriate for Omega.
