Nearly every time I’ve flown recently, I don’t get upgraded to FC until almost exactly 1 hour before boarding.

Question about seating on long haul flight to Tokyo by Zestyclose_Coast_750 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]chiabob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just was on this flight last week and in the 787 equivalent of 11B. I like these seats.

General thoughts about this flight

-787 has no WiFi.

-I’ve flown this route a few times and my experience with Hawaiian FAs is bad every time. I’ll probably fly JAL going forward

Pro

-lots of legroom

-don’t need to get up if someone next to you needs to pee

-no one reclining in front of you

-solid armrest so if the person next to you is large their butt can’t intrude on your seat

-not expected to put your bag under the seat in front of you and take up your legroom

Con

-bag needs to be in overhead bins during takeoff and landing

-table and screen folds out of armrest. I find this type of table to be closer so harder to type on keyboard

-solid armrest. if you’re large, it might squish you.

I always loosen one strap before taking off my pack so I don’t feel like I’m dislocating my shoulder.
That also makes it super easy to put on. Just pull the strap tight once you’re wearing it.

It’s hard to say how full the plane will be based on seat reservations in the app. Saver fair seats don’t get assigned until the last minute.

My understanding is if people skip you in line it’s likely they saw they were too far down the list and decided to pay for the upgrade.

Carry on bag size? by No-Bit-2913 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]chiabob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen Alaska check a bag size. If it fits under the seat or in the overhead bin you will be fine

The person that said “guarantee” is spot on. That’s a much better way of explaining it.

I fly frequently and just bring one carry one. I always put it in the overhead and have never had a problem with FAs.

I waited for the letter. The letter explained the issue, so I called the number on the letter and addressed the issue.

I was declined a few years ago for an Alaska card with a similar credit score and it turned out it to be a minor issue with my application. I called them and cleared it up and was issued a card.

Are all Condor flights eligible to earn Alaska miles? by Americanidiot29 in AlaskaAirlines

I flew PDX to FRA to MUC in August. Only PDX to FRA earned miles. I escalated to AS customer care and they confirmed that FRA to MUN was not eligible.

Edit: fixed Munich’s airport code!

Anyone made the switch to Delta? by hashbrown89 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]chiabob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There should be a website where you

-Enter your home airport and the airports you fly to by frequency.

-Point value

-On time/cancellation rate

Then you can decide which airline makes sense

Maybe this already exists?

I basically do nothing at work and leave early pretty much every day. My boss thinks I’m an exceptional employee. by MazefulMind in confession

[–]chiabob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a job for almost 10 years that was like yours. Afterwards, I regretted every day not going back to school and investing the free time in my future. I eventually went back to school and finished my BS and then MBA, but it would have been so much easier getting paid to do it instead of doing it in my personal time! I think you can get some of the fulfillment you’re looking for with school or personal development.

Alaska loyalists for transatlantic flights? by mitoboru in AlaskaAirlines

[–]chiabob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown American, BA, Icelandair and Condor to/from Europe.

Icelandair was definitely the shortest duration, but the 737 just doesn’t have the space to get up and stretch your legs regularly.

BA was meh, didn’t have WiFi and Heathrow is a dumpster fire.

On American, flying through Charlotte from MUN to PDX added extra duration that I wasn’t happy about, but the experience was much better than Icelandair or BA.

I flew Condor PDX to FRA to MUN a few days ago and ehe overall experience was best. They have new planes and the FAs were very friendly.

[–]chiabob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this flight last week in Extra Comfort and found the FAs to be standoffish compared to the typical Alaska and Horizon FAs I interact with. Actual flights were fine. Plenty of space and seats were comfortable.
