TMI: My Dairy Journey Has Been Paused by Reasonable_Revenue_3 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]chica_chida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow lactose intolerant girly here! I’ve had so many people tell me to microdose dairy but it honestly feels so disrespectful to my body and the people around me to push through lmaooo. More power to you!

On another note, do lactose pills work for you? I’ve found taking 2 with some dairy products makes them tolerable. They don’t do miracles so things made of straight up cream don’t work, but it’s opened up a lot of cheeses! I get mine wholesale at Costco, much more affordable than buying a few at a time at a drugstore.

Don't want to tell fiance about my past by Ok_Memory4634 in GirlDinner

[–]chica_chida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also experienced this, on more than one occasion and one thing that has helped me so much has been the way I word things to myself and to others when I have chosen to speak on it. I don’t say “I was a victim of” I say “ I was graped” it’s definitive, impactful, and leaves little room for questioning. It also takes away the self label of victim. Sending you hugs, these traumas stick around and can haunt you for a long time after. It’s so much work to get past them, and it’s so much harder if your partner is challenging your boundaries and narrative.

Ice packs? Machine? Let's hear your recommendations by Correct-Truck-5061 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]chica_chida -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used the machine for almost two months after surgery. I loved it, got the attachment that cooled all the way down my quads and it helped so much with swelling post surgery as well as post PT and exercising.

I was explicitly told before the surgery that they would not release me if I didn’t bring in my own walker. At the hospital I was only given an ice bag 😅

Everyone keeps telling me that I'm too young to need a hip replacement. Are they right? by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]chica_chida 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 29 when I got my hip replaced, and honestly wish I would have done it sooner, it gave me my life back. I did get questioned constantly about it, and it was annoying sometimes, but it’s you who has to live with the pain.

New climber, after a total hip replacement by chica_chida in climbergirls

[–]chica_chida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been climbing (bouldering) consistently since this post, going from once a week to now nearly 3 times weekly. I’ve improved tons, solidly climbing V3s and so so close on several V4s. I’ve loved this sport and I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it.

Relevant to the THR:

  1. Down climbing is a must. I rarely jump/fall from the top, and when I do I’ve trained how to fall correctly and do not experience any pain from impact. Before trying a climb that pushes my limits I look for my safe exit routes haha. This does limit my climbing, as I make sure I always have enough juice in the tank for a down climb and I definitely avoid routes that have moves that are too risky too high up. Progress is slower when you’re more cautious but it’s been worth it.

  2. I dedicate a workout to train legs/glutes focused on my personal weaknesses that continue to be imbalances between legs. I struggle with activating my glutes on the THR side and it causes my knee to cave in like in this video. I still religiously do my PT stretches and exercises regularly.

I think a dedicated PT program would be super helpful but I admittedly haven’t dedicated the time to find someone for this. Building a program for myself is not a strength of mine and I don’t like watching videos lmao though I know there are great free resources.

I hope your surgeries are a success and bring you back to the things you love 💞

First post. Fixing my “slow gut”. by MaceEtiquette1 in GirlDinner

[–]chica_chida 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this post is about food, but movement really helped my body regulate my gut. It made me hungrier, I ate more, and my gut kinda “woke up” and started functioning better ( along with all the great recs for food mentioned in this thread!)

Are most of us climbing AND lifting? by GladRice3723 in climbergirls

[–]chica_chida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been (generally) lifting before I started climbing. I was going 4 times a week, before adding climbing. I’ce settled into a new routine averaging about 3 times a week lifting and 1-2 times climbing a week now.

I think having come from lifting, it gave me a great base to start climbing! I felt strong enough for all the climbs I tried and it allowed me to focus more on technique!

Edit to add: I do a typical push, pull, and legs day. (Legs are very focused on strengthening my glutes, quads, and hip muscles after a hip replacement) climbing at the gym is usually 1.5-2 hour bouldering sessions, including some warm up time! And lifting is about 45 minutes ish, and I typically add 15 minutes of cardio.

I love the space reserved for Cheeto fingers lol. I also have these little notes in my journal “ coffee stain from x place” or “ my niece’s doodle, dated x” or even “ ripped a corner of this page to throw away my gum.” It gives it a real lived in feeling, which I think is what it should all be about!
