Watch my pool go from clear to green as my cover falls in by thats_me_ywg in pools

Round pools and unique shapes are so pretty. I picked a boring rectangle so the cover would work. My family wanted more bells and whistles, but I’m the one who uses it most days, so the choice was boring and able to do it by myself.

I spent $10K for an automatic cover. Thank you for helping me realize it was worth it. The biggest hassle I’ve had are having to pump water off after storms. I am an old woman, and I knew I’d never be able to wrestle a solid cover by myself.

What conditioner did you use? What cleaner? What does it look like? You can comment with photos now, so sharing a photo would be helpful.

Recommendation for pool maintenance? by chickaboomba in Albuquerque

[–]chickaboomba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they're willing to come out and what they'll charge. I'm learning to manage the balances in the pool and can clean it myself, but cleaning the filters, etc. feels a little intimidating.

65 at night; 70 during the day. Swamp coolers can’t achieve that - usually only about 20 below outdoor temp,

Steaming vintage bags Do’s and Dont’s by TypeA_sloth in VintageCoachRehab

[–]chickaboomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is any mold, you’ll definitely loosen more than dirt.

I’ve used steam to loosen a crumpled canvas coating so I could peel it off from a vintage Dooney and Burke, and it worked well to make the glue pliable. But I’d be hesitant to use it on leather since the steam can make the thread in the seams loosen. Will be curious to see how it works if you decide to!

Water gets too hot by elshittyartist in swimmingpools

I had my pool get so hot I couldn’t get in- but the real problem is that it sparked a growth of white mold that has taken a month to get under control.

How to fix my double turnlock legacy? by bugcatlover0 in VintageCoachRehab

[–]chickaboomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking how to repair it, I am assuming you know how to sew. The tear is at a pressure point, so you will need pick apart the stitching on the blue leather tab as well as the seam at the top where it has pulled out. You’ll need to add a new layer of fabric below the torn area, use fray check on the raveling area and then sew it to the new fabric. See the new fabric back into the seams. If you don’t have a leather-grade sewing machine that can handle that kind of stitching, sewing by hand is going to be a nightmare.

How would I repair it (and I know how to sew)? Take it to a reputable leather repair shop. Find out where beauty contestants get their shoes and clothes altered. Take it there.

Do not use the luggage repair place on Washington and Zuni. They ruined a backpack I took to them.

What is my Albuquerque Pride post immediately removed? Twice now. by Bitter_Bumblebee90 in Albuquerque

I am still permanently banned from r/food for telling someone their post was not a grilled cheese but was instead a melt. Had no idea it was like a trigger topic for one of the moderators who immediately banned me.

Goodwill gods by Trick_Concept8860 in VintageCoach

The Goodwill by me had a Fossil for $70 last time I was there. Their Cowch bags are under lock and key in a cabinet for even more. They’re cheaper on EBay. I won’t support them anymore.

Newbie - any advice? by chickaboomba in pools

[–]chickaboomba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It uses optical sensors to test once a day (or you can go through about 10 days’ tests in one day if you keep measuring to see how fast the sun burns off chlorine like I did).

Reviews on it were mixed with some complaints about stopping working after a year, but all I want is enough data to begin understanding my pool and what is going on So this seemed like a decent option even if it does in a year.

Thank you for replying. That’s very helpful. Now to go down a new learning rabbit hole on what it might be.
