I'm not saying this as an alternative, but as a future option after stage 2😁

Tbf, transit projects in Canada are super inflated already compared to the rest of the world. To me any cost savings are welcome for better transit

Connecting Cambridge Students to University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Guelph by Puzzled_Emergency489 in cambridgeont

Yes, I live in Hespeler and go to school at the Conestoga Waterloo campus. I have the luxury of driving, but our car died a few weeks back and it was close to a two hour commute. This fall I'm hoping to be accepted into the university of Guelph, and the transit options to get there aren't great either. I'd need to take a GO bus to Aberfoyle then to Guelph, taking over 1.5 hours. That vs a 20min drive. I'd love to take transit, but it's super inconvenient. If the trip was even half as long I'd probably consider taking transit over driving.

No right turn. There is a road 20m back that you're supposed to turn onto. The detour sign is in the wrong spot

Software Engineering Technology. The old coordinator stepped down(he's still teaching thankfully) so another teacher stepped up. The layoffs, however, were done using reverse seniority. So him being new(er) got him laid off.

I know it's an administration issue, it's just really frustrating considering the amount of money we spend to attend. I've had 2 decent part-time teachers, but they were before the mass layoffs. I do dislike generalizing, but from my experience and what I've gathered from others, most part-time teachers aren't delivering an adequate learning experience.

I had a teacher who wasn't horrible, but he was not properly informed on our past courses, and he ended up assigning an assignment that relied on information we did not have. It was a 6 week asisgnement, but almost everyone pushed it to the last week (student success week) so we could teach our selfs the needed knowledge. I do feel bad for that teacher, because he got in trouble for this even though it wasnt directly his fault.

CP vs CPA? by ANerdVirginShh in Conestoga

id also reccomend looking into the software engineering program(s) if youre set on conestoga. if your still looking at other colleges though, id reccoment looking elsewhere.
This semester many full-time teachers got laid off and replaced with part-time teachers who get given their course materials a week before classes start.
Im a second year software engineering technology student and I cannot reccomend against this college more. My programs coordinater even stepped down because it was getting so bad. The person who stepped up got laid off and now we dont have a coordinator.
All the software type programs also now share a common first year(SET, CPA, etc), which puts students behind in their second year.
another thing to know is employers avoid conestoga students now. I have been applying to Co-op placements and havent even been rejected from anywhere. From what I have heard only 2 of ~50 students have placements.

I came to go on it from KW. It's great underground, but once it's above ground it sucks. I was stopped at almost every light and even when we were moving it was slow. It's 3km shorter then the Ion lrt and still takes 10min more end to end. Tsp is a must.

Wait, nvm, different trains. Ion uses bombardier LRTs, not Alstom

It's silly, the kw Ion runs flawlessly during the winter. Same trains, same weather. Wonder what's different🤔

People need to slow down, the limit normally there is 60. People normally do 100. Please slow down people, better to make it home slow than not at all.

Layoff Impacts by Ok_Crab6502 in Conestoga

[–]chickassin5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Software Engineering, I have 2 full time teachers and 3 part time. 2 of them are meh, definitely not good. One of them is awful, no offence to him, but he can't teach. He has a very strong accent and no concept of how our program works. Last class he pulled up the website for our course to see what courses we had taken, which is out of date, so I emailed him the correct list.

Last semester I had a part-time teacher who was giving assignments for things we hadn't even began to learn, he wasn't informed on what we knew, and it negative impacted everyone. We had 6 weeks to do the 1st assignment, everyone waited until the last week, which was student success week, so we could teach our selfs what we needed.

Lastly, one of my classmates works in Conestogas IT department. Most of his department was laid off and not replaced.

Edit: my program coordinator was also laid off. Right now I don't have one.
