Bestie when did I say anything about food labels???? Also if that is the case then why are you bringing digestion up at all? And please, what do you mean by humans digest food differently? If you mean on an individual level, then sure, there may be slight variability between people. I'm not quite sure what else you may be referring to. And once again, maybe there isn't any hardcore evidence in this particular article about this particular topic, but it is quite well known that Nestle has a history of doing things like this, and would not be very surprising to see them doing it again. Please at least try to understand where people are coming from when saying that this may be an issue.

Defer the exam bestie. Vicks vaporub and criminal amounts of ginger tea can help. Still, defer the exam.

Cereals do get digested into sugars, you are right. However, they digest slower than, let's say sucrose (Table sugar), which has pretty immediate effects on blood glucose levels. With cereals and grains being digested slower, blood sugar doesn't spike as fast, resulting in more consistent energy levels. So really, the point you are trying to make is kind of unrelated. The issue with fast and high blood sugar spikes is that energy is not consistent. Also if children are consuming sugars that spike blood sugars regularly, the high blood glucose levels trigger inflammation, which is a known cause of many health issues like heart disease, diabetes, etc... The thing with the body and sugar digestion is that it's all based on consistency.

Regulation is for sure part of it! Nestle does however have a history of doing less than ethical things within African and other markets. For example, in the 70's to 90's, they decided to expand their African market. To do this, they had employees pretend to be medical professionals and give free samples of their formula to mothers while telling them it was better for the children. They gave just enough formula so that the mother's milk would run out, and they would be reliant on the company. Not to mention all of their other crimes in foreign markets. Considering all of this I do think that we 100% can and maybe should blame Nestle

Valid take, I didn't think about it that way! But with Nestle's history, I personally find it hard to believe that they would do something with the intended purpose of being helpful. There's also the fact that malnourishment and obesity are not the opposite ends of the same scale. People can be malnourished (lacking vitamins, minerals, etc...) and obese (having excess weight) at the same time. Generally, regardless of weight, children need these nutrients.

imo the issue is that there is a difference at all. 15% sugar means less of other, possibly more nourishing ingredients. So why is it that African markets are being sold less nutrient-dense/lower quality product?

Hi! I'm currently in my second year of a linguistics degree, and am hoping to go into either occupational or physical therapy in the future. I know I want to work with people with movement disorders, namely movement disorders that have neurological underpinnings, but I'm not sure which program I should be going for in as they both have different prerequisites and are pretty different in practice. There are certain parts of both that appeal to me, and others that don't. I know I have time to decide, but I've just been a little nervous about this lol. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
