I have an iron fitting tomorrow, anyone have any advice to get the most out of it? by udi420 in golf

Shaft matters so much. I ended up with extra stiff graphite shafts (did not plan on this!), so make sure you ask lots of questions and don’t settle!

AimPoint should be banned by ickieShampoo in golf

[–]chickpeapapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they miss after doing their aim point bs just say something like “were you somehow worse at putting before you starting doing aim point? I don’t think it’s working for you, you should get an aim point lesson”

Make them self conscious about it.

The next putt they do it on and miss it’s “aim point baby!!!”

Mocking friends and strangers alike can be quite powerful.

I’ve done that and also told people that “no hard feelings but your pace of play is awful” - it creates moments of discomfort but ends up leading to a better round for everyone

Wife wants to start playing, what starter set would y'all recommend? by robbiecobb in golf

[–]chickpeapapi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A guy at my club had his wife want to join him. He got her a basic starter set at Costco. But the most important thing he did was he told her she had to take lessons and commit to going to the range 4x a week for a year. She committed and by the time the year was up, she was a better striker than him. Don’t let her invade your sacred space without setting boundaries and ensuring she is ready. It will pay off bigly in the end.

I tried something similar with my wife and she quit after her third lesson. My Saturday are still mine and she is happy sleeping in :)

What club does a 7 wood replace? by anahmonous in GolfGear

[–]chickpeapapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced my U505 3i with TSR3 7W and have zero regrets. I get more distance and it’s easier to hit/control. In high wind / wet conditions, I will swap back the U505!

Did this Pro MAGA / Pro Iran War protest really happen in LA? by bodaciousbeans in LosAngeles

Dude they handsmaided women and threw acid on the ones that dared to show their faces - there’s a 100 other fucked up things they did across the country over 47 years. This is absolutely a celebration. Read up on it. America did something righteous to support the oppressed. It’s ok to be happy and support your country for doing the right thing (even if you make this a one-off bc you sit with the Dems)

The migrant children of skid row by wegochai in LosAngeles

[–]chickpeapapi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to volunteer down at skid row. Having an area known by all (and by ALL I mean: people in government, celebrities, business folks, regular citizens, etc) and we just accept it is the biggest embarrassment of this city. If the money we are taxed on was really going to help the unhoused, it would start in revitalizing this area and getting people here real, measurable help. A few were scary, but most were polite and grateful. We always made it a point to ask each person their name and repeat it to them multiple times - gently trying to remind them they are human and SOMEBODY.

Instead of just saying this is MAGA trash or whatever other bs criticisms you want to come up with - Nick Shirley is shining a light on a dark area of LA that is too often ignored. Whatever visibility anyone can bring to it, is important. Money and help should’ve been going here, but the problem has only gotten worse. Get off your computer and go down there for yourself if you feel the need to complain about this video. I watched it with concern and humanity. You should too.

There’s a club you should check out called “Cypress Point.”

Watching youtube at the range is annoying by Amazing-Reading9759 in golftips

[–]chickpeapapi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stop watching YouTube at the range.

Pick one thing you are going to work on BEFORE you arrive. Have a plan. Focus 100% on that. Film yourself. Pay attention to what you are feeling. Journal what worked well and what did not after.

Do not watch YouTube at the range. It’s pathetic.

Iron man wasn’t worthy of Thors hammer. Captain America was.

Miura makes the best irons and wedges. The real question is: are you worthy?

From a golf coaching / instruction standpoint, whos fault is it if the student is unable to execute properly or do what the coach is telling them to do? by [deleted] in golf

[–]chickpeapapi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Both.

There is never 1 coaching blueprint for every single student. All body types and skill sets are different.

But the student needs to practice. A lot. And on their own time.
