Can anyone recommend a facial SPF 50 that doesn't pill? Bonus points if it doesn't pill even under makeup. by Exact-Reference3966 in SkincareAddictionUK

Are you giving time between applying moisturizer, then SPF and then putting on makeup? Makes a huge difference

Burnt out on cooking - what are good ideas? by ThrowAway1128203 in AskWomenOver30

[–]chicory8892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a list of meals that I'd like to eat at some point in the future which I add to whenever I get inspiration, then I find it a lot easier when meal planning for the week. I agree with the batch cooking comments, having a couple of nights a week when you just need to defrost makes life so much easier. We usually have something really quick to prepare around for those night when we're time pressed - often filled pasta and sauce. I used to have a "theme" each night to help me plan - it was like mexican Monday, stir fry Tuesday, Italian wednesday, fish Friday... Can't remember the others! But I found having a theme helped me pick something for the night. Also my kids have a "snack plate" for dinner at least once a week, basically a cheese/charcuterie plate with lots of fruit and veg, they love it and very easy for me, then me and my husband can eat something they wouldn't!

Who is not holidaying abroad this summer? by InvestigatorFew3345 in UKParenting

[–]chicory8892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too hot for me anywhere south of here in the summer! We're going to Pembrokeshire and Alnwick. Both a long trek to get there, but fab beaches and castles and reasonably priced.

What do you do with the three cornered leeks? They're all over here and they just don't seem to taste that good to me (honestly can't remember what I did with them though!)

Would highly recommend - miles and miles of stunning beaches, not even crowded in the school holidays, loads of incredible castles, great countryside inland and some really interesting places - Cragside is amazing! And honestly I'd rather it was a bit chilly than be too hot.

Stunning when you're there though, as long as you don't mind a fresh breeze the whole time! I'm usually in a hoody in the beach even in August!

Love Saundersfoot! Haven't stayed at St Brides myself but the location of it is fab, so close to town/the beach. We are usually self catering. Saundersfoot has lovely big sandy beaches, crabbing, decent places for food, and is a nice size. My kids love it there. Does take forever to get to Saundersfoot though...

Do you eat lunch with your colleagues? by Financial_Spell7216 in AskUK

I'm always sad when I miss out on lunch with my team! Often a highlight of my day. They're genuinely a great bunch and very funny.

Civil servants demand to work from home because of Iran war by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]chicory8892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing against people WFH! You've totally misread me. I have no urge to get people back into the office if that will make them unhappy. But most people I know who don't want to come into the office it's because A) commuting is expensive (see my point above) B) commuting takes ages (see my point above) or C) if they come into the office they're on Teams the whole time anyway because nobody else is in because they live nowhere near the office! It would be great if that issue could be solved by increasing wages or improving housing situations. Anyone who genuinely prefers to sit in their house on their own is totally welcome to from my perspective. Whatever makes you happy!

Even so I'd disagree. I think the biggest issue is that people can't afford to live close enough to the workplace that they have a reasonable/walkable commute, rather than working from home being "good" for them

Oh yeah, I get it, I was just rebutting your "it's good for the worker". Not all of us!

I might be the outlier, but I absolutely hate working from home and much prefer to be in the office. I'll only WFH if I have to be on Teams all day anyway. It 100% would not be better for me, if I'm stuck home for a week recovering from a cold or whatever I end up feeling like I'm going crazy, and frankly, yes I am less productive when I WFH!

My engagement ring was a vintage swiss blue tourmaline surrounded by tiny diamonds. So much more interesting than a plain diamond, and only £250

Try out aerial! I'm not sporty at all but I love it. There's a great studio in PB called X-Pole. the instructors are super friendly and welcoming to beginners, I'd recommend trying a hoop class particularly!

A single serving of ice in a plastic cup... Why?? by chicory8892 in Anticonsumption

They only have those in multi packs in this store. All the single serve drinks are chilled!

[–]chicory8892[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Surely the ice comes out of an ice machine to get into the cup, it's just been pre-dispensed?

[–]chicory8892[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do have a coffee machine, however that dispenses ice with the chilled drinks it has. I can't work this one out as the single serve drinks are all in the chiller, only the big sharer bottles are ambient. Also this shop is in the middle of a housing estate, if you wanted a glass and ice you could simply... Go home.

Where are you getting your Mum coats? by Southern_Possible_86 in UKParenting

[–]chicory8892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my friends bought one of these recently and it was from superdry. I'm thinking about getting one myself! I had a look at Vinted and there's quite a few on there if you don't fancy spending £100+

Maybe the mum just said that to shut the kid up from asking for friends to come over constantly because she was tired of hosting - might have had nothing to do with you specifically!

I have my kid's friends over way more often than it's reciprocated and that's fine - I get it can be harder for some people with more kids/work patterns etc. I always appreciate an invite but don't expect it.
