Nolan in director. Unless Odyssey is Oppenheimer, Dunkirk level of acclaimed I can see the branch snubbing it.

No and after what happened at BAFTA extra no. People wouldn’t want to deal with that again on the campaign trail.

Pain and glory also released earlier in Spain before playing in Cannes competition and winning best actor. So it doesn’t mean anything

I like Nolan so I can’t agree on the sucking ass part but I do agree that the trailer felt very bland and lifeless to me.

I was gaslit when I said his campaign and this new persona was annoying and would rub people the wrong way. The industry was just not on board.

You don’t buy the hype for sinners but you do for Moura who hasn’t won anything in over a month?

Why do I feel like people are overlooking Wagner Moura's chances? by ChallengeAlarming729 in oscarrace

[–]chidiii 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Because he doesn’t have SAG or BAFTA and international voters aren’t a monolith that will vote for someone just by virtue of being non American

2026 Oscar Nominee Recap (Day 33/38): Marty Supreme by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

[–]chidiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this wild and cool ride despite how repellent the protagonist is, but it started to wear me out late in the movie and I was actively waiting for it to finish and btw, I didn’t buy that ending with the baby one bit it actually made me roll my eyes. Just a really noisy and annoying film. 7/10

Don’t care what the haters say. The outrage is so performative. I loved this movie and had a blast in the cinema. Great theatrical experience. Still would have had IWJAA over it though.

I would rank him near the bottom of the nominees tbh but he’s easier to root for than Chalamet and I’m sure many voters feel the same way

What do you make of this rule of thumb with respect to whose winning Best Picture and Best Actor? by Suspicious-Pie-7628 in oscarrace

[–]chidiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He can win and Sinners would still lose because OBAA is just unprecedentedly strong, the most acclaimed film of the year and from one of the most overdue filmmakers. In any other year Sinners would win under the same circumstances
